Kev/Jalen Last Home Game

Not surprising with either but basically official now
-
Damn now that hits hard
-
Harris will graduate in May but will be returning to KU. Mentioned 2 more years!
Awesome News!
-
JW is technically a senior with his redshirt year with a broken ankle.
-
Another little tid bit of information about the consistency oh KU . KU has 20 more wins against top 25 teams then any other School in the last Decade.
In the last Decade KU has 80 wins - -Michigan State has 60 - Other Schools of interest Duke & Baylor have 59 - -KU has 21 more wins then Duke - - 29 more wins then Carolina - -& 37 more wins against top 25 Schools then Kentucky in the last Decade - - got to love those numbers

The Baylor media stooges speculated we only were that far ahead because “we won them all at home”. Kind of a Scott Drew whiny bitch extension argument. Now they stand corrected. Hard to deal with that level of ignorance.
-
Both could be back. And I wish they would. I don’t think either is ready. But I also don’t think either is an eventual NBA player. JWil certainly has the best shot. I think though that it will be hard for him to improve his stock much with another season. Also don’t think he loses stock. I hope these guys actually just test the waters to start and see what happens. Both end up in Europe before it’s over imo

what the hell I know dam well we won our share of those on the road - or possibly at the least on neutral floors - - idiots
-
@cragarhawk I think both are out of the league within 3 years tops. Not a chance either one comes back
-
@kjayhawks really? JWil early second round at best. McCullar late second round at best? I guess I don’t follow that line of thinking
-
@cragarhawk They both said they are done at KU after this season. It’s in the tweet linked in the first post.
-
I hear ya. Just doesn’t make me understand it any more than before
-
Really thought Kev would be back. Guess I was wrong.
-
Both can make good coin playing overseas
-
Really haven’t mentally prepared for watching J-Will’s last home game here. Then add in Kev and Gradey, yeah, I’m going to be a mess tonight.
-
@BeddieKU23 I will miss Jalen! It was great watching him go from redshirt to the star player on the team!!! I have much love for anyone that puts that much work and effort into being a Jayhawk!!!
One year players are hard to remember a year or two down the line. I almost forgot about Remmy the other day it took me an hour to figure out who he was at the game. McCullar will be the same way. I’ll forget about him by the end of next year. Gradey…well I still remember Xavier so I’m betting I remember him vaguely in a decade.

Of course if Gradey turns out to be an NBA star, maybe his name will stick in that memory a bit longer
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I remember freshmen better than transfers. Unique name helps.
Who was the big guy (Memphis?) transfer that played with McLemore? He was a nice young man, looked intimidating, had a cup of coffee with the Lakers. Likable as could be, above average player and I can’t remember his name. - one year rentals. I could never be a fan of a team like Kentucky that is mostly comprised of short term players.

Tariq Black.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk thank you. I was coming up with Jeff Graves. They might be the same person in my mind, having a hard time differentiating them.

Gravey Train!
I saw a photo of Black the other day I think, so helped my memory.
I’m with ya, one year players and transfers don’t stick in the brain that long.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I’m going to have to dig thru the old stack of KU team posters to refresh my memory

There was an awesome quote I saw the other day from Embiid regarding Tariq Black. I think I saw it on twitter. I’m not savvy enough to link it here but had to do with Embiid’s first practice and what Black did to him. If nobody can help me find it and link it I’ll try to dig it up, don’t want to botch the quote by going off of memory.
-
@RockkChalkk Black dunked on him so badly that he wanted to redshirt. LOL
-
Probably something more violent but akin to this:
-
@dylans I’m the same way. I do a lot of fun quizzes at sporcle and doing Jayhawk themed quizzes is surprisingly challenging when trying to name starters on even like the 2008 NC team. Here’s a sample quiz. Sporcle is awesome by the way.

-
@wissox I got 94 out of 150. Won’t mention names I missed in case anyone else is going to do it. But there were a whole lot of duh, I should have remembered that one.
-
@approxinfinity This great lol.
I have essentially blocked that entire season out of my mind at this point. Such a hard team to watch. So young. And I will always be sad we never got to see Embiid dominate the tourney like he was destined to.
His 72 blocks as a freshman was the most by a freshman ever in KU history (at least according to Sports-reference) by 10. Eric Chenowith has 62 in 39 games. Embiid did that in 28 games (though roughly the same amount of minutes played).
Just think about how good Embiid was starting to look, that NBA scouts basically accepted he wasn’t going to play for at least one year (if not longer), and he was still the #3 overall pick.
Side note: that 2014 draft was insanely talented.
-
Wiggins (17.1 ppg)
-
Embiid (33 ppg)
-
Parker (he had a reasonably good career, riddled with injuries)
-
Marcus Smart (11ppg)
-
Aaron Gordon (17 ppg)
-
Julius Randle (25 ppg)
-
Nik Stauskas (9 year career)
-
Noah Vonleh (8 seasons in NBA)
-
Elfrid Payton (8 seasons averaging 10 ppg)
-
Doug McDermott (9.8 ppg)
-
Dario Saric (6ppg)
-
TJ Warren (9.5 ppg)
-
Zach LaVine (24.2 ppg)
-
Jusuf Nurkic (13.8 ppg)
-
Gary Harris (8.6 ppg)
-
Rodney Hood (10.4 ppg for career)
-
Clint Capela (12 ppg)
-
Bogdan Bogdanovic (14.6 ppg)
-
Kyler Anderson (8.6 ppg)
-
Joe Harris (8.3 PPG)
-
Spencer Dinwiddie (15.5 ppg)
-
Jerami Grant (20.6 ppg)
-
Nikola Jokic (24.8 PPG)
-
Dwight Powell (6.8 ppg)
-
Jordan Clarkson (20.9 ppg)
25 of the 60 players picked played 7+ years. It’s going to have 3 MVP awards at least (Embiid should be frontrunner this year, but Jokic could threepeat). Just a phenomenal draft class.

