Exactly, did the same thing last year , he got to a point where he wasn’t even looking at the basket - - started to do that again this year. - - GOT TO SHOOT THE DAM THING
-
Coach saying KU wasn’t going to foul on a 3 pt attempt -said they talked during the time out and left it up to the players and they said they wanted to play it out
-
@jayballer67 Thankfully it worked out. We had a couple of games where we wern’t so fortunate.

OOOOps - - -I don’t think I really wanna know what he called him - - can only imagine all kinds of things he could off called him- - - I’m thinking of one quite possible beginning with a P - - we just leave it at that

Self has always preferred to play defense instead of fouling. I believe the analytics actually support that decision by a small margin if I remember a breakdown of that situation from a few years back.
-
Time left on clock. To much to foul.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 why did they go for 2? Think the could foul and get it back?
-
Holy smokes that was way too close for comfort. It was following the exact same pattern as the last game early in the 2nd half. So glad we sucked it up on D late in the game (no comment on KJ’s near fatal foul).
TCU must be a matchup problem for us!
I’m just gonna say it: the sooner that 6-10 POS Dave McCormack leaves campus, the better.
Sorry. Rock Chalk!
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Dave is a good kid. Smart. Good attitude. POS is pretty harsh.
Hes also been injured snd is giving us everything he can.
I welcome change next year but think we are going to struggle.
-
Good to see Yes picked over Remy last night.
3 minutes and another -6 with Remy on the floor.
Dave killed us defensively last night too, but I’m not sure what you can do about it. It is him or Mitch. He constantly abandoned his man when he didn’t need to help and it either led to a layup or an offensive rebound.
Och is going through some regression to the mean clearly.
Need more from CB.
Some things will have to get better for this team to win a game the 2nd weekend. Hopefully rest is the main thing they need. Plenty of that coming after Saturdays game.

Dave’s balance is way off with that sore foot, and it’s affecting his offense as well as defense. He over hedges and can’t get back to his man, which is leaving the paint wide open for easy scores. On offense, he’s missing an incredible amount of shots from 2 feet. These are shots he normally makes, so the foot is throwing him off there as well. If he hits the bunnies, we win by 10+. I’m really thinking we should rest Dave during the B12 tournament, and let Zach and Mitch take the minutes.
-
@Jethro I don’t buy the foot excuse for the bunnies. He just has the yips. He’s making his free throws.
Defensively I would buy it, other than what I am referring to is mostly terrible decisions to help. He is overhelping. Nothing to do with recovery, the primary defender does a great job forcing their man into a tough spot and Dave bails them out by trying to get a blocked shot. Mitch does this a lot too, but Dave did it probably 5 times last night.

@drgnslayr - wasn’t it your wife who used to call the KU Basketball players (a few years ago) pu$$ie$? If so, she was right and she always will be right.
-
@approxinfinity ok, so I was a bit on edge after watching that tight game last night! Maybe POS is harsh, but hurt foot or not, it’s extremely frustrating to watch a guy his size miss more layups than he makes (can I get an amen @Kcmatt7 !!) . No complaints about him as a human or about his effort. But It’s obvious he hasn’t matured much (calmed) near the rim since Day 1. Change will be a good thing.
Anyway, glad we won.

