Transfer Rumblings

  • How many of these texa$$ guys are headed to the nba?

None, but they are going to lose Allen, Bishop, Carr, and Rice to eligibility.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah I’d count the Lawsons good call.

  • It’s interesting how much the Texas money train doesn’t want Rodney to stay. I will say it’s hard to gauge from a stand point of him not building this talented team.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 - so UT is losing 63 of last night’s 83 points to eligibility. Should be tough on a new coach…

It’ll probably be more points than that if the interim tag isn’t removed from Terry too.

  • Reading what Temple fans have to say, I want no part of this kid. We’ve had a great culture and the last thing we need is a potential headache that’s an upperclassmen. Just my two cents.

Now if he’s the 4th transfer perhaps he’s worth taking a shot on but i’ll leave it to the staff to make the right moves here. We will see if he visits and what the staff feels about his last situation which clearly did not end on the best of terms. His film certainly pops as a scorer. We need scoring among other things. He certainly looked capable of getting his own shot, another need.

Last time we had an upper-classman malcontent was 2018-19 and was a homegrown one in Lagerald Vick. That team also had Dedric Lawson who worked out well and Quentin Grimes who while not a malcontent, had his own issues. KU also lost 10 games that year. With KU likely being one of the younger teams in the country next year, at least half the roster will be 1st or 2nd year players, I would avoid someone who potentially has significant character flaws next season.

  • We have Bill Self. He won’t let a transfer kill the team or they’ll be sent on their way like LaGerald. We need bucket getters and dudes.

  • Not interested in rooting for kids with bad attitudes if its avoidable. Im ok with a building year with a floor of making the tournament.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

Exactly, that was the year I had in mind when thinking about worst case scenario here. That potential visit will be important for vetting his character in person.

We know Self doesn’t have an issue cutting dead weight, but how much damage can that dead weight do to a very young roster which KU will be is a major concern. If this was an older roster with strong, established leadership, I’d be more willing to take a risk on a character issue player because they’d be less likely to be able to poison a roster.

  • So shouting out to BShark. - -BShark buddy from your inside without saying anything your not suppose to say - -is there any substance about the possibility that MJ does NOT transfer out ? - -Is there any substance to what’s being talked about that the staff is actively trying to get him to come back ?

If that is true and he would stay we still have 3 Scholi’s for portal right ? - -If MJ could gt on board and buy into the TEAM concept and learn and put the effort to play on the defensive end I wouldn’t have any problem with him at all if he could do that - love to have him stay - -he has skills there is no doubt just got to get it together. Have you heard anything of any substance about him at all ?

  • @jayballer67 I suspect there will be news Monday.

  • I was skeptical of the Tarik Black transfer from Memphis back in the day, and he ended up being a solid guy. I can’t think of too many transfers who ended up being poison other than that weird Dedric/KJ/DaddyLawson combo we got which wasn’t great.

  • @DanR dedric drove me nuts! Couldn’t jump, couldn’t move his feet to play D. He could shoot. BG was better at D than him. That’s not saying much. That auburn game was so embarrassing!

  • I loved Tarik Black! That dunk against texa$$! The bench reaction! Money!

  • I LOVED Tarik. One of the OG grad transfers. Fit that team perfectly.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Tournament streak ends without him.

  • Wheeler to KSU rumors. I NEED IT @Kcmatt7

    Lol you’re shitting me right?

  • @Kcmatt7 No lies in this thread from me.

  • “What we know” update @FarmerJayhawk definitely feel free to add stuff here.

    Guys not in the portal

Things still appear to be sitting very good with Ingram and Jones. Can’t call anything done until it’s announced however.

    Interest in Raequon Battle.

Mystery guard still in play but due to the nature of it, I believe they would take one of the guys actually in the portal first.

Chris Livingston transfer smoke has some legs. IF it were purely up to him, he probably stays at Kentucky. However handlers are involved and they are not happy. Kentucky people want to keep him, but think he transfers. I haven’t heard anything on KU’s end with him. I think Self would like him but there are actually some reasons I don’t love the fit at KU. Namely said handlers and what they think his position is as well as his bbiq.

    Guys in the portal

Khalif Battle is on a visit to UCF today. KU did a zoom meeting with him Wednesday and it went well. There is strong mutual interest and there should be a visit to Lawrence, KS for him.

Nicolas Timberlake is an actual target. Not sure exactly where on the pecking order he would be. Super deluxe SR, one year guy. He would be twenty five!!! years old before KU tips its first game next year.

