What a win this was incredible
Epiphany moment. Bill Self is the best coach in all of basketball, and it shows. Now we got a real big man.
-
Okay who’s got next. Put your coins on the table. Let’s go!
-
@Jethro said in Chef Dick vs Conference Traitors Game Thread:
i notice the posts all drop off when we’re playing well. funny how that works…
We are mainly here to complain!
-
That makes KU 4-1 against the SEC this year.
-
Everyone needs to settle with the Udeh over KJ talk, KJ had a good game too. Let’s not rush the young fella and put him as a starter just yet.
-
Been a while since we’ve seen the walk-ons.
-
@DCHawker said in Chef Dick vs Conference Traitors Game Thread:
We’ve complained - rightfully - about our bench production. OU’s has 0 points on 0-7 shooting…
Yep.
Our bench has been very nice in this recent stretch. I think we have seen our tournament 7. Starters + Udeh + Joe. MJ I think is only stealing minutes when Bill is more comfortable.

Zuby back
i Saw that–that’s a good thing, he was starting to show some improvement too - -ge him and Udeh progressing ad things looking better - - much better

Having a quality backup big man is certainly great progress. We’ll take it.
-
20 wins! Last time we didn’t reach that mark was 1988-89.
-
Would not have thought we would end up shooting 55% from the floor in this game after the way we started I tell you what.
-
I think the start was 5-19 from the floor which means they finished 28-41.
-
@kjayhawks The great thing about both of them is that they bring a shitload of energy to the floor. with the progression of Udeh I don’t care which one is on the floor. they each bring their own talents and depending on the circumstances each will contribute
-
19-0 the last 2 years with Juan scoring in Double figures
-
Udeh - -4-4 from the field - - 2 blocks - -& 2 steals - -in right at 18 minutes I think
-
Like they were talking on Radio. This could very well be our last game at Lloyd Noble. - -endin up 22-20 - one of our toughest places to play - - – we had lost 3 out of our last 5 at Noble
-
Need a Horned Toad and Red Raider victory yet today
-
Going into the lab for Tuesday’s game 🧵 title.
-
Considering our shot percentage for the first 5 or 10 minutes of the game, how in the hell did we end up a 55% for the game
-
Coach Self now has 25 consectitive win Seasons – 20 of those at KU
-
Up to 9th on kenpom. Huge game
-
Team had 19 assists today - - 16 steals - - - & 4 blocks
-
I counted four clear attempts to get a lob dunk for MJ but none worked. He has the presence to mix it up on the boards and is hard to push around. And also it was nice to see The Zube on the floor. Texas held serve at Austin as they should have and we got another road win as we should have.
-
Now we get a little more rest then Oklahoma St which is playing on the road later against Iowa St. Riding momentum into Tuesday. We got this
-
Is the team staying in Oklahoma or coming home?
-
When we drive to the rim, we win. When we shoot jumpers all game, we lose.
-
I was really impressed by Udeh’s D.
He was huge when KJ went out with 2 fouls.
We have a post presence on D.
-
KU only shot 10 3s and made 5. Is that enough 3s? I watched at a sports bar, so I didn’t/couldn’t pay attention to OU’s defense. Why so few 3s?
-
@stoptheflop Inside game was working well. Grady wasn’t looking for it either. Those are my best answers but what do I know?

Why shoot 3s when you’re rim running?
-
@stoptheflop that’s pretty efficient so I’m good with it. They face guarded Gradey and Jwil most of the game, didn’t help off of them and dared someone else to shoot. Kevin missed 2 wide open ones and Juan hit one. Teams are okay at this point with anyone but Jwil and Dick shooting the 3 it looks like.

