In this thread we Stan Jalen Wilson

  • Kind of thinking it would have been something to see Jalen play with Perry Ellis. Neither guy is an athletic freak. But Jalen’s style works so much better. He understands that he has to create scoring space. Thinking Perry could have picked up a lot from Jalen.

Something not mentioned yet… I bet Jalen has big hands! He sure plays like it.

  • @drgnslayr Jalen LOOKS more athletic than perry ever did but I keep expecting him to rise up and dunk on one of those drives and it just doesn’t happen. He seems faster and to have more of a burst to blow by people where as perry would just drop em in the blender.

  • @benshawks08

I’d like to see which one can jump highest. Part of Perry’s issue was his timidness and lack of commitment to his moves. Jalen has a lot more self-confidence. He doesn’t care if he gets rejected 10 times in a row under the basket… he’ll just keep bringing it!

Jalen may be more athletic… he definitely helped himself to better condition with his one year off. I just don’t see that as being the real factor here as much as his personality to scrap like hell!

  • @drgnslayr I agree the mentalities are totally different. Perry was a perfectionist where as Jalen plays as free as any player we’ve had.

  • Sounds like the view from the staff is that he has been scouted. Obviously he needs to improve and adjust.

  • @BShark There is definitely a wall here.

I think it is sort of a culmination of things.

First - Bill has gone back to making sure Mitch or Dave are in the game at the 5 for a full 40 minutes. Which suuuuucks. But that also means Wilson is being guarded by a better matchup AND he isn’t able to drive without the C helping off of Mitch/Dave to block his shot. So instead of passing out of it, he is going for the high off the backboard layup and he hasn’t adjusted. Bill killed the five guard, but I’m not sure he realized the effect it may have on Jalen.

Second - he is not getting to the line. He is throwing up wild layups instead of looking for contact. He’s only taken 3 free throws the last 103 minutes he’s been on the floor. He took 20 free throws the 100 minutes prior to that resulting in nearly 1/3 of his points during that stretch. And on the season about 20% of his points have come from the line. He needs to find a way to get to the charity stripe.

Third - if he isn’t making threes (and it really looks like the scouting report says to leave him open) then all he can do is drive to his right and to the right side of the basket. It really is an easy scout. So the staff isn’t wrong there…

At this point you have to decide if it is fixable this season or not. Of course if he was hitting threes we probably wouldn’t even be saying anything. If he can finish out the rest of the season shooting .400 from 3, that changes everything for him. But currently he is frustrated and literally looked like he may have never played basketball before at times last night. The airball floater was the boiling point last night. So if he can’t get over this slump, maybe it is time to play someone else 20 mpg instead of Jalen. Maybe Jalen should be taken off the starting rotation. I don’t know what the answer is. I just hope his confidence isn’t completely shook because he could get hot and maybe help this team to a sweet 16.

  • Wilson and Braun, come off the bench and provide a spark if possible. Starting isn’t working for them. It’s time for Self to buckle down on non-performers. That’s how he got Newman’s magical March…

  • Jalen can’t hit his 3 either. He’s so consumed w/his O he’s lost his other assets, mostly rebounding, put backs.

  • @Kcmatt7 body language looked bad. Self knows, he’ll help him. Howard’s job too

  • Jalen, 32% from 3 in conference play.

    Tyon- 0-9

    Tristan- 2-9

    Jalen- 12-37

    Marcus- 6-18

    Christian- 16-45

    Ochai- 26-67

Besides Ochai, nobody can shoot, consistently

  • @BeddieKU23 jalens last 3 games?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

    2-8 from 3.

    5.6 ppg, 3 reb, 35% fg, 25% 3pt fg, 2 TO’s,

His body language out there tells a story we don’t like to see.

Throw in Christian too since he has the same issues going on.

    Since Jan 1st

    7ppg, 4 reb, 36% fg, 33% 3 pt fg,

  • I think I’d start TGF at the 4 tomorrow. Seems like he’s earned it. TN can’t throw it in the ocean, so his lack of shooting won’t be as big an issue.

  • I’m guessing Braun doesn’t have a confidence problem, but Wilson looks broke.

David McCormack: 1-1 = 100%; Clearly he needs to shoot more threes.

  • He said yellow light 👀

  • One thing that I do know? Someone on this team needs to start scoring.

    Jalen Wilson: Point Forward

    Stong game today

  • Really Glad to see Jalen come out of his slump a player we need for sure. - - 4th straight game with a Double Double . - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • His aggressiveness on the glass is a good indicator for him. This last stretch has been great with how he’s scored, but I’ve loved how much he has helped to rebound.

  • I don’t think we’re going to have JW for four years, three at best but he will probably leave after next season.

  • Well done Jalen my man , Jalen got named Big 12 New Comer of the week for his outings - -Hell Ya - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Marco

I think a combine could keep him around longer then we think. Athletically he won’t go higher then 2nd round. He’s going to have to become super skilled and consistent from the perimeter to even have a chance. But as a freshman hes making a huge impact and that usually bodes well for their future

you know and you might of just kin of hinted at it , I’m not really sure Jalen is a Pro. - -Might fall in that area where like a tweener, can be a very solid College player but just not quite enough for pro. not really sure if he IS athletic enough , don’t get me wrong you know not even really sure if he is that great vertically/hops , but just a kid that has a nose for the ball on rebounds. Have we actually see him REALLY get up for rebounds or just ehhh, Just the right place right time, a someone who can work and get good position. His J like you say I think even to have a shot needs more consistency in the pro - really like Jalen at the College level but got reservations on a Pro level. - -A Lot of kids fall in this area Really good College but just not quite good enough to be drafted

  • This post is deleted!

  • Not to bag on Jalen but that turnover in OT certainly cost KU a chance to win. You could see he was upset with himself afterword’s.

  • Rough beat, but still one of our best players.

  • Jalen isn’t the reason we lost. But he could have been the reason we won…

Yep he is. Just sucks that play looked routine and then…

  • Yeah I mean there was a long stretch in the second half where we flat sucked and Jalen was the only reason we hung around.

  • Dave makes a gimme dunk and the front end of a one and one and it’s moot. We wouldn’t be in the game period without Jalen playing legit minutes at the 5
