Bowl game tracker

  • Jerry palm and CBS has us currently in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl against Maryland

  • One ESPN guy also has us in the Guaranteed Rate bowl against Northwestern, the other ESPN guy has us in the liberty bowl against South Carolina @mayjay

  • 247 also likes us for Guaranteed rate against Northwestern. CFN has us in same game but against Nebraska, an interesting proposition.

  • Athlon has us in the guaranteed rate bowl against Maryland.

  • Fox sports doesn’t list us in a bowl game, which I think is possible, but not probable?

  • Where is that?

  • @wissox said in Bowl game tracker:

They had KU in the Texas Bowl against Texas A&M last week. I don’t think their new projection has dropped yet this week.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in Bowl game tracker:

    Where is that?

Guaranteed Rate Bowl is in Phoenix at Chase Field. It’s the same bowl game we played against Minnesota in 2008 when it was the Insight Bowl then.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I was looking at a hot off the presses article, scanned it like 3 times, didn’t see us there.

Still Texas Bowl against Texas A&M

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 They fixed it and put us in there. One of my friends kids plays for AM, that would be interesting.

  • Latest one I seen was KU & Northwestern

  • I keep hearing Liberty bowl or Texas Bowl against A&M or Auburn. I’d rather not go back to the Liberty Bowl again but don’t really care as long as we win. I’d rather play A&M that Auburn personally.

  • Listening to post game last night with David Lawrence , he was saying that he thought at the worst he thinks we should possibly get the invite to the Guaranteed rate Bowl- - said that’s a good bowl. - -We will find out in a week. - -ROCK CHALK

  • @jayballer67 Guaranteed Rate Bowl is the Insight bowl renamed. We won in it 2008 with MM, would be against a big 10 opponent likely Northwestern or Wisconsin. It’s fun to not know for sure where we will end up, believe they announce next Sunday. I just don’t want to go back to the Liberty Bowl because we barely went 6-6 last season. We are a much better team this season going 8-4 despite QB woes. I would like to see us rewarded for that.

  • Better bowl than ksu!😎🌾🌾

  • @kjayhawks Minnesota. Interestingly, KU won 2 bowl games in 2008.

  • Finished 7th in the big12. Does that determine the bowl?

  • @dylans Yes, it determines we go to the stupid named bowl.

  • @dylans said in Bowl game tracker:

Finished 7th in the big12. Does that determine the bowl?

Sort of. Each bowl with a Big 12 affiliation gets to pick who they want in that order. If the B12 champ is not in the CFP, then that team goes to either the Cotton, Fiesta, or Peach Bowls depending on which bowls are hosting CFP games and if there’s another B12 team that qualifies for a NY6.

The Alamo Bowl has 1st choice among the remaining B12 teams not invited to the CFP and NY6 Bowls.

The Pop-Tarts Bowl has 2nd choice, then the Texas Bowl, then the Liberty Bowl, Guaranteed Rate Bowl, then either the First Responders or Military Bowl, and then Independence Bowl gets whoever is left.

  • Jerry Palm has us in the Guaranteed Rate vs. Rutgers.

  • @wissox said in Bowl game tracker:

And that’s the likely destination for KU if Oklahoma doesn’t get into a NY6 Bowl. If OU does get into a NY6 Bowl, then KU would likely end up in the Texas Bowl since they’d be unlikely to go back to the Liberty Bowl this year.

  • @mayjay Yes the orange bowl was after the new year and the insight bowl was New Year’s Eve.

  • Here’s how much better our season could have been: There’s 7 teams with better or equal records than us in the league and we played 6 of them. There’s 6 teams with worse records and we played 3 of them. There’s so much to like about what this team did this year and the future is shining bright.

  • It’s so refreshing worrying about which bowl game we’re going to this year.

And with a good special teams unit, we’re sitting at 11-1, playing Texas in Dallas with a good shot at a NY6 bowl.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 ESPN loves bowls and they’re to be blamed for the nauseatingly bad Minnesota team at 5-7 getting a bowl bid.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in Bowl game tracker:

    Espn has ksu in Phoenix

I must not be seeing the same thing you are because I’m seeing then projected to the Texas Bowl by both of ESPN’s projectors. During tge broadcast last night, it also sounded like the Pop Tarts Bowl would be a likely destination as their reps have been at several recent KSU games.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I’m seeing Texas bowl vs Texas A&M for ksu. too. Looks like wvu or isu for Phoenix. And we have armed services dec 23 in ft worth. Vs Syracuse or Wyoming. Do we have the the worst one?

  • Maybe the PopTart Bowl will be fun! From The Athletic’s newsletter “The Pulse”:

The Pop-Tarts Bowl will feature an edible mascot, which is something else entirely, and I can’t stop thinking about it. I get the thought: “How can we hop on this trend and differentiate ourselves?”

