I miss Jaybate, I miss last year.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 No dook will be vacating the title they win this april lol

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 No silly, we’re going to win this year and have to vacate! I forgot about Louisville vacating.

  • Some of the disagreement’s that raged between Jaybate and the others were his defense of two players that many on this site detested whenever they were in the game. Many often stated that it was time to get rid of Self. I think that the argument’s that took place were caused by how each one of us felt after a loss or how each of us would bitch because we didn’t win by a lot more. Jaybate always had his side and the others, well, they were the others. Jaybate felt recently that Self had betrayed him and the school that he loves. His heart was broken by Self and his response was incredible anger at this betrayal, and by what made his 15 years of praise, now ring hollow.

  • @wrwlumpy so lump, have you talked to him?

  • Soooo…while I to miss the ramblings of one Jaybate, I will concede that after more than 30 years of being a Jayhawks fan, this year has taken a toll on me. I’m fully expecting a probation ruling next season and all the fixins associated with it including limited recruiting trips, scholarships…blah, blah, blah. I’m also fully expecting 2017-18 season to be erased from the books. So that was my rock bottom…no big deal. I’ll root for these kids, wish nothing but the best for them and continue to hate Weber, Shaka, Big Dixon, Huggs, Prohm, Drew, Boynton, Beard and Marsha (just because. I like Kruger, so I’ll always root for that guy unless he’s facing the Jayhawks) …until now. Until I read what I’m praying to the good lord in heaven is merely click bait…

    https://bustingbrackets.com/2019/02/20/kansas-basketball-lamelo-ball-end-jayhawk-2019-20/

If this happens, I throw my hands up in the air, give up, and redistribute my fanhood to my alma mater and division II bottom dwelling school and use the Jayhawks as my…“oh, that’s nice they won” outlet.

  • @bmensch1 It has been a really rough year and it has made me question if I should ever watch college athletics again. I don’t watch much professional sports because I believe it to be fixed. I feel like college basketball and football are broken and broken badly, I have my doubts they’ll ever get repaired. It’s like world gets a little worse every year.

  • @bmensch1

Ha ha. I read that article about LaMelo Ball. I don’t put any stock into what comes out of the mouths of the Ball clan, especially considering their reality show goings on. And no way that kid ever gets cleared to play.

But, if KU were actually entertaining the notion of lighting that powder keg, potential NCAA sanctions would be the least of my concerns. I’d solidly begin to question the sanity and the mental faculties of those in charge. At that point, I’d commit them all, clean the slate and rebuild from scratch.

  • @tis4tim …And if it were true and Ball became a Jayhawk and led us to the National Championship - how would we feel then?

  • KU is not recruiting LaMelo.

I think I know who many and others is.

I liked Brady, but I wasn’t here or at KUsports when he was playing.

In any case, as much as I argued about it* with Jaybate I am in fact sad to read that he has become disillusioned.

*It being the fact that Self played the shoe game too.

  • @nuleafjhawk If I fell 150 feet down a well, hopefully I wouldn’t feel anything!

    I’d feel vacated.

If you did feel well, you wouldn’t feel well.

  • @Kcmatt7 Health issues can take up a whole lot of time and energy and during the last year I’ve seen my share. Hadn’t logged on until I posted the pic from the UT game. Have kept up with the team but not in the same intense way I had before always going to this site first. My life changed so much with not just my health but the loss of my husband that it does cause you to reassess what you want and how you move forward. I think I quit coming here right after the Final Four loss to Villanova. I saw first hand what that loss meant to the team. I knew the ugly posts were going to come and I just couldn’t force myself to read all that vitriol to kids who were hurting as bad as all of us. Sometimes people expect way too much from the team and coaches. I just chose to not have that negativity in my life.

Now I’m sad to hear that @jaybate-1-0 has taken leave. I do pray that he has peace and health in his life.0_1550860498038_wavethewheat.jpg

  • @RockChalkinTexas just know we care

  • @RockChalkinTexas love the pic

  • @RockChalkinTexas My wife and I still take inspiration from your grace in handling everything. (As we have with Red Rooster’s caring for his wife in her mysterious malady.) I certainly understand the desire for a more level perspective than comment boards sometimes display!

Wishing you well in your own recovery, and hoping that the team can bring some joy to you soon!