Ha… yes… FORMER wife! lol
-
@approxinfinity could never call a Jayhawk player a pos. Maybe …
-
@Kcmatt7 agree, but I think Och has pressure to put the team on his shoulders, that’s why CB can and should step up! Och is trying to do to much, not letting the game come to him.
-
I think Dave’s foot is impacting his increase in missed bunnies. But I don’t like giving anyone an excuse.
I can be critical on many of Och’s bunny misses, too.
I think we all need to just enforce TOUGHNESS with our guys from here on out!
I think we all agree we are very tough mentally. No one can ever count us out because we don’t panic like so many of our teams used to.
But this is a team that doesn’t like physical contact. NONE of our guys like physical contact! CB and Joe are my picks for being our guys most likely okay with contact. Then… JWil.
Oh man… JWil! My “junkyard dog” for this team. Brother… when you turn the corner on your defender and drive the lane… FINISH! Stop passing the ball out on the trey line. Take the ball INTO contact and draw the foul! Use the backboard to shoot around defender’s reach. Practice more tough finishes in practice so you know how to do it. You are giving up on an extra 10 points a game!
Och… don’t be phased when a shot gets blocked. Keep taking it to the defense. Get your body involved. Use that speed and agility to sometimes create scoring space (from body to body), and other times take it into bodies to draw fouls! You can still use your body between the ball and defender to get shots off.
CB… drive more to the rim! You will get some blocked but you will draw more fouls and score more point on finishes, too.
Dajuan… look for your shot more. Try more pullups in the lane! Finish more at the rim with your quickness!
Guys… get after it! Don’t shy down from physical teams! Use your brain and take advantage of BASKETBALL IQ!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I definitely agree with this to an extent. I like that he is taking it upon himself at times. I am tired of watching CB pass up 3s he should take.
The offense has really been like 3 guys passing the ball around until it gets to Och or Dave and then there is a shot. Formula when we were playing well was everyone was getting shots off.
-
you know Juan catchs alot of crap and I sure am glad he played last night over Remy - just am. In reality for this game without question we would of went down again - especially late. - Guy had a hell of a stat line for someone just sniffing 6 ft and is like a string bean close gets bullied backed down a lot. - Yet last night he gives us 11 pts - - 6 rebounds - - 3 assists - -1 turnover - - 2 steals - -and ONE HUGE BLOCK - - THAT from a 6 ft point is a pretty solid line I don’t care who you are - -Hit that HUGE 3 late if he doesn’t do that then were bacon again to those guys - -APPRECIATE YOU JUAN.
-
@Kcmatt7 did you see post game? CB said he needs to get aggressive earlier! Think we’ve heard that before. Those first way out shots by Och seem to turn into fast break pts for other team. Just a tad to far out, jmo
-
Dave had a hurt foot for awhile, but a few games ago it was reported his knee is tweaked, too. It has clearly affected his jumping in all three phases–opening tip, FGs, and rebs.
The FT percentage is a tribute to his hard work and concentration. Without him picking up fouls, we lose. Instead, we have people using what he does right to justify calling him a POS.
What a fuckfest of unappreciative fans.

Out guys ARE athletic but they aren’t fully utilizing their athleticism. I do think they may have shoes away from it during this last stretch of the big12 because they don’t trust they’ll be protected or even rewarded for putting it all out there physically. To be clear I believe every player is giving it his all to win for the team. But, there’s some mental conditioning that happens when you have actual pain inflicted on you every time you try to do something.
I’ve honestly only caught small bits of the last two games but starting with Texas teams have begun making every movement KU makes on offense result in pain. Make a cut? Here’s a body check. Drive the lane? Meet the floor. Take a dribble? Make a pass? Rake the arms. Go up for a rebound? How’s your insurance? Our guys are grabbing their face, the side of their head and everything else you can think of every couple of minutes because someone has landed a blow. Some of them get called but at this point many don’t. I know folks were complaining about how many fouls were called in a few games but it honestly wasn’t nearly enough. I like others am not even saying the game isn’t being called equally. But unfortunately for us, our more skilled and talented team can be dragged down to a lower level by simply beating them into submission. More power to this team for not actually submitting because it has been a brutal end to this regular season.
Here’s hoping the NCAA tournament is called a little differently than the big 12 has been this year.

@mayjay Hey, i’m the only one calling Dave a POS, and it had nothing to do with what he was doing right!
Got nothing to do with his FT shooting. I think he’s a great shooter from the line. In fact, as i was watching last night, i wondered to myself who i would want on the FT line with the game on the line. Dave was close to the top.
I’m just steamed as i have been for four years now that he can’t make a bunny! nothing’s changed.
So, as i stated earlier, POS was harsh, but doesn’t mean as a fan that i can’t be upset with a player for being nearly 7 foot and constantly missing layups. i’m for sure not gonna smile when he does that.
So, apologies for upsetting the board with my language. i know this is a kinder, gentler board.
-
I get you being upset. I go nuts, too, when we miss all those bunnies… especially from wide-body Dave!
I feel for Dave. He’s an athlete who is trapped with a mind that can’t stop thinking. We’ve only seen brief moments of Dave cut loose from his inner self.
Self has discussed this before about Dave. He’s one of the coolest dudes we’ve ever had in Lawrence! We’ve never had a Jayhawk care more about his team than Dave… even our Jayhawks who were born in Kansas.
He just can’t hang up the mind and go out there and let his body carry the load. That shows up, big time, when he gets close to the basket and throws up a brick. He tightens up and his mind is working overtime saying… “don’t blow this!”
It really is tragic. He’ll never be happy with his contribution to this team either. Because he cares SO MUCH!
-
@drgnslayr Whoops.
-
@drgnslayr its really hard to tell what Dave could be if he was injury free. I think without the injuries he might be a decent pro. Very hard to perform consistently with injuries. Im not ready to judge his future yet. Only his injured present.
