Love to Silvio. Hopefully it’s a temporary hiatus and we see him back in crimson and blue.
-
Dam , Dam , Dam. - I’ll bet you that’s the last we see from him

Interesting word choices.

That makes it sound pretty final.

Self runs guys off with class. LOL

Reads this way for sure.
I think he was likely near the end of the bench. Maybe Gethro actually gets a small amount of tick now. This really makes it so that Mitch is clear cut the back-up 5 and should get most of those minutes.
-
Wow. Smh.
Has Self ever got less out of a player here while having to deal with the consequences of him going here. I can’t think of one
-
I’m sad!
-
@BeddieKU23 Brennan Green and his dick move are close

WORTH.
ROCK CHALK FOREVER SILVIO.
I will never forget.
-
@approxinfinity He definitely helped that day! We all were so high on his potential at that point too.
-
Yep some very memorable moments that year for him. It sucks that’s all we got from him. Hope for the best
-
Silvio’s been through a lot in his 2.5 years at KU. The hoops he had to go through to get eligible midseason, all the shit with the NCAA the following year, the KSU incident last season.
Self said Silvio hadn’t been himself during workouts so I’m guessing everything Silvio’s been through the past 2.5 years has just worn him down and a change of scenery and a fresh start somewhere else probably is what Silvio needs personally.

Billy Preston. There’s one. At least Silvio had one shining moment before all the not shining ones.
-
@BigBad you know something?
-
Silvio will go down as the most damaging ku recruit ever. He was the center of the recruiting scandal that got us in to the mess. At least in Prestons case there was no evidence that we directly knew, he never played a game, and we self reported him. Silvio played and led to this whole turmoil. He was over rated. Barley could jump and had no offensive game. Add in the fact he was the main ku player in the fight with KSU. He’s made this university look bad and damaged basketball recruiting. I’m glad he’s gone!

BIG YIKES

@jayhawks2010 I got a bridge to sell you if you think KU was in the dark about Billy Preston. He was only suspended and self reported because the car accident that led to he departure would’ve blown up had KU not reported Preston at that point.

Yuuuuup. KU only got into that mess because Sean Miller went Leeeeeroy Jeeeeeenkins to get Ayton. We get Ayton and we don’t sniff the Preston circus.
-
Obviously we knew about Preston. Every major program in recruiting with their connections to apparel companies is doing similar stuff…Silvio is the one that really added a lot of fire to the investigation and put us in this position

Which to be fair, Silvio himself had nothing to do with.
-
KU knows about every recruit lol.

I hope this student athlete got a degree or is close to that. He’s been here since 2017. That’d be the only thing that makes his coming here worth it. He’s a part of the biggest team scandal in history. He helped us get to the FF which is nice, but as a result, we’ll get that stripped from the record and even if it doesn’t get stripped, we got there and were thoroughly embarrassed by Villanova.
Fans like to post they’re embarrassed when a team is performing poorly. I sometimes will gently chide them because they shouldn’t be embarrassed, no one is going to point fingers at them and snicker! Then the fight last year, one of the worst moments I’ve had as a KU fan. THAT was embarrassing. It brought national shame on our program. Adding to the cloud of the coming sanctions and it was just too much. In my mind Silvio went from being the semi innocent victim in the adidas thing to being someone who made us look like Georgetown of the '80s.
Of course maybe if we knew the rest of the story I’d be a little less harsh. But we’re left to speculate what prompted this latest drama.

Sorry to say but as some others I know , just kind of makes you wonder if he might have got himself into further trouble somewhere along the line. - Bill and him sit down and came to the mutual agreement that maube it was time to start fresh elsewhere , hope I’m wrong - -just don’t lmpw

