Preseason Predictions
-
Best player: Bryce Thompson
Most important player: Marcus Garrett
Better than people expect: Dajuan Harris
Most improved: David McCormack
-
@BShark hope you’re right about big dave
-
@BShark So you think that Bryce will be our number one scorer?

Very possible. Extremely gifted offensive player.
David will be in contention too I think.
-
Wow, this is a depressing post to see those names as our key performers after the huge disappointment of not being able to play for the title last year. I know we’ve got talent, but last year was so fun to watch, so amazing to see night after night DDot, Doke, etc leading this team.
-
Yepp this years team you will see a noticeable downturn
-
Too painful to look back and wonder now. Can only look forward!
-
I, for one, welcome our midrange jumper shooting, spastic defending Big overlord.
And I’m ready for Marvelous Marcus to be the man.
-
Just think about those 2 minute stretches that happened with increasing frequency where Marcus picked someone, conjured a bucket in transition and then DID IT IMMEDIATELY again.
-
MVP = Marcus VF—ing PGarrett.
He is the bridge to success from last year. We will be a faster run and gun offense and he’ll be the key.
-
@approxinfinity keep his ankles healthy
-
@approxinfinity Oh yeah, we will definitely be faster paced. I’m looking forward to seeing Braun and Enaruna play. I think that Enaruna will step up this year.
-
-
What does everyone think the ppg will average out as?
I’m guessing Bryce, David, and Marcus will be around 15 with Marcus having 6+ assists. The rest I couldn’t tell ya.
-
@rockchalkwyo We’ll have about a 67 ppg average. The D should still be pretty good, and it’s going to have to be. We will run more, but there is no more Dok to clog the middle or Dot to drive inside.
-
@Marco That would be the lowest in the Bill Self era by a fairly significant margin. I would lean towards at least 72 a game, probably slightly higher.
-
Mid 70’s.
I expect the returning vet’s who will be playing a lot of minutes to be the most likely leaders, Agbaji & McCormack especially and we need those guys to be consistent every night. Marcus has to stay healthy, he’s probably around 10ppg. Bryce and Grant-Foster are the wildcards. I think there’s optimism Bryce even as a freshman will be 10+ppg as he’ll likely start or be playing 25 minutes a game. I think Braun is another that could hit double figures if he earns a starting role. Those 6 should be the main core to expect
-
I’m not giving up on Harris contributing. I’m anxious to see him play too.
-
Harris will be in the rotation. He can’t shoot though.
-
Absolutely see Harris playing he’s just not a high volume scorer. Don’t know that he’ll ever be one but we got 4/5 years to see what happens
-
@BeddieKU23 I was giving Bryce a 14 ppg average and Braun about 11, Dave 12. The wildcards are Enaruna and even Wilson.
-
@BShark Yeah, I know, but you and I are not that far off. The question is going to be, what is our identity? I have been thinking about what you said and you could be right as far as Thompson leading us in scoring. I hope Enaruna plays well this year.
-
I think Bryce is capable of that but I’ve learned to be conservative with freshman guards under Self. If Bryce averages 14 a game that’s big time for a freshman and you may not get a 2nd year of him in a Hawk uniform.
I can see around 11 for Braun if he starts. He’s in a battle with Bryce & Grant Foster for a starting spot. I see those 3 battling for the two spots up for grabs in the 4 guard lineup. Should be good competition and create a bit of a “6th man” for this squad.
I don’t know what to expect from Enaruna & Wilson just yet. Should be interesting to see what roles they earn. Tristan definitely had some growing pains as a freshman and Wilson’s injury left him way behind. They both give Self flexibility and different skill sets though to play around with
-
Garrett, Thompson, Agbaji, Braun, McCormack looking like it will be the starting line-up.
-
Self has been experimenting with 5 guard lineups… Imagine that…

lol

It will be quite interesting to see how high shooting percentages will go when the refs enforce a 6 foot social distancing space on defenders.
This, and other rules, will make basketball possible this year!
-
@BeddieKU23 I like it

This is their best lineup imo. Can switch everything 1-4 and their best shooting lineup still.
-
Wow Texas Tech just got Matt McClung’s transfer waiver approved.

Don’t think this is a kid you win with. Will test Beard.

Double-edge sword player. Beard will attempt to dull the bad edge.
-
Self talking today said David has been the best player. TGF up and down but we haven’t had someone like him in awhile when he is on. Sounds like Bryce is on track to be the 5th starter.
-
Questions that have to be answered for this team:
-
Can everyone stay healthy and COVID-free? COVID could keep someone out of the lineup for 2-3 weeks, but also may throw off timing and fitness for several weeks after that.
-
Can the guards/wings figure out their roles and rotation? There are a lot of them, and they have to exist in a world where only 3 or 4 of them get significant minutes. Someone is going to get left out. The only questions are who and why. Depth is a must this year for obvious reasons, but guys that aren’t playing one week have to be ready to play the next.
-
How do the new guys fit in? TGF, Thompson, even Wilson since he barely played last year. It’s unlikely that at least two of those guys won’t have to be very productive for KU to be good, so they need to be on track. It hurts that TGF hasn’t been 100%, but that just means Wilson needs to be ready.

from todays conference - Coach was asked where David’s biggest growth was, his response was scoring. - -Coach talked about how Marcus had made separation - - how David had made separation , how Braun had made SOME separation maybe not as much as they would like.
They asked Coach about if he was worried about the COVID and he said well ya he was - -talked about how he had heard that Oklahoma had shut down a couple of days ago ? Talked about he had heard a Biden advisor that he could see the possibility of a 4-6 week shutdown
He talked about how David and Mitch was going to have to get 33-37 minutes out of the two and wouldn’t mater if one was playing great or not the other was still gonna get his minutes -saying it wouldn’t effect Mitch one way or another if Dave was playing great or the other way - wouldn’t effect Mitch playing -just some misc things from today

Fun basketball coming to the league. This kid is fun! He’ll not only make his own team players better, he will make players throughout the league better because those kind of moves get attention and followers.
