Transfer Rumblings

@benshawks08 also Hunter gobbling up 30+. And Bill wanted to keep both
-
@benshawks08 I think Bill in his favoritism will try KJ at the 4. It won’t work and he will become the backup 5. It will drive us crazy because the best scoring lineup will be with shooters around Hunter and Juan with kj as 6th man energy change of pace guy
Bill’s gonna try to fit a square peg into a round hole to start the season to keep everyone happy
-
@kuballin10 it will all work out especially if we get Nelson and the rumors are true that he’s ineligible until spring semester. KJ gets his run, it goes over like a lead balloon, then Nelson comes in to save the season.
-
KJ was in the game at the end of the 2022 natty as a freshman. Pretty sure he’s going to be on the floor a LOT and in crunch time every time over literally any newbie including Dickenson if he can’t set a screen on an inbounds play.

I can almost promise you that Hunter will not be coming off the bench for KJ - with what heard on the NIL, they not shelling that out for a back up player , with what he has accomplished. I really like KJ , BUT Hunter is just so much more of a polished all around player. a player that you can almost bet gonna get you 20 & 9-10 every time out. a guy that can shoot the 3 st retch the floor, score inside - -score outside
just a more polished player. Doesn’t take anything away from KJ - -but KJ just has limitation’s KJ is not a good rebounder , KJ has no outside shot - -which he better be busting his ass developing this summer if they gonna try and have him play some four. Again KU had said thy would not be outbid in the NIL for Huntr, and we don’t know for sure where it ended up but I can bet it was plenty - -and he is not playing a reserve role -that’s just not happening.
-
@FarmerJayhawk where’s the rumors on ineligibility? Figure he takes summer classes and gets eligible
-
@kuballin10 just stuff around that he totally blew the spring since he thought he was going pro. If you don’t pass 6 hours in a semester you can’t play the next one. You can make up stuff for degree progress in summer but not to backfill from a semester where you done messed up.

Udeh didn’t commit to Dook, rumors say he wasn’t guaranteed PT and couldn’t qualify academically. Next visits are KSU and TCU. Which if he wants PT he’ll probably choose between those two. I laughed at the thought of him getting PT @ Dook.
-
@kjayhawks this makes me happy.
-
It was about credits not transferring because Duke is particular about that.

Don’t laugh to hard cause there was multiple , multiple ones that said he would fit right in as the starting 5 and they could move Flip out to the 4 , wasn’t counting on Udeh for a lot od scoring, just some rebounds and rim protection which he was QUITE capable of
-
@jayballer67 I wished he’d comeback for sure but he has to be willing to wait and work. He ain’t going to go start a blue blood right now. He could start at KSU or TCU most likely. Several guys destroyed their careers doing similar things with daddy or agents in their ears telling them they are the next LeBron or MJ. I hope it works out for him but still think he’d be better off staying here.

I would love it if he stayed, would be perfect behind Hunter talk about a sweet combo. The last place I want to see him end up at is K Straight. The last thing I would want is to face a guy that has that extra motivation to give us hell - -especially transfer to inner conference - ANYWHERE but those idiots. They all full of themselves because they had one decent year lol.
-
@jayballer67 he’ll public enemy number 1 at AFH if he goes to KSU. Can Tang make then more than one hit wonder is my question.

you and me both. Tang this past Season had those two key ingredients - - Johnson & Nowell, their gone, like you said will they still be a legit team ? - -Oh they have some quality players all right but he stepped into a good thing with those two - now we find out his real Coaching abilities.- -Good or do the closet fans put their little purple and white stuff back in the closet for another decade before they are relevant again ?
-
So I don’t even know if we are entertaining the idea or not, as Coach said he was happy with his roster. Just curious - May 31st is the decision day right on players to make up their minds as if they are going to stay in the draft or withdraw isn’t that right ?
So IF there were an interest, Nelson has until then to decide if he is staying in the Draft or withdraw ?
I think he would be the ONLY player left we would add now . - kinda think that chance is pretty slim
-
Well just saw Andrew Slater tweet. - -Looks like Alabama has now entered the picture for Udeh. – I think w lost a blooming future stud , he would of been the perfect stick with Hunter share time this year -THEN next year would of been all Udeh - -Think were gonna miss him
-
@jayballer67 But Hunter might be here two years
-
Personally watching Udeh run from adversity makes me really appreciate Isiah Pacheco’s attitude. Day one in training camp he said he was there to take a grown man’s job…and he did. Udeh on the other hand is look for an easy path to playing time as opposed to taking it. Funny thing is there are only 12 people on the world that have a legit chance to play for the Jayhawks, but that wasn’t enough.
Color me disappointed. Udeh is talented, he just needs to refine his craft.
-
I mean he and Zuby essentially got recruited over. These kids are trying to make the NBA. They’ve got to do what’s best for them.