Well said. I was caring for a dying relative for awhile until he passed in November 2017. The last year in particular was very difficult without getting into too many details. The personal care was taking just about every last bit of free time I had.

Also wishing a good recovery to you @RockChalkinTexas

  • All I can say is JB stuck us with the ultimate “I told you so” when the shoe dropped on Adidas… even though it is a dark cloud on Kansas basketball. He understood the real influence of shoe money.

He coined so much of the jargon on the shoe situation. My favorite; “ShoeCos”

He’ll be back someday… when he runs dry on margarita mix.

  • If posters enjoy the broad assortment of comments from posters here, next time you’re tempted to demean, criticize, denounce or insult another poster for their comment, please don’t post it. Everyone’s entitled to make their comments, some heartfelt and some written off the cuff. While I won’t speculate on JBate’s absence, I know everyone on here has just about left the site due to someone’s critical, hurtful post. For those posters who like to debate and call others out, that may still be done but requires tact and careful editing after typing your original post. I would like to see buckets expand to include more posters, but the fear of criticism by know-it-all posters keeps more people from joining us.

  • @stoptheflop Well done! And said.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 what email ?

  • Spent a lot of time visiting with him On the PM side over the last 6-7 years. We visited about basketball, life, favorite books, authors, scientists, military and empirical strategies and greatness and how it takes on so many forms. Would always take the summer off and focus on coaching but we’d pick up right where we left off in the fall. Unfortunately, he never responded this fall when i sent my First message. Hope he is well. Always wanted to meet him and drink some coffee or brews—the most intellectual person I’ve never met. Even if you didn’t always agree. Guess he will always remain a Great Mystery.

  • @Blown click on his avi and you can see it, might not be real.

  • intersting choice of pictures … I love a lot of former and current players, but my favorite KU player in the last 15 years is the guy pictured on the right up a few threads… I’m with JB on that guy, and remember his writing and opinions. no real rhyme or reason as to why it transpires that a certain player gets to you, it just is what it is… my love of the team and of certain guys has no real basis in stats or rational conclusions. and yes I remember the arguing and the vitriol about #31. But passion is the real basis for why we are all here, and JB had a LOT of it.

  • @RockChalkinTexas I’ve felt just like you with my heart problems. I wondered why we were preseason number 1 when no one in the country really knew anything about us. Then came the scandal and the Sainthood of our coaching staff was vanquished. Then the loss of all our players one at a time made me start to turn off the television when we would be down by double digits on the road and know that this team was talented but that it was just too young. No one blames the players. Coach also did the best he could do.

Like you and me, we will heal, and so will Kansas Basketball. I will watch the tournament, but right now, we all are in recovery.

I’m not writing here much anymore. I might do a preview pictorially like I used to do with unknown schools and campus’s during the NCAA, but now, …meh…

I’ve missed you. Let’s both look forward to the magic of KU Basketball.

Lassie and Timmy would find you. You’ll be OK!

  • @Gorilla72 More likely, Eddie Haskell would come by my sound stage and throw rocks.

  • @Bosthawk So do you think that Jaybate is catfishing Duke fans now? Who might be next, Kentucky, UNC?

  • Nice thread. Been a board rat (changed monikers once) from the LJW days. Jaybate (and a few others like HEM) consistently had the in-depth and specifically KU oriented basketball knowledge that kept me coming back. Living in St. Louis a very MU town, it was a nice little Jayhawk haven to learn not just more about my favorite team, but about the game itself. As a bonus, I also felt that I got to “meet” some interesting people as often posts revealed the personalities of the posters. I enjoyed the sense of community here along with the deep wells of knowledge.

Some of the early jaybate posts were really something. Admittedly, I skipped through many of the later mini-novellas about war or conspiracies, and he was a wee bit on the defensive side, but this forum is decidedly less colorful and less unique without him and I too wish he would return.

  • @StLJhawk I snuck back to some of your first posts and discovered that one of the topics being discussed in 2016 was Doke’s abysmal 33% FT rate, and whether underhand form would help.

The world changes little, it seems!

  • @mayjay

I used JhawkinTigrtown, or something like that before I got locked out of it one day and created this account. But, lol, yes unfortunately some things that should change just don’t. Man, it’s still just painful to watch Doke on the line, I feel bad for him (and us!)

  • Banned

I’m amused that some have taking the stance that jaybate came across as being superior in his monologues and posts. Did you ever think maybe you just felt inferior?