  • @BShark said in Transfer Rumblings:

Wheeler to KSU rumors. I NEED IT @Kcmatt7

I’ve seen/heard that also. I know well I’ve read there are a lot of Kentucky fans that would be happy to see him leave -perfect spot for KSU - -watch him try and follow up Nowell lmao

  • KSU will get to hand pick their next PG with how Tang pretty much let Nowell do whatever he wanted within the offense.

  • @kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

Hand pick is a stretch. There are other factors. KSU won’t be outbidding Duke, UK, UNC, KU et al

  • @BShark I honestly don’t know that being a blue blood helps as much these days. BS has been quoted saying it doesn’t, it’s probably more about the $$$ than anything. I personally don’t think Tang and KSU can reproduce what they did this season either way.

  • @kjayhawks Being a blue blood means nothing other than that those schools typically have resources and money. It’s about how much you allocate to sports. KSU puts more into football than us for example…

  • @BShark I see what you meant $$$, all it is anymore good or bad

They won’t. - If Tand can win at the rae he di without Nowell & Johnson - -then I’ll put more stock into it BUT right now I’m not sold. - he looks like might be decent Coach but let’s not let the pony’s loose yet

And yet they STILL have no National Championship in football either lmao

  • Was talking to a good friend last night who works in an AAC AD and is pretty involved with their hoops program. Said Battle was a hothead and can’t (won’t) play within an offense. Apparently almost started a couple fights this year.

Highly doubt he ends up here.

  • Also re: Livingston. Bill loves him. Yeah his people fancy him a 2/3 but at least lately Bill hasn’t really distinguished the 2-4 spots in any meaningful way so not an issue here.

Yeah seems like if the staff does their due diligence they would probably pass.

Uh Oh - - can you smelllllllllllllllll - what the Rock is Cookin - - -ROCH CHALK

  • Big day tomorrow for portal entries I imagine.

  • I’m hearing Kevin is considering returning, not sure what anyone else has heard.

  • @kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

I’m hearing Kevin is considering returning, not sure what anyone else has heard.

Pretty sure he’s done but curious where you’ve heard it. I haven’t heard a whisper of it. Basically I had kept hearing that only Juan/KJ/Udeh/Zuby were expected back and that hasn’t changed.

  • I can only deal with Livingston if he’s fine with being a 4. If he’s adamant on being a 3 I’d pass

  • @TYOHawk the way we’re going to play it really doesn’t matter. We switch everything defensively so position is less relevant there, and change up action based more on personnel than position on offense. I’m actually not sure what the distinction between the 3 and 4 is for us now.

  • Watched some Harrison Ingram tape finally. Saw a lot to like, and some bad. He’s a VERY gifted ballhandler and passer for his size. He’s a legit 6’8 with a long wingspan. As a result, he’s a strong positional and help defender and driver. His lack of suddenness really affects his ability to finish when he’s in an iso. His shot form is kinda broken. The lower half just doesn’t do a lot so everything is flat. Same thing happens at the line. Overall he’s just stiff. But he’s always in position and can make plays. I like him a lot as a wing.

We’re not going to replace Dick, McCullar, and Wilson 1:1. The mix of skills will be different. E.g. Ingram could replace Jalen’s rebounding, Jones Dick’s shooting and McCullar’s defense, and Ingram McCullar’s BBIQ. The mix will be different but these dudes can ball.

Tl;dr. He’s a 6’8 version of Juan. If you don’t like Juan you won’t like Ingram. However, Billy Eugene Self will love him and oh boy if you don’t think Juan is a great guard WHEW BOY you will hate Ingram. Player comp: Kyle Anderson.

  • On Jones. Dude can fill it up. The shot is bad. But hey, it goes in A LOT. It actually might be so oblong that defenders can’t square it up. He also moves better than you’d think. Makes a lot of contested two’s. The three ball is obviously there. Is not just a spot up guy. Can take a step and bury one in your eye hole

Definitely a below the rim player but does ok sticking to his man.

Ingram and Jones are very complementary. Both big wings. Ingram is more of a point forward, Jones a 3 and D.

If we get them both, we’ll need a scoring guard/wing and an athlete at the 5 if we keep switching on D.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Ingram is my most wanted as long as all the other guys we grab can shoot. He’d slay at the 4 for us.

  • @BShark

Besides some lacking athleticism I agree he’d do enough to earn his keep here. The shot also needs work. He can shoot, just inconsistent

  • HEARINGS: Based on recent rumblings about how much our guys got this year, I ain’t too worried about finding dudes in the portal. That is all.