But … did they have to put eyes on the edible mascot? Just look at the poor Tart: [pic]

Is the mascot happy to be eaten? Or is there fear behind the empty smile, which contains Pop-Tart filling? Is this sentient pastry excited that multiple large men will hunt it down after winning a semi-exhibition game, hungry from tackling other people for three hours?

The mascot “will run around the stadium interacting with fans and, when the final whistle blows, transform into a game-winning snack for the victors,” according to a press release.

  • @mayjay Sounds like fun, but Fox doesn’t want us there it’s sending us to the Guaranteed Rate Bowl against Northwestern. This is nauseating to me as a White Sox fan as our awful stadium has the awfullest named stadium in sports with a logo as a red arrow pointing down.

  • The consensus seems to be Guaranteed Rate game at most sports sites. This to me is a little bit disrespectful as our team is 30 in the other receiving votes which kind of implies top 15 type bowl. I know a lot goes into bowl game selections with all of the bowl game tie ins, but I was hoping our really nice season was rewarded with a game against another decent team. When I see awful 5-7 minnesota slotted into the same game in some projections you’ll understand what I’m getting at.

  • Just winning the silly bowl game is all I want.

  • I wonder how popular ksu will be w/out a lot their starters? The fans and their pick of bowls?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 - I hadn’t seen that anywhere. Link?

  • I meant will they think twice about giving ksu a better bowl than us considering they are losing quality players and maybe lack a great fan crowd.

  • So, GR Bowl is in Phoenix on Dec 26? Boxing Day timing might mess up big attendance by either school…

  • @mayjay Phoenix is not even known as a big venue for boxing. 😉

  • @Crimsonorblue22 said in Bowl game tracker:

Pop Tarts Bowl officials have been at a lot of recent KSU games so that seems like the most likely scenario for them. The conference title games could also impact the Big 12 as Texas still has a shot at the CFP and OU is still in play for a NY6 Bowl which could impact KU and bump us up to the Texas Bowl.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 The Texas Bowl would be in your city correct?

  • So which record carries the most weight, overall wins/losses or conference record? Using overall KU’s 8-4 record puts us in a tie for 3rd with KST and WV. But, conference record of 5-4 puts us in a tie for 7th with Tx Tech. We’ll know Sunday for sure. Why doesn’t the NCAA make a big deal out of the announcements like the NCAA tournament? I guess the individual bowls want to make the announcements to their schools as soon as possible so there’s no control over the information getting out.

  • So what happens if Bama beats Georgia?

  • @kjayhawks Texas has to be the choice right? 1 loss champ and has the head to head over Bama.

Things get really nuts if FSU loses

  • @FarmerJayhawk yes it does, obviously Washington is locked in being #3 and winning the conference. But yes if FSU, Georgia and/or Michigan lose. It becomes a total guess

NCAA doesn’t hype it because they don’t make money from it. A majority of the bowls are actually operated by ESPN so they have original content to air this time of year.

Conference record is typically what carries more weight, but that’s not the only factor determining who plays in which bowl game. Each bowl game is given a spot in the priority order and when it’s that bowl game’s time to choose, they can choose any eligible team from that conference, but the bowls mostly do follow the order of finish in the conference when selecting.

For example, Kentucky’s record has them slotted into the Music City Bowl this year, but they’ve played there a bunch in recent years and basically told the SEC that they want to play in a different bowl game this year. KU’s record would have them slotted into the Liberty Bowl again this year, but some bowls try to avoid bringing teams back in consecutive years.

Is KU a more attractive team than WVU this year? Maybe, but the team that’s consistently been projected to the Texas Bowl in recent weeks is Texas A&M which is the team that bowl cares more about landing because College Station is about a 90 minute drive from Houston and will be the ticket seller for the game since Houston is the largest A&M alumni base. Because of that, they won’t really care who the Big 12 is and will likely take whoever the highest finishing B12 team left is when it’s their turn to choose if they land A&M.

  • @kjayhawks said in Bowl game tracker:

In that scenario, Washington, Texas, and Alabama would be in and it would likely ve Georgia that gets that 4th spot.

At this point, without Jordan Travis, I’m think FSU may have to blow out Louisville to keep the 4th seed and a close win may drop them below Texas at this point with how dominant Texas was today.

  • Watching this Bama game KU has better QBs, plural than both the tide and dogs. Never thought that would happen.

  • So we find out tomorrow where w land? - - anyone know what time we will find out ?

  • If FSU wins they have to be in. If Bama wins , you can’t put them in and NOT Texas. They would have the same record , both conference champs, but Texas obviously Beat Bama at Bama by 10.

Playoff selection show is on at 11am tomorrow on ESPN and will be on until 2pm so sometime between then.
