    Great win!

these kids just decided we were NOT LOSING

  • Well pressures kind of off for the tourney. Will be fun to see how far they can scratch and claw their way thru the brackets

    EVERYBODY PLAYED GREAT

    But especially Dave and Jalen.

Even Mitch stepped up at times though, it was awesome all around.

  • Can’t wait to hear drew

  • Winning this game almost makes me forget about freezing last week!!!

  • @Crimsonorblue22 on what?

  • if they wanna look at a reason as to why they lost , all they gotta do is look at Butler - -& 3 point shooting and getting the ass handed to them on a plate in the rebounding

  • Kentucky lost, Duke lost, Kansas beat Baylor by double-digits. Feb. 27th was a good day

    A great day

  • But I remember so many comments about how we will never succeed with Dave playing so much…What?

  • @RockChalkinTexas KU Gameday Live on ESPN+

Bill talking to the fans right now. Garrett about to give his Senior night speech.

  • Self is right!!!

  • you can see why Coach Self said Dave had probably improved the most of anyone during the off year. - I’m telling you this guy at times looks good - -just got to get a little more consistency but I’m not complaining - he played his butt off tonight and got after it

  • @mayjay said in Return of the Red Jersey's Game Chat:

Dave has saved our ass more then once this year

  • Baylor - -6-26 from the 3 - -& got outrebounded 48-28 - -and we shot 51 % against one of the better teams in the Nation tonight

  • Glad we didn’t have to rely to the trey…only 3 for 16. The rest of our shots we were 66.6 %

  • Er, “on the trey”

  • 😢😢😢

  • I love Self gets guys like Marcus! I wish everyone that thinks self cheats would watch sr pm.

  • Baylor fans are struggling

"I also hate to say it but once again Self completely out coached Drew. They had a great game plan to attack the rim and get easy baskets and also completely shutdown Butler. "

  • 38 straight senior night wins is insane.

  • Combine that with 30 conference openers and you have some solid bookends.

  • I think it was Dickie V that I first heard say he wouldn’t want to be with a team facing Kansas in the tourney. This game proves that point. May be only the second thing I have agreed with Vitale on🤣

  • Since getting their asses handed to them by the Kansas City YMCA on February 3, 1899 by the score of 16 to 5, KU has 2,320 wins through the Baylor game based on NCAA statistics. Can you imagine 5 points for the entire game? Dr. Naismith didn’t have an auspicious first game. During that first season, KU played six games against YMCA teams, one against an athletic club and then games against Haskell, Independence, MO and William Jewell. I don’t know if the NCAA totals include games that weren’t played against colleges.

With only 8 wins this year, Kentucky’s total wins stands at 2,326. It only seems appropriate for KU to be the leader in all time wins. I look forward to the day when KU takes the lead.

  • Day after reflections on the game:

An important win for confidence and seeding. But, I wouldn’t put TOO much stock in it - the long lay-off clearly affected BU; they were very flat and their trey balls were consistently short.

Nonetheless, it probably locks in no worse than a 5 seed, more likely a 4, and possibly a 3, depending on what happens to others.

If we hadn’t given up the big lead against UT, a 3 seed would have been likely. And, we probably would have ended up 2nd in the conference standings at 13-5 (still could depending on the tough games WVU has remaining) and would have split against all the other better teams plus the sweep of TTU. And, we would have been at 20 wins heading into the post-season (assume we don’t throw-up against UTEP).

Dave came up big on the offensive end and with a big block on the other end - but, 3 rebounds when we were dominating on the glass and fouled out again.

The starters were 1-13 from 3. Repeating that kind of woeful performance could mean a quick tourney exit. On the other hand, if we can just get to the 30% range, we can play with and beat about anyone (not sure about the Zags or Wolverines). I would like to see HCBS run a couple of plays to get early 3 points look for CB - more so than Ochai. He’s been too passive offensively; although has made up for with his hustle and board work.

We got solid bench play - even maligned Mitch had a really good stretch. But, we can’t rely on Bryce and Juan to account for 2/3rds of made 3s.

This team still has serious flaws, but is playing better and the boys have stepped up on the defensive end - giving up just 0.8 points per possession over the past several games, and is up to 10th in Kenpom efficiency ratings.

While we could lose in the first round, I could also see an E8 or even FF run if we starting hitting anything from outside, primarily because this is really a down year for a lot of teams. While we may end up on the wrong side of the bracket, none of the projected 2 or 3 seeds are going to scare anyone (Iowa, Houston, Villanova???).

