He’s the guy we really have to thank!

If you told me our best lineup this year would be with him at the 5 I would have laughed you out of the building.
-
Wilson is an exciting player so far. Always thought he was this good but its nice to see it in action. Would like to see more consistency on his jumper and at the FT line because he’s got a good shooting stroke. What has surprised me is his motor and willingness to fight in the paint.

Stark difference. That bogus 4th foul on him almost changed the outcome against UK.
-
@BeddieKU23 so far, let’s see how he plays out. Hustle is everything
-
2nd half was full of bogus calls. Was not a well officiated game
-
It’s easy to praise players who show max hustle and effort. Jalen’s had no issues so far there and has fueled his surprisingly good start
-
The guy is a player, period. As I see it, we have a roster that is filled with guys who bleed crimson and blue and who have heart and want to win while having a feel for the game, save for McCormack (not ready to give up on Enurana just yet, and haven’t seen Jossell).
-
@BeddieKU23 It wasn’t a well-played game, either. I think sloppy play makes for difficult reffing.
-
I can agree that it was a sloppy game. However Self got T’d for saying “are you kidding me” in response to a poorly called foul on Marcus who picked the Kentucky player clean.
-
@BeddieKU23 I am not defending particular calls, only noting that sloppy play requires more intense attention and as in everything else, exhaustion can increase mistakes.
-
Did not see a 16/9 average through 6 games coming. And his two best games were against stronger teams.
-
Thanks John Beilein! Thank you for leaving College Basketball

Thanks RJ Hampton as well.
Funny thing is KU could have prioritized Jalen from the start, but the staff was chasing Hurt.
-
Yes RJ as well.
Funny how things work out. Hurt isn’t anywhere close to the player I thought he would be in College.
-
@BeddieKU23 He probably would have been OAD here. No one keeps 5*s around like K.

ya that’s the good thing. Thing s he is doing this against strong competition. I for one thought he would be ok, and see time BUT having said that he has even surprised me - -been really good… - but can’t slack against the lesser knowns & I actually don’t believe he will.
Oachi is the one that frustrates me , he has this vanishing act, there are times you wouldn’t even know that he is in the game/on the floor. We NEED this guy he has to step up. - He has a sweet stroke , his ball handling is weak though a turnover waiting to happen when he is handling the ball. - -Zero points last night in a big game - - we need EVEYBODY during these times - really frustrating
-
@BeddieKU23 I don’t want no stinking brotherhood wannabe!
-
Really good piece from CJ on Jalen. Dude is a beast. https://theathletic.com/2298725/2021/01/04/the-remarkable-transformation-of-jalen-wilson-to-rising-star-at-kansas/?source=dailyemail

Not sure we’d have two wins without him being a transformed player
-
Kind of thinking it would have been something to see Jalen play with Perry Ellis. Neither guy is an athletic freak. But Jalen’s style works so much better. He understands that he has to create scoring space. Thinking Perry could have picked up a lot from Jalen.
Something not mentioned yet… I bet Jalen has big hands! He sure plays like it.
-
@drgnslayr Jalen LOOKS more athletic than perry ever did but I keep expecting him to rise up and dunk on one of those drives and it just doesn’t happen. He seems faster and to have more of a burst to blow by people where as perry would just drop em in the blender.
-
I’d like to see which one can jump highest. Part of Perry’s issue was his timidness and lack of commitment to his moves. Jalen has a lot more self-confidence. He doesn’t care if he gets rejected 10 times in a row under the basket… he’ll just keep bringing it!
Jalen may be more athletic… he definitely helped himself to better condition with his one year off. I just don’t see that as being the real factor here as much as his personality to scrap like hell!
-
@drgnslayr I agree the mentalities are totally different. Perry was a perfectionist where as Jalen plays as free as any player we’ve had.
