Transfer Rumblings

Drat. No good news today, maybe next week.
-
He’ll just quietly enroll and we’ll only know he committed once we see his name in the first starting lineup graphic
-
Whts the timeframe on Acuff commitment?
-
Dang, I had my hopes up for some recruiting announcements. I’ve been glued to the board but nada!
What happens in Lawrence stays in Lawrence?

How hilarious would that be
-
Sounds like they signed two players over the weekend but we won’t hear about it for a bit.
-
@BShark Honestly at this point it doesn’t matter who they are. Until they set foot on campus in the spring the possibility of bolting is very real. Non binding contracts and neither party’s word is worth much - Bill will recruit over them in a heartbeat and they will take more money elsewhere if offered.
-
@dylans Yeah it’s all pretty silly now.
-
Sounds like it was trending that way before the visits began. If one of them is the 25 recruit, well its certainly interesting taking a commitment this far in advance when so much changes in a day now…
-
The old Kurtis Townsend special.

Was starting to wonder what he did in recruiting these days. He’s still out there getting it done it seems
-
@BShark So 2025 looking like Acuff and SWA so far

Yep as long as they’ve told the right people (which I’m sure is the case) we good
-
@FarmerJayhawk I see we made the final list for Brea, think we are still in play there? I realize we would have to lose someone (or if Kugel doesn’t academically qualify).
-
Brea would be the chef’s kiss on a great recruiting effort (assuming no defections).
-
@bskeet Unfortunately we’d have to lose someone to pick up Brea. Additionally his final list are all heavy hitters. Uconn, UK, UNC, Duke, and KU - most of which have much more PT to offer than we do…
-
@PharmacyHawk yeah he’s in play if Kugel doesn’t work out but I would guess he’s got the promise of a starting job elsewhere
-
Staff likes Griffen more than Brea it appears
-
@kuballin10 It does seem that way, yeah, which I can’t blame them. Griffin was a stud at Bama last year. But after having absolutely zero depth I want all the depth plz.
-
Yes Griffen >> Brea

I have a tweet ready to go if we do in fact get Mr Acuff.
-
Seems like this weekend was a big dud as both guys didn’t commit as planned or am I missing something….
-
@kuballin10 @BShark stated above that it sounds like 2 players signed, but we would not hear about it for awhile.
-
we good (x2)
-
@FarmerJayhawk Probably a dumb question, but why wait to make the announcement? NIL issues? It can’t be tampering… just odd, but what do I know.
-
@PharmacyHawk honestly there’s just no rush to announce it. If he wants to wrap up classes at Bama and talk things over with his family that’s all fine with the staff. His spot at KU is secure.
-
@FarmerJayhawk What’s the logic then for Acuff a 25 dude? More he waits the more he’s recruited elsewhere
-
@kuballin10 some coaches do hotbox kids into committing (more common in football, though Lance really grills guys to make sure that’s what they want) but Bill really doesn’t. Rushing a kid is usually bad for you. If he wants to take a few days or weeks or whatever that’s his prerogative. Shoot he might just want to finish finals first
-
True get out of Bama without too many people mad at him cause he “officially” hasn’t transferred anywhere
-
Come on down Javon Small (or Brea but that seems like a bigger lift)

Nope. Please ban in conference transfers. Anybody have that power anymore?

The SEC does it in football for one of the windows but I doubt there’s much appetite for it

Yea, sucks, but I still dislike it. I can’t wait to see what college sports looks like in 5 years. No way it’s the same. Sorry for the sidetrack.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk hasnt college sports progressively gotten worse for the fan? Doesnt that mean whenever now is, this is as good as it gets?
-
Can’t wait for these covid seniors to finally be done

Hold on a bit, @approxinfinity , I think I have to let the mushrooms kick in before I can dive into that existential inquiry!
Is that kinda like saying yesterday’s future is tomorrow’s today?

Same…get these senior citizens out of the college game lol.
-
@approxinfinity Since 2020 I’d agree the sport has regressed in a big way.
-
@TYOHawk College coaches always value experience so we’ve ended up with this terrible product of 25 year olds still playing while freshman have to transfer since they’ll know they’ll get played over and recruited over. It’s terrible at that point some players gotta give up basketball.

Couldn’t agree more.

Branham of 247 said on their recent video thing to watch out for Kansas with Javon Small.

@BShark Pg1……
-
Question ? - - Did we end up getting Griffin or not ?- --If we did then what’s the hold up with them announcing is transfer ?-- - going on a week since he was on Campus.- Yet have not hear anything announcing his commit. from the School or him.
-
@kuballin10 I think everyone, including you, including Juan, will be much happier with Harris’s production next year if he is closer to the 25-30 minute a game mark than the 36 or whatever he was at this year. His defense can be more aggressive, his legs will have more juice, etc. We don’t need a PG1. We need a REAL PG2. Some say Zeke can handle some PG2 minutes but I’m skeptical there because from what I’ve seen athleticism and defense are not among his strengths. I still have some hopes of Elmarko developing into PG2 this year but another option to keep him motivated is a must in my opinion. If we get Griffin, the wings seem pretty set. If you have KJ, Store, Griffin, Kuegle, and Zeke all rotating through the 2-4 spots, I feel good about that. Obviously KJ is really only a 4 and not sure Zeke is really a 3, but the other guys have at least some versatility in there. Now, if Kuegle AND Griffin don’t make it to campus, we will need another 6’5-6’8 athletic type that can shoot to fill out that depth chart. But assuming they both stay on, I’m good with shifting some focus to the 1 for solid back up minutes with Philon gone.
I think 10-15 minutes a game this year with the opportunity to lead KU in the future is a decent selling point for a lot of guards.
-
It does not matter whether some fans are happy with DeJuan or not. What matters is whether he plays well and helps us win games. He has done that for four years and will likely, as you pointed out, be able to play even better with a decent backup pg to gibe him some rest and some shooters and creators to take the burden of running the entire offense off his shoulders. Some people will not be happy because DeJuan will smartly play to his strengths and set up other people for shots instead of trying to score a lot himself, but like I said it doesn’t matter as long as he makes the team better.
-
I am ready for the Dajuan Harris takes no prisoners final campaign leading the army we wish we had.
-
@approxinfinity I’m ready for him to go 28 min, 14 pts, 7 ast, 2.5 stl, with less than 2 turnovers a game this year.
-
@approxinfinity. If I may: “…leading the army we hope to have”
-
@HoraceZontal no i mean the army we wish we had last year, and the army we WILL have this year. I’m stupid optimistic.
-
I do not want DaJuan to average 14ppg because that means he is shooting too much. I do want him to cut down the turnovers and finish better at the rim. Stats don’t matter that much but just for a fun ballpark figure I would like for him to average around 8 points and 8 assists per game with a couple steals and relatively low turnovers.