  • Some tidbits on this Sunday afternoon. - - CBS Sports shows us with a NET of - - -11 , – RPI of - - 15 - & our SOS of - - 11 . - - also KU has more wins against Ranked Opponents then anyone else this year as follows : - Kentucky , Creighton , Texas Tech - 2 times , West Virginia , Oklahoma State , Oklahoma , & Baylor

  • @DCHawker getting some early open shots from Braun would be nice. I am not sure if he has backed off on offense or if people are playing him tighter. When I watch him rather than the ball he often has someone on him like glue. He is driving a lot and that makes sense if they are covering him tighter or at least it feels that way

  • Coach Self is now 10-1 against AP top 5 ranked opponents at the Phog giving him the highest winning % by any Coach since 1948/ 1949 . The 2nd highest winning Coach ? - -Adolph Rupp 10-3.

Speaking of Adolph Rupp Kentucky fans all in a frazzle worried about how close we are to over taking them for the # 1 spot in all time Wins , we are 6 wins behind them right now. That’s pretty much all you see when you look at their boards - well that and them getting Cal out of Lexington

  • @DCHawker well said. I want to go at least 1 deeper than we are expected to, once we see the draw. If thats beating Gonzaga in S16, thatd be the sweetest possible way that plays out. Even getting in their bracket would be exciting. We arent a team built to go 6-0 but 3-0 feels achievable even against the WCC champ overall 1 seed.

  • @DCHawker

Espn had KU as a 3 seed going into the Baylor game yesterday. Imagine beating #2 and getting their 7th win against a ranked opponent at the time of playing them will have staying power as far as a 3 seed, 4 at worse

  • I’m still not convinced KU won’t flame out in the NCAA Tournament. Yesterday doesn’t change that KU is 1-7 away from AFH against at-large teams this season. KU’s offense is going to have to show something in KC during the B12 Tournament to show they can play a complete game against a quality opponent outside of AFH. That one road win was a game against an equally inept offensive team in Texas Tech where KU only scored 58 points for the game.

Can KU play a complete game against a quality team in KC? At this point, they haven’t shown that ability to do so which doesn’t bode well for the NCAA Tournament.

  • S16 at best still imo

ya I’m really still not convinced about that either. - -They have to bring the same kind of defensive intensity as they did last night to have a shot, I just don’t think with the way we have shot the 3 in our past several games that unless we find a way dig deep on the defensive that our offensive side is just too inconsistent. Whens the last time we’ve had a good night shooting the 3 - - I mean with Braun , Obaji & Wilson ALL having decent nights from the 3 we have got to be able to drain some 3’s to have a shot

Agree - - anything beyond that is icing on the cake for this year

  • Right now CBS sports has us as a # 4 - playing Liberty with Ohio State # 1 & Alabama #2 in our side. They have us if we win probably playing Creighton again.

  • Don’t think Ohio St is going to stay a 1-seed after losing 3 in a row and being blown out by Iowa today. There will be a lot of make-up games this week and seeds are going to move around. If Kansas takes care of UTEP and wins at least 1 game in the B12 tournament I think they’ll be a 3-seed. Winning one game in the B12 tournament probably won’t be easy though (if the tournament started today our first game would be against Texas). Long shot at a 2-seed if we win out and the teams ahead of us lose.

Who replaces Ohio St. on the 1 line though? Illinois took a bad loss last week, Alabama got blown out, Oklahoma took 2 bad losses, Villanova took a bad loss, Iowa got blown out this week, WVU doesn’t have the resume to move to a 1 seed.

I don’t know if OSU drops from the 1 line yet because of what’s happening everyone else behind them this week.

Gonzaga, Michigan, Houston, Arkansas, and Loyola-Chicago, are the only top 25 teams that didn’t lose a game this week.

  • West Virginia also didn’t lose this week.

Right now, Illinois or West Virginia would be my choice for the last 1-seed, particularly if either wins on Tuesday (Illinois plays Michigan, West Virginia plays Baylor). If I were seeding I’d probably go something like:

1’s - Gonzaga, Michigan, Baylor, Illinois

2’s - West Virginia, Ohio St, Alabama, Villanova

But it’s all going to change in the next few weeks so

Edit: Maybe swap Iowa for Villanova on the 2-line.

Well, obviously it would be Duke so ESPN will stay interested! I mean, duh… 🙃

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich Why does Illinois deserve to ahead of OSU at this point? They have very similar resumes, but Ohio St. has the head to head win at this point and that game was at Illinois.

If Illinois goes 2-0 this week which means winning in Ann Arbor and Columbus, then they have definitely have a very strong case for a 1 seed, but that head to head loss to Ohio St. still puts OSU over Illinois to me.

  • That’s great to hear. Keep them as your 1-seed then.

  • The 4th one seed no matter who is clearly on upset alert Early in the tournament. They would be 2,3 seeds in a normal yr
