  • @Kcmatt7

Had he been healthy I really doubt he would have still been here, wish I could find the quote from him talking about how the injuries changed his plans. However it’s been worth the ride to get to this point and I really do think he can anchor us all the way to April.

I just love watching him this season and he has really surpassed expectations especially on the defensive side of the ball. I really think the drop off next season in the post is going to be as noticeable as we have seen.

I hope the scouts come around to him

@Kcmatt7 Unanimous 1st team All-America does it for me, but I think it only takes 2nd team for Bill.

I do think it should take a lot to get your name up there. I don’t know if I’d have strict criteria, but it would certainly be more than what we’ve had lately…

  • @Kcmatt7

If Dotson ends the season as Big 12 POY, 1st team All American and final 4 MVP, delivers a title do you think he gets up there if he expectedly left after the season?

  • @Kcmatt7 And I’d certainly hear any arguments against him going up there.

  • @BeddieKU23 pretty sure final four mvp Is already considered as part of the criteria. I think it’s automatic.

  • @BeddieKU23 I think he’d belong up there no doubt about it. On top of that, he’s pacing for over 2,200 points. In comparison, Marcus just went up and he was pacing to barely eclipse 2,000.

With guys leaving early you almost have to just look at what they would have projected out to be I think. Of course they have to have accolades. I don’t think anyone should get hung just for being the first pick after a 1st weekend flameout.

  • I don’t think projections should go into it. It should only be about body of work while at KU. IMHO

I’m not for considering post NCAA careers either i.e. Tebow should be retired at Florida, but he sucked in the nfl and Embiid should not be retired- everything he’s accomplished has been in the nba.

  • @dylans I agree with this unless there was some absolutely ridiculous post ku accolades. Like say we have a one or two and done who goes on to win multiple nba mvps and championships and is talked about like Kobe, Lebron, MJ, Wilt etc. A once in generational type talent. Put him or her up there.

  • I think it’s a no brainer at this point. Doke will be drafted late first round or early second round. Him getting in the weight room this summer is a big reason why. He’s been quicker to the ball, quicker with post moves and blocking/altering more shots. He also has improved his FT shooting, not great at this point but his shot looks better and he’s had solid games from the line. He is currently averaging career highs ft%, assists, rebounds and blocks. Bout the only stat is he behind in is FG% and points. Those numbers could go up with a few big games his points are just .6 off and FG% is a little bit deceiving with how much more his is shooting this season.

Final Four MOP was an original criteria and consensus 1st team All-American is part of the expanded criteria. Since Marcus just went up, I’m guessing conference POY is now part of the criteria as well now.

I’m torn on that one because Marcus would’ve been the only KU player to win Big 8/12 POY and not be in the rafters. KU has had a surprisingly low number of conference POY’s from what I’ve found.

1956-57 was the first year the Big 8/12 POY was given and was not awarded between the 1959-60 to 1966-67 season’s. Here is the list of KU players to win the award:

    Dave Robisch x2 (1970, 1971)

    Bud Stallworth (1972)

    Danny Manning x3 (1986-1988)

    Jacque Vaughn (1996)

    Raef LaFrentz x2 (1997, 1998)

    Drew Gooden (2002)

    Nick Collision (2003)

    Wayne Simien (2005)

    Marcus Morris (2011)

    Thomas Robinson (2012)

    Frank Mason (2017)

    Devonte Graham (2018)

That’s only 12 different KU players to win conference POY so I would consider that a big achievement considering KU’s history and some names that never won the award like Paul Pierce or Sherron Collins that a lot of people would probably assume won that award at some point. All those other names besides Marcus are either already in the rafters or will go up one day so I don’t have a huge issue with it, but get the argument against him.

  • Does Doke pass the Withey smell test for the NBA?

    Hell yes.

  • @BeddieKU23 I hope that he is on pace to get his degree.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I can’t believe Pierce didn’t win POY.

  • @Marco LaFrentz was a beast and gobbled up those awards.

  • @Marco

Dotson? He’ll have to come back and finish.

    Doke will graduate

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

It will be interesting to see what Self does with Devon. He’s the front runner for Conference POY and I think he has a great shot at 1st team All-American which at minimum gives him two possible boxes checked. Then whatever happens in March, the possibility of a F4 MVP & Title run… All from what is expected, a 2 year player. In this Century Gooden, Morris & Robinson played 3 years here. Dotson would be breaking the mold if he leaves after the season and gets put up there at some point. Of course its premature to know without seeing how the awards & postseason goes.

  • I’m not sure why POY in a conference would matter in the grand scheme of things. It could be a consideration, but shouldn’t meet the total requirement. It’s just too small of a sample and allows for down years to produce such greats as Venson Hamilton and Tony Allen as poy. Neither was even close to 1st team AA. If you’re not one of the 5 best players in basketball you’re not one of the all time greats for KU (probably are at Nebraska though) unless you manage a top 10-15 (2nd 3rd team) finish multiple years. There are a ton of very good players at KU; I love them all, but not all are special enough for the rafters. Hopefully the standards go back up.

