Tristan Enaruna is a Jayhawk
-
6-foot-10, 205 pounds? He needs to be Hudyized!
-
Ok, I’m out of hibernation. My apologies to HEM for some reckless comments I made last year during the heat of the battle. I will try to do better. Thank you to BShark for just being him, and keeping us up to date with the recruiting battles. I guess you can take me off the lost and found list. I’m glad you were wrong about Enaruna. I like his rim protection as much as anything. The fact that he’s from the Netherlands normally means high fundamental Euro skills - he seems to be quite talented with the ball, with a REALLY sweet 3 point shot.Teams are going to play hell driving the ball to the rim with Doke and Tristan covering the rim. I like this dude. We manage to bring in Hampton, and get Dotson back, and we could make a serious run for the roses next year. Beautiful get.

Welcome back - - missed my buddy. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer73 Thanks, man. I was going to come back for the RJ to KU announcement, but he’s not declaring until the end of May. Plus, I am real excited about Tristan coming aboard. I really like his game because we don’t have to use him down low with Doke coming back, and he can create mismatches away from the basket. love that kid!
I like his foot speed, his handles, his jump shot, his passing ability, his rim protection… He’s a skinny as a rail, and needs some of that world famous Kansas beef on his bones ( Hudy ). Here are some highlights:
-
Imagine that dumbass BShark thinking he was going to Creighton LOL.

Agree. Skilled for a 4, can’t really play the 3 tbh.

Jeez, what a moron, that BShark. That was a dark recruitment though. Never heard a peep from anyone about it. But yeah, I agree he’s not really a 3. You are what you can guard and I’m not sure he’s got the lateral agility to stay with 3’s. Plus we’re playing Tucker and Ochai there anyway hehehe
-
@FarmerJayhawk Yeah it was weird. Complete radio silence for over a week after the visits and then BAM announcement with ZERO fanfare.
-
Are you feeling it, guys? It took awhile for me to get a handle on this weird recruiting cycle but I really feel it now… Enaruna - check! Hampton, Tucker and Holyfield step right up…
-
So… How many years at KU is tristan projected???. 3 or (gulp)… 4 years?

3 or 4 would be my guess. Probably won’t have a big impact next year.
-
@KUSTEVE He is going to be an immediate, versatile contributor who has a chance in two to three years to be an absolute beast.
-
It might be just because they look almost identical, but he’s got some Cam Johnson to his game. Not near the shooter yet, but that may come
-
He’s an exciting prospect. Not anywhere close to a finished one but I think he can surprise some his freshman year. You can’t teach that size with those skills. I hope we get 3 years but that may not be an option

Might be that B-Greene role next year where you bring him off the bench when the offense is stalled out just to space the floor.
But yea I expect him to be a starter probably his junior and senior years.

I don’t think it will be that long if he gels with Self’s system.
-
@BeddieKU23 He doesn’t appear to be a huge knucklehead like Greene and I think he is actually a good fit.

Enaruna says he is 6’9’’.
With his stats you have to keep in mind that Wasatch has 7-8 D1 guys.
-
And he didn’t start most of the time
-
How much does he play his freshman year?10 minutes a game if we get Silvio back? Seems like Holyfield would eat those if he commits.
-
Does his commitment affect Holyfield’s at all?
-

NO

Cant see that being the case
-
I think the Holyfield decision will depend more on De Sousa’s eligibility than Enaruna. If De Sousa is eligible, that eats up 20-25 minutes at a minimum on that front line. With Doke getting 25 minutes as well, Mitch probably getting 10 or so and McCormack also getting some time, the minutes are getting really thin up front. And that doesn’t account for a single second of time for Enaruna.
Without De Sousa, there are plenty of minutes for Enaruna and Holyfield. With him, there really aren’t.
-
I’m thinking Dotson/RJ/Ochai/Tristan/Doke.
-
I thought Holyfield was going to TT…didn’t he play for Beard at SFA?
-
Great catch! Welcome to Jayhawk land… Tristan!
I always get excited to see a kid over 6’3" with real handles! And foot speed!
I hope he never plays the 4 in a Jayhawk uniform. He moves like a 2, and I can see him being able to play PG to 3, and 4 in an emergency.
I don’t buy the 6’10" size… think he is 6’7" or 6’8" but still growing.
Could he become the next Durant? Time will tell…
-
Underwood. Illinois is one of his finalists too
-
@drgnslayr - Wasatch Academy says he has a 7’ wingspan at 6’10”. FWIW…
-
Unique prospect. Is ambidextrous. Just recently in the past year or two focused on shooting right handed. Definitely plays above the rim. His skills if developed fit well in the modern NBA
-
Tristan himself says he’s 6’9. About a month ago on TV he looked 6’8 max.
-
To be honest… the wingspan is what is most important anyways. I did some searching and found his size to be 6’8", but who knows when that was recorded.
Looking at the video in this thread, he sure doesn’t look 6’10", but the vid could be 6 months old and he grew 2 or 3 inches.
Tall kids with his high level of coordination usually means they put on some late inches. I mentioned Durant specifically because I recall him growing late.
-
@drgnslayr Anthony Davis was that way too. He was like 6’2 as a freshman.
-
I’m a lot more excited about this kid than many of the 5-star guys we’ve signed in the past. I lived a long time in the Netherlands… some solid fundamentals but what is most impressive is the intelligence of the players. We won’t be worrying about this kid’s grades or having him come around slow to “Self ball.”
-
And we think WE are excited?!!!
-
@drgnslayr He reminds me, at first glance, of Kelly Oubre.
-

We are in big trouble if Enaruna is starting imo.
Excited for him long term however.
-
@BShark Is he that far behind?

I don’t think we want him playing more than 10 minutes a game. The tools are there he just needs time in Bill’s oven.
That said I fully expect KU to have better options available.
-
@KUSTEVE He may come in and be better than I expect. But, I think he will need to add some strength and learn to play against other guys that are also 6’10. Mainly being able to rebound and defend against them.
-
I was thinking 4 out. I know we have played MG at the 4 for stretches. Stick that kid on the wing, and let him shoot, while RJ and DD drive the paint, and dump the ball into Doke…
-
Tristan reminds me a bit of a Georges Niang who can stay on his feet.
-
Niang was also 6-5 but listed as 6-10 in his playing heels

I think he is going to have issues with fouls as a freshman though. With how skinny his is, he’ll have to foul just to keep guys from scoring too easy in the paint.
Give him a year and I think your wish comes true.
-
As someone noted above, it’s interesting how (in his highlight reel) he shoots many of his floaters left handed. Can’t remember ever seeing that before in a college player. How nice that must be as a player! It would be super hard to defend him when he’s attacking the basket. I’m super excited to see him in action!
-
CALM DOWN BILL
-
Wiggins? Come on Bill. That’s laying it on a weeeeeeee bit thick.
-
@FarmerJayhawk It’s just going to create unrealistic expectations from more casual fans tbh.
