2021 Transfer Talk/List

I too am wondering/thinking with these transfers - - - -DOES Marcus return after all for the year? – Could happen
-
Are we anticipating losing scholarships as part of a potential punishment?
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich Not that I’m aware of. I think Bishop still comes. And I think they will find another high scoring guard to add to the team.

I just think this probably enhances the possibility of Bishop coming. , I don’t think there is a snowballs chance in hell we get TY TY though- -were still gonna be fine. -One thing for sure though is were going to have almost a whole new roster , if per chance either Ochai OR Jalen decides to ty and make the NBA work - - which neither one is close but IF they do then we up to 4 more Scholi’s
-
@Kcmatt7 Hope so. Sad to see Bryce go, I think he had a lot of potential. But ultimately he needs to do what’s best for him.
-

So we now have 3 scholarships open and that doesn’t change if Garrett returns or not.
I mean technically four but I think Jalen will return.

Yeah I’m torn because I thought he had potential but honestly he sucked.
Wonder who we end up getting…
-
Just for my own brain:
- Yesfufu
- Harris
- Dave
- Ochai
- Braun
- Jalen
- Clemence
- Curry
- Adams
- Martin
- Pettiford
So 2 spots left unless you really believe Ochai is gone. Then you have 3.

I mean his numbers were horrific, there’s no getting around that. It’s hard to know how much those numbers were affected by a very not normal offseason and a midseason injury. He just needs to go somewhere where he can play a lot and work through his mistakes. Hopefully somewhere not in the B12 conference.
-
Was just reading Chasens article off TOS - - says KU has 6 new incoming so far for next Season plus these TWO open Scholi’s - - like I was saying whole new Roster. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
They really need to get the Marcus Garrett issue straightened out soon. Because they need to know if they can offer dudes a starting spot or not.
Right now between him and Ochai it is hard to find anything besides a bench piece. We got a high-end PG on the market because we had that spot available.
Same goes for that 2 and 3 spot. Bill needs to be able to show a clear path to PT or we aren’t getting anyone.

Sounds like it very easily could end up being Tulsa where he lands

With all these guys leaving - - new guys coming in - - Think this off Season work uts conditioning - - players getting tgether is going to be very important , probably one of the most important times in Coach Selfs time here. Players getting accquainted with one another as a team together.
I mean sure they know one another BUT as a team together here at KU – lots of new kids get that chemistry with one another - - we could Easily end up with EIGHT new players on this upcoming roster, practices once they open next fall is going to be very important getting these kids to fit in the right places learning the system.
I think we still have a pretty good chance to be a very good team - think we for sure will have more athletic team, this year it’s going to be even more important for Mitch - -Christian to step up show some leadership as returnee’s from this team help the others out any way they can. - -One thing these newbies is going to experience something they have not experienced before & that’s Coach Self’s Boot Camp - - in for a real treat lol
-
Devin Askew to Texas
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich will he crack their rotation? lol
-
I have no idea. His numbers were bad last season. He’ll have to improve a lot.
-
Yeah, weird take for Texas IMO.
-
Okie Lite for Bryce.
-
@FarmerJayhawk I’ve seen nothing but Tulsa?
-
Charlie Moore in the portal
-
What a waste of recruiting efforts to see a kid leave after a yr. College Basketball is dead
-
We need to replace Snacks pretty badly. It was a bigger loss than people realize.
-
@Kcmatt7 its going to be hard to keep 13 good players on the roster. its just impossible to offer opportunity to that many players unless half of them are seniors. There is really not a big need to fill up 13 scholarships because a few of them will end up leaving anyway. it always amazes me how many recruits will continue to sign on with programs that dont really offer much opportunity and its crystal clear. The kid’s hearts are bigger than their brains.
-
@BShark patience
-
@FarmerJayhawk yeah just concerned about next year.
-
@BShark I feel pretty good about replacing Howard…
-
I don’t feel good about anything!

Sounds like Self wants to go the young recruiter route. Definitely what we need.