I wouldn’t count on it. I think even Coach realizes it’s a one year rental

This is where I’m at with it and I also think Self made the correct decision. We needed to add a star in the portal and it wasn’t going to be at PG so the 5 spot made sense. Didn’t really see any star level wings in there.
-
While I agree they are trying to make the NBA I wonder what their thoughts on when that’s happening because it’s hard to project for either that’s happening in the next 2-3 years. Their position isn’t something GM’s are wasting Top 20 picks on unless you have some serious intangibles & potential.
Personally I think they left the best situation they will both have going forward but that’s their decision to live with at the end of the day.
-
How can you blame either for leaving. They were essentially going to be limited to 10mpg for the next two years.
I don’t think it makes guys soft. Competitors want to play. It is hard to accept a bench role, I don’t care who you are.
-
I don’t blame them for leaving. I just expect very little of their future given their reaction to the situation.
-
If only there were some evidence transfers could really prosper after leaving their original school
-
@FarmerJayhawk you being funny?
-
Caleb Love to Arizona. So they went from thinking they had Nembhard to Love instead. Oooooof.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 lil bit
-
@BShark whew glad Love is no longer in the air.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Grimes is doing pretty good.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 also Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Will Levis, and Caleb Williams are doing fine

@BShark I do think Love is a talent. Will be interesting to see if someone can tap into it.
-
I know he is 6’11 but would there be any way he could play a 4 ? - - he got range on the floor. - -I just don’t think a guy thats that highly sought after would be willing to come sit behind hunter. Yet if we could land him , get him to player the 4 - you have 7’1 hunter at the 5 - - Nelson at 6’11 at the 4 - - both averaged almost double figure rebounding - -Any chance at ll he could play the 4 ? - -pull out the NI
-
Man im late to the party. Didnt think hed actually come here. Just watched youtube highlights. Kid is smooth!
-
I’m hoping this recruitment moves fast. I assume Nelson’s team has been vetting teams while he was doing the combine stuff.
Love that he got to spend a ton of time with Jalen and Gradey during the draft process.
How this plays out with his academics and NIL stuff will be interesting to watch. I’ve felt like this was the domino left to fall for awhile. KU is such an ideal fit for him imo. Trying to not get my hopes up, but man he is the final piece.

he is not hee yet - although a guy that kind of has inside I think -sys he thinks he believes KU is someone to keep an eye on in this
-
@jayballer67 he’s a 4 for us for sure
-

ok buddy thanks a lot. - So this DOES answer my question to CAN he play the 4 - - -Mercy could you imagine a front line of him and Hunter both- MERCY. - not here yet , hope we can pull it off
-
if nelson was a legit shooter it would be like the grizzlies front court of having Jaren Jackson as the rangy floor spacing 4 who can protect the rim.
-
@rcjhdraft his shot mechanically is good - I think with he, Hunter and Juan - he has better looks versus 1 on 1
-
Not having to lead his team in every single category would help his efficiency IMO
-
@FarmerJayhawk lots of Arkansas talk and UVA as well from trilly Donovan
If Arkansas gets Nelson and Holland their lineup would be loaded
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Pretty sure he is being facetious…we all know quality transfers can really do great! It is just bizarre to claim that they could only do well if they just are willing to wait another year or two.
Not sure their only concern is the NBA, though. Being a starter somewhere gives them huge exposure for eventual play internationally where the game hasn’t devolved to the 1-on-1 isolations now dominating the NBA. Traditional centers have a future overseas.

Arkansas’s plan A is devo Davis and holland
-
@BShark To me if you go to a blue blood, you should expect to be recruited over to an extent. They go after the best players every year, to me its common sense.
