  • Pollard is on my list of favorite 3 point shooters.

  • I’d take wiggs and Benny mac. I have to many, can’t do 10. I loved wiggs, I know not many on here are fans, he was our best defender too.

  • @HighEliteMajor That was my favorite game of the Roy Williams era. We POUNDED UNLV. When UNLV went on to win the national championship, I kept thinking if only we had made it that far, the championship would’ve been ours…

  • My all knucklehead team: Tyshawn, Carlton Bragg, Vick…twice, EJ, Cliff Alexander. Who am I missing?

    Greene and Tharpe.

@approxinfinity Final Four. One got KU there, one player cost KU one.

I’d argue EJ was a big reason we made the Final in 2012 though. I did very much appreciate EJ, and that he played out of position for us and was money in that tournament. I think he also played hurt a large part of his time at Kansas

  • @approxinfinity true, but the last thing he did in a Kansas uniform was a huge disappointment. I really liked EJ too, but that was beyond stupid. Unfortunately he didn’t have a chance to atone.

Since I became a Jaywhawk in '85. Danny, and then everyone else. I’m not sure if people who didn’t watch him day in and day out realize how good of a player he was. At the time people were comparing his skill set with Magic Johnson. Of course Danny didn’t have the flair of Magic, but he was every bit as good in college. After the great players of '86 left, Danny carried that team maybe like no other player ever has since Wilt. I’d put Pierce at 2, Chalmers at 3 for his clutch gene, Collison, then Frank, then Kirk, then Simien, then Joel, then Sherron, and oh I guess Brandon Rush last in my top 10. But we’ve had so many to choose from!

Boy , I’m right there with you for sure about Danny. - Danny was a real pleasure to watch , and as you said he just took that team on his shoulders and carried us to that 88 Championship.

I mean sure the others played important roles that night , but they knew their roles - - I remember Clint Normore hitting that big shot from the top of the key - -But it was all about Danny that night he carried/wiled that team - - remember - - The Announcers I believe Billy Packer – which by the way was a guy I personally enjoyed as a Color commentator - -but during that Game he kept saying how he didn’t think KU wanted to get into a running game with Oklahoma , Remember? - - -50-50 half time score?

Danny was a SPECIAL player " Danny and the Miracles " ok, my memory lapse is kicking in here - -Wasn’t Turgeon our PG for that team? -That was another gutsy little kid from Topeka Hayden.

Heard stories about when he went to KU an just walked ino Coach Browns office and said I’m the best PG you got - -gutsy lol - -ahhh those were the days - - -ROCK CHALK ALLD AY LONG BABY

Ok, Top Ten non-studs, but great Kansas players – lunch pail, blue collar, bleed crimson and blue. Here are my top 10: 1) Jeff Graves, 2) Kevin Young, 3) Clint Normore, 4) Nick Bradford, 5) Landon Lucas, 6) Patrick Richey, 7) Conner Teahan, 8 ) Chris Piper, 9) Tyrel Reed, 10) Jamari Traylor. (I love Tarik Black, but just had him one season).

Mercy how time flies. - I’m almost ashamed to admit but - - -I have almost forgot about some of these and these guys I liked also - -just time I reckon - -I guess the one I had forgotten about was Richey - -the kid when he was hot could shoot the rock - real string bean right? - - 6’8 he was out of Kansas City area right?

Another two that I thought about that I would put in a top ten non stud would be: - - - Calvin ( Pony ) Thompson - -And Ronnie Kellogg - -mercy could Ronnie ever shoot the ball dam - -left handed too sweet had such a sweet shot - -Him and Calvin together was nice

Anyone remember Mark Randall? He was really good in his day.

I remember Mark - -he was solid/bigger player - like 6’9 if I remember right

Tell you some others I liked - - I liked the Knight Brothers, - - you remember them? - - Danny and Kelly both. - you remember?

@wissox That’s when I realized what a genius Roy Williams was as a coach. He took a marginal talent, taught the guy to seal off his man in the post, and make the easy layup. He became a force on our team. That’s some great coaching with that one.

Mark was with Coach Williams? - - I thought he was before that - - -my bad – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @dylans I loved EJ too. I’m not big on calling them out, some things were on their parents.

  • For the young folks who might not know or remember. Check out the “Miracles” who did a great job supporting Danny! https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/kansas/1988.html

  • @KUSTEVE I forget who it was but someone got kicked off the 88 championship team. That’s all time knucklehead there. Clint Normore went from an anonymous KU football player to a semi legendary basketball player because of it. The Morris bros were semi knuckleheads as well.

