Latest NBA Mock Draft

  • No Hawks in the 1st round. No Surprise, Grimes stock has tanked since Game 1. Dedric has held steady as a likely 2nd round pick. Dotson hasn’t really moved either from his late 2nd grade right now. Doke’s injury has pushed him out.

    Grimes #37

    Dedric #41

    Dotson #58

Doke- No longer in Top 100

    Other Big-12 guys:

    Jarrett Culver #8 -Texas Tech

    Jaxson Hayes#12- Texas

    Talen-Horton-Tucker#19- Iowa St

  • Interesting, I wouldn’t figure any of our guys would go or be that high. I could see Dedric going from the stand point that should have a degree by the end of the season and he isn’t going to improve his status any. That Hayes kid has a ton of potential but I think he could be a top 5 pick in the next draft. I think Dook is gonna end up 3 of the first 5 picks prob atleast 3 of the first 10.

  • @kjayhawks

I actually think what we’ve seen from Dedric so far he could improve his stock coming back. Especially the lack of a consistent perimeter shot that he’s shown so far at KU and before at Memphis. He’s also struggled defensively in pick and roll and guarding stretch defenders. I think we know his limits as an explosive athlete. I’d like to see Hudy get one more off-season with him, she’s got a good track record of taking guys going into the Senior year and finding that little extra out of them. I don’t expect he comes back but I do think there are legitimate areas Dedric can improve his game with another season here.

  • @BeddieKU23 you think dads happy w/kj’s development?

  • @BeddieKU23 I would say the only thing I see him legitimately improving on his is perimeter shooting. He maybe able to improve his lateral quickness some but I’m sure he’s been worked with a ton in that category and I think he’s is what he is. I could see Dedric returning if we get bounced early in March and would be happy to be wrong but I don’t see it.

Probably not. I’m still hopeful he can help this team this year but with Ochai jumping him in the rotation he certainly feels like the odd man out

  • @BeddieKU23 could both Lawson’s graduate?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Yes I believe they could. Both are technically on their 4th years in school.

  • @BeddieKU23 wonder if they’d go to Memphis?

  • @BeddieKU23 It’s just one mock, but I think it makes two points fairly compellingly - first, that regardless of how the rest of the season plays out, this is a pretty good coaching job by Self given the paucity of NBA caliber talent on the team; and, second, the paucity of NBA talent in the league as a whole is probably why B12 teams don’t do as well in the NCAA tournament as conference rankings and seedings would otherwise suggest.

  • I tend to follow nbadraft.net…It was updated wednesday and Doke is the only one listed in 2019…but 2020 revealed a new name. Agbaji at number 12.

  • @bmensch1 No Dotson though. What makes them project other 6’2 and under Freshmen to go but not Dotson?

  • @approxinfinity Higher volume outside shooting, perhaps?

  • I’d like to see all our guys succeed of course, but selfishly i’d like to see them all stick around for four years – or more.

As for Dotson, i don’t see him as a major NBA prospect just yet. Hope he’s around for a few more years. The only skill we’ve really seen him display is quickness to the bucket. Great. no complaints, but it’s not like he’s got a yo-yo handle and is leaving guys with broken ankles. Hasn’t really shown much shooting either. OK, toughness on D. But, it’s the NBA, defense is optional, right?

Again, love the guy, but i don’t see him competing in the NBA next season.

  • @bmensch1 Self does have NBA talent though. Doke, Dedric, Grimes, Dotson, and even Vick. All have a chance to play in the NBA. None of them guaranteed though. And this Agbaji thing is going to be interesting as it plays out.

  • Dotson isn’t ready until he starts passing better. His shooting form is also very long and starts very low. He is also not a dominant defender. I wouldn’t project him to succeed in the NBA yet. Will have to improve all over before he gets an honest look.

  • All of our guys are slightly flawed for the NBA. Which is good for us lol. Next years returning team could be stacked. Of course, I thought the same thing this season… we are good but not near as good as I had projected.

  • @Kcmatt7 Worse players have went pro. I hope he stays though, and his family situation is pretty good. I really don’t want to see next year’s team w/o Dotson. I think he is the most crucial of players that would go either way.

It’s great when they stay but tough for recruiting because kids don’t know what will happen.

I’m worried he gets a 1st round guarantee by a late round team. But I just don’t see him as an immediate impact player for an NBA team so my guess is he won’t get one. Definitely the most important player for next season though.

  • If anyone in the NBA signs Dedric they need to be fired. He is the most athletically challenged good player I’ve seen in a long time. He’d look so damn slow in the NBA.

  • The Lawson boys dad can’t complain about KJs minutes today, tho he was a big factor in the loss. He played as much as Ochai, Lightfoot and David combined.

  • Here is Johnathan Givony’s latest top 100 players. He has Dedric at 42, Devon at 67, and Q at 69.