Of course, it’s different with players like J-Will. He’s been here 4 years and we’ve seen him grow into an All-American. J-Will will never be forgotten in my book.
Certain 1 year guys are easier to remember then others. I think Kev will be remembered for a while by many, we certainly knew who he was previously from his 3 years at Tech. Personally, I’m going to remember him forever because of how seamless his fit was on this team. I’ve said it over and over but it’s extremely rare that a player could come in for one year and be remembered like he spent his career here and I think Kevin has that opportunity. He continues to impress me.
Remy was a polarizing player and then he did what he did in March. I’ll aways remember what he helped this team do. I’m also going to remember the dynamic he had with Self. 10 years ago, Remy might have never played a minute here with his character, but this version of Self has come a long way to adapting and finding balance. We are truly spoiled.

I remember when J Wil announced he was Transferring from Michigan - -and BAM wasn’t long at all - -here he was, - It has been really cool to watch him grow during his time here at KU
-
It was cool hearing Self admit he messed up on the J-Will recruitment. Jalen wanted to commit, Self cooled, he then committed to Michigan then the stars aligned where it worked out again. We could have lost an All-American to Michigan!
I still remember me and @BShark saying this kid was going to be a stud in College when he was ranked in the 50’sish playing at Denton. It’s crazy seeing how he blew those projections out of the water.
-

Haha yeah thats the one. Except I thought it said it was so bad that he wanted to quit. And was looking at flights back home that night. Pretty wild.

For sure has become a very dynamic player - -Really good College player. Having said that just not sure if he makes it in the NBA. think he is fringe at best. I just think he will be one of so many players that get stuck in D league or something like that. I think he would be better of doing like so many others going over sea’s and making some change there --Really good guy gonna miss him for sure
-
I’m hopeful he does stick in the NBA. I think his competitiveness, his confidence & combination of skills at his size are what appeal to scouts this year that wasn’t so apparent last year. He’s got the mindset of a pro already and that will make a difference, same as it did for Ochai going through his Sr year and draft process. I’m not counting J-Will out that’s for sure.
-
@BeddieKU23 I think his ability to rebound and run should be pretty valuable to some NBA teams that value playing fast/positionless basketball.
-
@BeddieKU23 I hope he breaks out of this slump he’s been in of late and really shines in March for us (and the NBA scouts).
He really did come to highlight what Self’s program here is all about… learning, growth, BB IQ, tough D, team player, multi-year, confidence, leadership, never gives up, encouraging to others, loyal, and has fun. Hard to ask more than that from a player.

Oh I hope he does stick , just not counting on it as we have had several others that I thought would do better. True different positions - -well some anyways, I’m just afraid his outside game is to inconsistent- - good rebounder well in College not sure how that translates in the NBA - -just don’t get the feel where as good as a College player he is, he sticks.- -Lot of other good College players just in the same position as J Wil that like us outsiders thought for sure they would make the NBA -they didn’t stick. - -A Lot of really good players fighting for not so many chances. Is J Will a top 60 player in America?- -you and I might think so - -but were not the one’s who decides lol. If that were the case - EVERY KU player would be a shoo in lol. - I hope he can I really do - -just a really tough market
-
@Kcmatt7 Amazing and it illustrates the short lived lives of pro athletes as well as some are already done
-
Supposedly bring out the reds tonight

Rebound and run. that’s his super power for sure.

Kevin named Naismith National defensive player of the year Semi finalist - -Congrads big boy
-
Jwill has a career in broadcasting after his playing days. Maybe it’ll just be on some FM station slowing things down with some cool jazz, but I think he’ll be in a broadcast role some day.
-
Hopefully Gradey D has a good game tonight. Probably his last game in AFH too.
-
Wouldn’t be senior night without having to watch the end of a Duke game.

LFG. SENIOR NIGHT
