@Kcmatt7 it absolutely will destroy the field. I believe that’s why Sporting didn’t want the D2 championship back. Too much work to keep the field in soccer shape.
The D2 title game is well after soccer season is over so that’s not a reason I’m believing for not renewing the D2 title game. As for not wanting KU footballas a temporary tenant, that would be more reasonable as Children’s Mercy already hosts 2 pro soccer teams and there is some significant overlap between MLS, NWSL, and college football schedules in September and October.

Could be an announcement tomorrow. A Lawrence firm got the contract for (I believe) phase 1 of the project, I’ve heard HNTB will do the heavy lifting on the actual stadium.

For sure stadium or could it be LL contract?
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich I don’t think any contract is that close to done.
-
Contract negotiations for Leipold just started. I can’t see them being done yet unless KU basically handed him a blank piece of paper and told him to write whatever he wanted on it.

I too had heard possible about Stadium
-
Farmer I’m sur you seen it , but seen a couple of pics out there from TOS one was like Minnesota Stadium - - not sure about you but I liked the looks of that myself. - -Did you see it ?
-
@jayballer67 I like their stadium a lot. The view of the downtown skyline is pretty cool. My favorite design is Washington’s. I love how they ripped out almost all end zone seating and built it like a canyon. Imagine the hill and Campanile instead of the lake. Perfection.

That would be sweet. - Heard some people aying they don’t want the End Zone blocked in a blocking the view of t he hill. - Mn TOS is on fire tonight just burning with things
-
Goff is going to get immortalized if he keeps LL and gets a stadium done.
-
Was talking with a friend and he haad heard of a radio Station that KU has asked Coach what he was looking for what he needed - -Coach said that he want money for NIL’S - -& he talked about the Stadium being upgraded.
I can imagine they said on the spot - - - DONE - I mean they already know how badly the Stadium needs major , major remodel - -NILS only make sense , I feel whatever Coach asks for they will try and do all possible to make it happen.

That’s good news - -this renovation is a must 100 % - -glad to see, we should see something happening before to long
-
Cool $200m committed today

Very cool indeed. Looks like it’s actually gonna happen. - -shouldn’t be real hard for the remaining. - I have heard anywhere total cost from 300- - -325-- 350 million total --any other estimates ?
-
@jayballer67 I think by the time it’s all said and done it’ll be $450m ish. We’re looking at a near complete demo and rebuild, which with inflation will be pricey. Also the investments to the north of the stadium are said to be substantial.
-
Random question.
Is Kansas, KU, or Lawrence issuing municipal bonds in an effort to help raise money/capital?
Or is the money from endowments and donations?
-
@rockchalkwyo heard the vast majority will come from the latter.
It’s kind of funny seeing KSU fans all butthurt saying they didn’t use any public funding, but they did issue a crapload of revenue bonds through the state lol
-
We could have a bake sale. Or carwash.

I will rock a banana hammock if duty calls

Oh it’s gonna be nice when it’s all said and done from everything I hear. - -Can’t wait to see renderings - -Thinking they will be starting before to long on Anderson -they better lol - -Lance will be hot if he doesn’t see progress lol he has them on a time table

@jayballer67 Anderson reno is starting after the spring game

looking forward to it. - - This is something that has needed done for some time. - Both was in such bad shape. Thing is and some don’t realize that the surroundings / stadium / field / and things all play a big part in recruiting. Better players like to play in nice facilities / weight rooms / training and such . We have to keep up , if we want better players–we need better facilities isn’t the only thing but these things do pla a part.
I can’t wait to see / experience it when it is al said and done, like you say it’s going to be practially a whole new stadium - seeing that new and then seeing the hill what a sight that will be at night. - -get’s me stoked
-
@jayballer67 for sure. Casual fans forget how much time current players and recruits spend in Anderson. It had some work done a few years ago but it’s already dated.
-
@jayballer67 How many damn tax dollars has the State of Kansas appropriated to K-State for their bovine frolicking?
-
@nuleafjhawk at least $50m because their Ag school got the same grant lol

Sweet, that’s so good to hear. - Have been wanting and hopefully they will show some renderings – been looking forward trying to get some kind of Idea what we gonna be seeing. Yes I know that might be it - -but something anything for us starved crazt football guys that are craving those improvements that’s been so badly needed - - Thanks Farmer

DAM Farmer that looks so SWEET. so happy for these guys. People have to understand we need these type of facilities to keep up with the Jones. - We want top recruit’s to come in and visit and see we are invested into our football. - Looks fricken awesome.
Seen a post from TOS saying that fully believes that this is going to be in top 5 Nationally-- Looks sweet - - - LET’S DO THIS
-
@FarmerJayhawk sweetness!
-
Farmer, Makes me, old dude, wanna work out there
-
Any stadium renovation experts out there? I don’t think i ever grasped the scope of the project, and now i’m seeing photos (and live cams) of them pretty much tearing down most of the current stadium. I thought they were just putting up lights and stuff!
Anybody know the plan? thx
-
@rockchalkjayhawk it is a whole tear down and rebuild from the hill out to 11th! https://kugatewaydistrict.com/

I knew about the west side and bowl but is it a total tear down on the East side in phase two also ?

Phase 2 is a whole brand new stadium, and all the bells and whistles around it. The area won’t be recognizable

Well hell! Clueless me. Ha. Thanks, Farmer.
Impressive. I truly didn’t realize they were starting from the ground up (and out). Duh. Crazy.
That’s gonna look great. I’ll need to go read more about the timeline. About time, huh! Hopefully recruits are impressed, too.
-
Oh, where they gonna play next season?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Arrowhead mostly but TBD

Mercy , had no idea - -really happy but didn’t realize. - -Hope we can get the fundings
-
I also did not realize how much they were tearing out. I thought they were tearing out seats to reconfigure that and make room for suites… etc. But did not expect the press box, field, apparently everything to go.
I left this question on twitter for Matt Tait but he hasn’t responded… maybe someone here knows the answer: The stadium is a WW1 memorial. What part of the memorial is going to remain (or be preserved)? Any of it??
-
@bskeet This is in the A Walk Through History section on the Gateway District info site about the renovation:
“The renovated David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium will continue its cherished history by commemorating WWI as one of Kansas’ six war memorials. Details on the memorial will be released at a later date.”
Don’t know if this is old or still awaiting details.
-
Thank you. I had not seen that. Feel like that’s pretty important. Hope they don’t bury it just because it’s 100+ years old. I think the historical aspect of our campus is an asset and honoring those who have served should not be pushed downstream, to a footnote or token acknowledgment.
-
The entire west side and bowl are down!

Ya , like gone , gone all of it.- -Now clean up remains and then - - - - - -do we start rebuild now of those area’s ? - -I’m assuming so right?–everything down. - -I never would of thought they would of been working on weekends or days like the other day and then today with weather conditions like they are.
