New Guys Arriving

@Jethro hmm, you got me studying up on MJ. I think I’ve undervalued him. He seems very humble and eager to up his game through hard work. Like that a lot. SOLIDLY built! McCullar maybe stole his starting spot by transferring in. Or maybe that makes Dick the sixth man or so.

Oh , it’s not a good thing to under estimate MJ. - -kid can ball , for sure instant made College body. Kid who loves contact , can play through contact & think he has all around game. - -I think there are gonna be people surprised maybe not sure why they would be aas the kid is the real deal.

I think he plays more minutes then what people think. Also know too is that unless your decent there is no discussion of either playing College ball OR trying to go G league or whatever without being pretty solid. I know there was talk about maybe him never touching the floor in College

  • I’ll believe it when I see it with Rice. He’s been more just able to physically dominate HS competition so far. He’s not a great shooter either. Poor man’s Wayne Selden right now IMO

    it’s summer, we can dream…

I watched a few highlight videos on the YouTubes earlier. I didn’t see a great shooter, but his form didn’t look broken at all.

I think the physical domination of defenders will continue once he gets used to the speed of the game.

33% from 3. 9.7 points a game. Wayne’s first year. Not bad. I’d take that. But I think that’s underselling MJ, imho.

Can tell the staff and his family have a good relationship.

For sure. Zuby has a younger brother but he isn’t a guy I think that we’d offer normally.

Speaking of brothers, Landon Braun is coming along well enough. Think he ends up in D1.

  • MJ Rice actually reminds me a bit of HS Lance Stephenson from a game standpoint. Stephenson wasn’t an elite shooter, but was just so strong that he could create space just by being there. MJ is kind of the same way. He’s a capable enough shooter (not like Dick, Braun, Agbaji), but he will be a problem on both ends because of his strength and athleticism. And in the open floor, even at the college level, most guards won’t be able to handle him.

Remember, Ochai Abaji is 6-5, 215. Rice is 6-5, 225, and he hasn’t started college weights and conditioning yet. I don’t think he starts this year, but teams should not sleep on him. There will be an MJ Rice game this season.

'm telling ya once again. People better look out for rice. I thinkhe is being under sold.- -The kid is a stud - -COMPLETE all around player. Bully people around? - - so be it, it is going to be a match up night mare before you know it can pretty much do it all

I think he will give grady a real run for his money for that spot Coach is talking about. - -I’ll take MJ on my team any time any day any where

  • @Kcmatt7 so was the lil guy his dad, the tall lady his mom and the other lady?? What a super cool family or friends! Or both!

I think he’s a true dog, and it won’t be possible to keep him off the court. Him and McCullar are going to flat punish teams in the paint. I can see coach pulling Zach outside the perimeter, and Rice posting up down low. He will eat them alive. I think he’ll be ahead of Gradey.

Phil (the lil guy as you put it) and his wife are adoptive parents. African woman I believe is Zuby’s birth mother yeah.

ya I kind of think he might beat Grady out too, just a much much College made body - -lot more physical attacks the rim plays through contact - where I think Grady likes to play more on the outside. Even the MJ can do that too , maybe not up to Grady on the outside. I just think people are selling MJ short and I don’t know why.

I mean we had so many people sweating nuggets that he would neve touch the College floor and then relieved when he showed AND NOW they talking down playing him just not seeing it - -the kid can flat out ball

  • @BShark 2 moms? That’s pretty cool. They really are a happy bunch!

  • Dang! We got to many talented guys! What to do? Sounds like the new bigs had a great day. Bobby, Kevin, rice out. Wilson not back til next week. Wilson better get busy.

  • New baseball coach!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I like all our non-Cam bigs.

  • Since “the boys are back in town”, any word on team or individual chemistry? Good times ahead?

And admit it, you heard the tune in your head!

What a great single. When the album came out I was working at a Top 40 station in Topeka…my first DJ gig out of college. Never got tired of the song even though we played it at least once or twice a night. It’s a shame that lead singer Phil Lynott died way too young (36)…anther drug casualty.