How will we replace Bryce with his 22% three point shooting and hugely negative bpm???
-
It feels like chaos - but there is a chance KU returns it’s entire starting rotation lol.
-
People are worried and all I can think is we are returning the 3 best players from a top 15 team (Och, Jalen and Dave) and adding Yesufu, Pettiford and post depth.
And that is at a minimum.
I think we will be much improved.
All we talked about all year was needing a guy who can get to the basket. Check.
Post depth. Addressed.
About the only thing missing is adding shooters, but something tells me our 3pt woes can improve pretty drastically in house once you add a real PG to the rotation for 40 minutes and subtract Garrett (God please).
People think our shooting was bad - but it wasn’t REALLY the starters. A good chunk of our woes were from a complete lack of offensive fire power off the bench.
- Enaruna - .245
- Bryce - .222
- TFG - .130
Dajaun only took one three per 40 minutes on the floor so he wasn’t exactly coming in to be the spark on offense.
-
I think Ochai returning would be a miracle/surprise but who knows at this point.
-
@BShark Yea I know that post was basically goodbye, but until I see us sign one of these 15+ ppg guys I don’t know that I’ll believe he is gone.
-

Advanced stats are not great but…
-
-
@BShark Definitely better with less volume the season before… Idk I wouldn’t be pissed but I’m not going to jump out of my chair if we get him.

Indeed. There is a ton of talent in the portal, that’s for sure.
-
@BShark I think what sticks out about Bryce Hamilton though is those rebound and assist numbers. Willing passer, willing rebounder. Even if he appears to be the only thing that UNLV squad really had.
-
We cannot always assume that a kid leaving KU is leaving because they:
- weren’t good enough
- didn’t work hard
- were soft
- had some behind the scenes problem
Many of these guys can play, and end up having good careers elsewhere. Many end up playing a similar role that they could have played at KU, but were never given the opportunity. Some get bigger roles elsewhere.
Stepping back from athletics for a moment, college is about finding the opportunities that are going to take you into adulthood in the best possible position. That’s how I approached college. It’s about finding out what you want to do and putting yourself in the best position for a future career.
For “student-athletes” its the same. They have to put themselves in the best possible position for their future career, as well as for themselves. I had a friend (non-athlete) that went to a certain school (not KU). After their freshman year, the school re-vamped the department they were majoring in. After the fall of their sophomore year, they transferred. They felt like the restructured department wasn’t going to be good for them, so they left.
Another friend attended a different school, knowing full well that they intended to transfer after their sophomore year. They wanted to go close to home to get some Gen Ed credit (and save some money) before pursuing the school they really wanted to graduate from.
In both cases, those students made decisions that were best for them, and I’m not sure anyone should hold that against them. So why do we treat athletes differently? Bryce Thompson has a shot at being a fringe NBA player. If his career continues on the trajectory it had at KU, that possibility gets less and less likely. Tyon Grant Foster should be a contributor for an NCAA tournament team, or a star for a fringe bubble team. He barely played at KU, even though KU sorely needed a player like him (athletic guy that could defend multiple positions). I wouldn’t be surprised if both Thompson and Grant-Foster have big years next season in a new uniform - seasons they likely would not have been able to have staying in crimson and blue.

Not really excited about that either. That team couldn’t shoot
-
@BeddieKU23 I’m just pointing out that there will be familiar faces… I already told @BShark privately that if we start the same 5 I’m not watching lol.
Won’t do that to myself again.
-
@justanotherfan I’d be shocked with TGF, but I get your point.
-
Yea I don’t begrudge players for transferring at all. You get 4 years. Make the best of them.
-
I don’t expect we will see the same 5 with whats going on but yeah the possibility is still there. I’m just not that thrilled right now and hope Bill figures it out.
-
-
Texas picks up a pair of big transfers- Devin Askew of Kentucky and Timmy Allen of Utah. Allen avg 17 ppg last year. Also, Andrew Jones will return for his 6th year at Texas. Wow. Jase Febres who was injured for most of the year will also return. Texas has a salty backcourt again
Micah Peavy trades Texas teams leaving Tech for TCU. That makes 5 transfers for Dixon now.
Athletic big Tyreek Smith leaving Tech. Always liked this one’s upside.
-
Wouldn’t that just be a kick in the you know what, Texas has expressed interest in Eastern Washington Tanner & Jacob Groves. Beard is starting to piss me off
-
Beard is loading up on transfers I see.
-

Now he’s after frontcourt help if Brown and Sims leave
-
KSU looking to add a post player that shot 34% from the floor.