  • @jayballer73 Turgeon was already gone by '88. Danny was the point guard, small forward, shooting guard, power forward and center on that team.

  • @hawkmoon2020 Nice link. Player I referenced above all knucklehead Lincoln Minor. Wow, he was 0-17 on 3’s before getting booted. I’d boot him too!

@Jayballer54 Kevin Pritchard was primarily the point guard.

LMAO – ya Danny was whatever he wanted to be - -and nobody would say nothing – thanks about Turg - -couldn’t remember for sure - not by that much though was he? - - who was our Pg then - -I can picture him just can’t remember his name. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • No love for Langford?

  • @jayballer73 When I started following KU basketball, Dave Robish was our center. I remember them playing Villanova in the NCAA tournament on tv, and I was really impressed with Dave. I became a KU fan instantly. That was the first KU game I had ever seen.

We had some bad luck too … Archie Marshall hurt, Marvin Branch ineligible. I saw the mention of Lincoln Minor. Remember Otis Livingston? He was supposed to be a factor. There was another guy who was ineligible I think too. All the bad luck was really good luck. Just amazing.

OK let’s go down memory lane- pretty sure I am older - - but anyways - -do you my friend or anybody else remember when they played a game for 3rd in the NCAA tourney? - - I do - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 We played UCLA in the consolation game (3rd) in 1974. IIRC, Bill Walton thought it was dumb to have that game, but played enough to make it not a close contest.

  • @rockchalkwyo Dedric was the best player on the team - not counting players who were injured or otherwise ineligible. Dotson was not far behind imo. He has the skills and uses them but I think he isn’t as ‘athletic’ as other top PFs For him to earn a spot on an NBA team, he will need a team that would allow him time for strength and conditioning.

I also think about next year’s bigs and how Self will use them. I’d like to see how he spreads out their minutes and what combinations Self will deploy. Regardless, Silvio is going to be a beast next year. I cant wait to see him take out his frustration on the rest of the BIG12.

  • Texas Hawk 10: that was a well thought out post. Well worth the time it took to read.

  • @wissox I put Randall on my list but left out Greg Dreiling. Too many players to choose from.

  • @jhawk7782 you still in Miami?

  • How about Top10 busts?

you are exactly right. - -I remember listening to it on the radio - - thought I was the only one old enough to even remember listening to that when they still had that lol

  • @jhawk7782 Is that Miami Florida… or Miam(a) Oklahoma?

  • @HighEliteMajor Archie Marshall getting hurt cost us the title that year, because we were the best team until then.

  • Marco said:

    1. Raquel Welch, 2) Emily Ratajowski, 3) Sofia Vergara, 4) Marilu Henner, 5) Phoebe Cates … no, wait …

  • This post is deleted!

  • @HighEliteMajor Marilu Henner? I think not.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I wish. I’m up near NYC. I was in the USCG at the time and worked at a few night clubs in the mid to late 80s. I taught school in Hialeah for a couple of years before getting an opportunity I couldn’t refuse.

    Should have stayed in Miami.

  • KUSTEVE said:

@HighEliteMajor Marilu Henner? I think not.

Oh I think so. Natural beauty. But I was a Valerie Bertinelli guy too.

  • @wissox Richard Scott one of my all-time favorite people. Got to work with many of them from ‘90 to ‘96. Ostertag was a genuine character too.

  • @Kubie Keith Lankford- the forgotten southpaw. We win if he’s not hurt and taken out by poor reffing.

  • @KUSTEVE Ohio!!

Tyshawn? I thought Tyshawn was great! He could have put up a lot better career numbers if we had connected him with Lucas sooner… like after his freshman year.

I thought Tyshawn had a very good senior year, once he got coached up properly.

  • EJ was a sacrificial lamb at KU. Talk about a guy giving himself unselfishly to a program. He’s one of my all-time favs at KU because he never really complained about anything. If he had an ounce of prima donna in him he would have transferred.

I’ll never forget when he dropped 39 on ISU in their racist arena. I know it impressed the sh*t out of Self. I’m pretty sure he actually teared up at the end of that one.

  • @Bwag Agree on Richard Scott. Which game are you referring to with Langford hurt and poor officiating?

  • HighEliteMajor said:

Amazing how our program savior (Andrew Wiggins) isn’t on ANYONE’S list.

And no Josh Jackson. No X. No Selby. No Cliff. No Grimes.

Another that sticks out — No Selden.

Uncle Anthony gets special consideration for being that uncle. Priceless. If Wayne stayed his final year might have been on someone’s list

  • @HighEliteMajor That’s so weird - EVERY one of them is on my list.

Of people we should have never recruited.