@wissox Silvio
-
We can’t all be perfect, and we can’t walk in a persons shoes, I’ve tried to understand that many a time. Silvio has been a gentlemen here for so long, considering what happened to him, that HE had nothing to do with! He’s a Christian young man too. For a very quick few secs he picked up a stool, when he had several ksu guys coming at him. But then he dropped it. Now we are gonna judge his whole time at KU for those few secs when the ncaa sat him on the bench and he graciously took that? He played his butt off to get us to a final 4, he filled in for Doke and got us a big 12 tourney win, that is always a tough win for us. If the stool embarrassed any of us (just fans) think how it felt to Silvio? I have always liked Silvio, I hope something positive works out for him. He’s so far from family too.
-
@wissox Silvio himself was never the problem, he’s merely a symptom of the issue of recruiting of African prospects and the corruption and exploitation of those kids during recruitment by their guardians who could care less about the NCAA.
-
He was attacked and briefly picked up a stool. It was a defensive and human reaction. Some of the reactions I am seeing to this especially on twitter are pretty awful.
He was completely innocent in regards to the Adidas thing. He probably didn’t a dime of that money. It’s how the system works because the idea of the bogus system currently in place doesn’t work. Players have value and someone is going to get it.
-
You all make valid points, but this is a 3rd negative associated with him. Sure, he might not have known about the Glassner money, but he might have.
I don’t give him a pass on the fight. He could have blocked the shot and walked away, but he didn’t. Instead he decided to go and hover over the kid on the ground.
Now he ‘quits’ on the team that could use him. Obviously we don’t know the latest story so i use quits cautiously. Some people it seems attract trouble/controversy/difficulty and it appears he’s one of them.
That’s my story, I’m sticking to it!
-
@wissox fair. We can agree to disagree. Your logic makes sense, just different conclusions. As for how much our team can use him I’m assuming he has slipped down the pine.
-
We definitely don’t know that he quit. More will leak out in time about that.
-
@FarmerJayhawk He’s done. I’m not piling on and wish him well, but he has issues.
-
This post is deleted!
-
@approxinfinity He performed well for a short stretch, but he has also cost us - no pun intended - plenty.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Come on… You don’t really believe that, do you?
-
@wissox he isn’t going to get a degree. And he has been there damn near 4 years.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Come on… You don’t really believe that, do you?
His guardian always maintained he kept Silvio in the dark around all his shady stuff. As @BShark eluded to, this is how it’s done with a lot of international kids.
-
@Marco This semester would’ve been his 6th semester of college, still would’ve been a semester short if on a non accelerated degree plan.
-
I still think we need to learn some lessons about recruiting some of these players. It seems like the more we have to go through to get them here the less we get out of them. Now we have to deal with long term damage.
-
After last year with Silvio, I could sense he wasn’t going to pan out.
-
If barely taking down a team of 8 McDonald’s All Americans with a 200 level recruit as your assassin senior PG, two highly touted international guys that developed into 4 year talent, a 5 star transfer who fizzled at Miss St and wanted a do-over, an all defensive guy with a funky jumpshot, and a guy who only finished half his high school senior year before getting the call is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.
This game was only second to our championship in 2008. Tell me how we win that game without Silvio? Tell me how much damage was avoided by Grayson Allen’s stupid psycho face not having the satisfaction?
NOT TODAY, Duke! I felt proud for a month after that game. NOT TODAY!
-
I like Silvio and I defended him his entire time here. But I’m willing to bet we will be better off with his departure. Our best chances of going far exists when we limit distractions. Silvio, whether it was his fault or not, brought distraction. This also helps clear up our post play time as well as the concept of trying to run two bigs at a time. We’ve got plenty of height, perhaps could use another beef guy, but I’d rather have speed than beef to go with height.
We have a few unknowns with this team, but so far, I’m liking our potential.
-
Agree with a lot of this post in terms of distraction.
This is a hit to depth though unless Mitch and the freshman can hold their own. This team gets small if Dave is on the bench. There will be teams that can exploit that. I hope Dave is up for the Challenge because he’s about to become as important to the frontcourt as Azubuike was at times last year.

Exactly. Silvio wasn’t likely to get a ton of minutes but now Gethro might have to play some.

A 3rd big whether KU plays a 4-1 all the time still has value. In a non-normal season like we have this year with the threat of Covid added, having that extra depth can really be advantageous. This definitely cements the 4-1 offense if it wasn’t already and places even more importance on Dave staying out of foul trouble and being healthy (Covid or Injury). It’s a good thing KU has plenty of 6’8 types to throw out there.
This years team really feels like a passing of the guard, as far as normal roster construction we expect under Self and the scheme they are likely to run all year.
-
Better to just force Bill to run 4 guards than him putting it in midseason. Build that chemistry.
FF year that is how it was. Let the threes fly baby.
-
@BeddieKU23 it does. Though less Herculean than what Devon was asked to do. At least we have a smart and versatile upperclassman at PG. (no knock on Devon. I thought what he did in two years was the greatest work by any true 2 year player under Self)
-
@BeddieKU23 Completely agree. Better to have Silvio even as the third big than not. I can understand why he would want to leave, or if he was forced out etc I’m not sure why I said might tbh, Gethro is going to play now. Couldn’t tell you win it will be but you aren’t going the whole season only playing Dave and Mitch. I guess maybe Tristan could do spot duty again? Oh god please no.
@Kcmatt7 I think that was 100% locked in with or without Silvio. Though now it will be 100% of the time no doubt.
-
We’ve got length, just not super length (like Doke)… what we maybe could use is some girth. I’m not so sure that will be a big factor except with maybe a handful of teams all year.
I’m pretty happy if we can go guard the trey line!
Sometimes it is hard to see the glass half full. We can fret over not having girth and the possibility that will challenge us down low. What do you think the teams with girth will worry about when playing us? We’ll have height and some quickness out on the perimeter. Many were bagging on David last year for not being able to guard the trey, remember?
Let’s just hope we can nail a decent % from trey this year. This would be a great year to have proficiency with the long ball!