Yes, because the style of play today wasn’t suited for KU jacking 3’s all game. OU’s defense was terrible today and KU was pretty much able to get whatever they wanted at the rim after the slow start. If you’re getting a bunch of easy baskets at the rim, there’s not much reason to shoot a lot of 3’s. KU was probably near 70% from the field from 2 after the slow start. To be that efficient from 3, you’d have to make over 45% and that’s very rarely ever going to happen at a high volume.
KU took what the defense gave them and that’s how it should be every game.
-
@DanR landen can’t jump
-
@BShark for the win!
-
Udeh!
If we can get that from him every game here on out…i’d be over the top pleased. Very quick on his feet for a big.
-
So glad to see us get something from our bench for a few games now. Udeh was a beast! KJ better play smarter (bad fouls) or he’ll continue to lose minutes to Udeh.
Now… we better bear down big time because that OSU game is an absolutely necessary win if we want to stay in the hunt for a conference title. We’ve got to come out strong from the beginning!
-
Seen when I was watching the Arizona /Stanford game- -it scrolled across the bottom. - - KU-is - -16-- 0 - - against unranked teams this yr - - only D-1 to do that
-
Hard to watch- PM is taking this very hard:
-
Dang, was traveling and wasn’t able to watch again. Been awhile since we had a nice blowout on the road. Fun to read the comments here, and yay for no board rat bickering! Can’t wait to watch the replay of this one. If our bench keeps producing like this, I’d feel pretty good about a deep tourney run. This team (like last year’s) is full of surprises!
-
We started off poorly with our shooting and could have been down by double digits but due to OU’s poor shooting stayed in it. The first half was frantic and I can remember thinking thank goodness the halftime came when it did. Our getting to the rim was due to us displaying a high level fast break off turnovers and rebounding. That helped take Groves out of the game after the first ten or so minutes. Dick, again, showed his worth when not scoring by being active on the boards and in passing lanes. When Udeh got his steal and found himself all alone in the open court I thought this will be interesting and it was. Rice must have made some alley oops in practice this week but due mostly to suspect passing it didn’t pan out during the game. Watching Joe with the ball approaching half court I found myself holding my breath and thinking oh s*** he is going to launch one from the logo.
Zuby using his physical gifts to be a beast on defense is still a lady in waiting but could happen like KJ’s was used by Self last year to close out games.
-
Udeh’s monster lob dunk was #9 on ESPN top plays.
The world knows of Ernest now
-
Another milestone for this year’s team: our 20 W’s makes this the 34th consecutive year of 20+ W’s per season. Wow. For jayblaze I looked back at our last non-20 win season. Of course it was Roy’s first year in the 1988/89 season, 19-12 the season after our National Championship. KU was ineligible for the tournament because of the BS recruiting violation. I sure wish KU had fought that like Jerry Tarkanian and UNLV fought proposed sactions during the same time period. But because Coach Brown took off for the NBA and we had a very unproven head coach coming onboard, I guess KU just passively took that suspension. What’s that jayblaze, you ask “what team has the second longest 20+ winning seasons?” Maybe someone will get back to us on that.
-
Feels like the game has really slowed down for Udeh lately. Hoping he has turned a corner there. The fact that we really didn’t change anything defensively from the stuff we run with KJ is remarkable for a guy Udeh’s size. Did a great job moving his feet.
-
@stoptheflop Consecutive 20-win seasons:
first: 34. Kansas (1990-present)
second: 31. North Carolina (1971-2001)

I’d argue the stuff is just enough different to be dangerous. The roll off the pnr is just enough different with kj running short rolls to give him space to make a play and Udeh rim running that it has to be tough for opposing defenders to manage the different coverages they need to run to stop each KU bigs strengths. Add Harris really attacking those things to score right now and JWill and Gradey both being reliable outside shooters and we get real tough to guard for a full 40 minutes.
I’m liking that we don’t have interchangeable pieces but rather players with a variety of strengths that make scouting an issue. With Joe, Udeh, and maybe Rice, off the bench, we have guys that CHANGE the game when they come in, not just keep it going.
-
@benshawks08 I mean defensively. Udeh was switching onto guards. Offensively they bring different things to the table.
-
Udeh’s switching was impressive. Can he do this against teams with better O, let us hope so.
-
We are pumped about Udeh as much as anything else. Watching him move without being paralyzed by indecision is a real eye opener. His length really shows and his handles on lobs are impressive.