  • There are two relevant questions concerning Doke and the NBA.

First… will he be drafted? I think he will. Second, will he stick enough to earn a contract? That is a real mystery.

I think the stats concerning what happens when Doke is on the floor versus not is pretty much irrelevant with pro scouts. The D1 game is completely different from NBA.

Doke still has glaring weaknesses. His FT% by itself almost removes him from hope of making it. NBA is business. Poke a Doke will become a huge factor because the numbers tell opponents to foul him, and they have deep benches and a lot of fouls to give. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I bet the points per possession in the league is much higher than college. That makes it an obvious strategy to foul Doke.

I’m also not 100% sure he can keep up with the pace of the NBA game. His condition is so much better than before, but the pro game moves faster than college. The real key is to know how Doke’s pace compares to other 5s in the league.

Another question… will Doke finish at the rim at the same high percentage as he does in college? Not sure about that. I’m wondering how Doke finishes against Jojo.

The bright side for Doke is his age and how fast he has improved in such a short time. Might he still develop his game and FT shooting? Yes!

My only prediction is this: you will not see Doke playing pro ball and shooting FTs like he does now. He’ll have to improve to see any possible minutes in the league.

  • If Dok were a flawless pro prospect he would’ve left after year 2 (age restriction or oad). I think he’s the perfect college guy - four year player and improved every year. Unfortunately you don’t get 4 year guys that aren’t flawed or late bloomers anymore, but Dok’s been a joy to watch grow. I have a hard time seeing him playing more than 10 minutes a game in the nba, but that doesn’t lessen my enjoyment of him in crimson and blue.

I don’t think anyone here is down on Dok, but I do hope we take the time to enjoy him before he’s gone. Best damn senior we’ve had since… Graham and before that Mason. What?!? Glorious seniors in the age of OADs!!! We are spoiled.

  • Thread seems relevant.

  • What Doke has done to his body and game is absolutely phenomenal.

He played 36 minutes today which is just unbelievable.

  • In all the years we have talked about Doke’s “ potential”, this game was what most of us, the glass half- full ones, had envisioned … I’m not sure I’ve seen a better game from him. Against the number #1 team in the country at their house. Wow. I love being a Kansas fan 🙂 today was another great day of KU Nation.

For me, completely depressing that all the talk here is about Doke’s chances to stick in the National Boring Association. I’m glad that he has blossomed into a great COLLEGE player. For me I wish him the best, whether it’s going into the meat-grinder schlepathon of the interminable NBA season, or overseas. He will make money wherever he goes, barring injury. He is a good guy, and he will always be a Jayhawk!!!

And… I was a bit worried about whether or not our boys were gelling into a real band of brothers… One of Baylor’s big advantages is their self-less team unity, and I think we are there too. We can win it all this year.

Right now I sure could use a long invigorating post from Jaybate to cap off this day. Somebody get ahold of him and tell him to get to work, please

  • Best Big Man game since Collison v. Texas. Now I realize why Garrett leads the team in assist.

  • Don’t need 3’s when 2’s r that easy 🤣

  • I said this on another thread but today Dokes draft stock went up.

  • Boom…!!! And Fury wins the fight. The weirdo that is Wilder should be checked into a racist mental hospital (using black history month - never been a fan of any month propogating a race, anyway - to propogate that mask wearing crap?) after being admitted to a regular one. He is a straight-up racist weirdo. Wish that I could watch him getting knocked out four times a day.

  • The Baylor game was good, too.

  • Doke Dunk Watch.

Tied with Obi Toppin for most dunks with 89

He is 33 dunks away from his own record for a season

He is 13 dunks away from breaking the NCAA record held by Tacko Fall.

No doubt the NCAA record will fall. , actually he will shatter that. - - you figure only 13 dunks , we have 4 regular season game left that’s only like a smidge over 3 a game and that’s just regular season games. - Then you have the post Season Big 12 tourney & then the NCAA tourney - -he will destroy that fir sure. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

    93 dunks.

He needs 9 dunks for the record for a career

  • @BeddieKU23 So over under 2 games for those nine dunks?

Hopefully under, he gets it on Saturday. I just hope our guys survive Saturday without injury.

  • @BeddieKU23 I’d imagine David is going to get some significant hacks. Dotson and Garrett will be put to the floor a few times. I really hope they don’t cheap shot Doke as he wasn’t really involved and is on such an upswing. He can take some good hard fouls and does EVERY game. Also, I would be very afraid to foul Doke too hard. He is so scary strong.

  • Alphabetic order for the win!!

  • @BeddieKU23 that’s beautiful.

  • Sprained right ankle for Doke. CRAP. questionable for Wednesday and I would say this has the potential to ruin a lot of things if he cant get back 100%

  • I know it’s Senior night but I would rest him. We should be able to best TCU without him.
