BREAKING: TCU’s Jaylen Fisher will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season and will not return to the program, per release. Significant Big 12 news.

  • Lots of attrition for TCU. Dixon is kind of like Bill without the tournament success.

  • Damn. The Big 12 as a whole has had some significant injuries this year.

  • Man that sucks.

  • About my previous comment, Fisher is the 4th!!! player to leave TCU mid season this year.

  • I believe Fisher’s injury probably has more to do with him not coming back right? This may be something he can’t continue to play on going forward. We’ll see though the kid is definitely talented enough to play somewhere else if he can get those issues behind him

  • @BShark This one isn’t surprising though. Kid was a very good player, but could never stay healthy. Seemed like he missed a huge chunk of time every year. Moving on and finishing his degree seems like the best option for him at this point in his life and career.

Did he ever actually play against KU or was he injured every time KU played TCU?

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 he played the 3 games the year we had josh j. That’s all I remember.

  • Why would he transfer?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

A Generational problem. CBS just posted a chart showing 47% of all D-1 prospects will transfer during their career.

With Jaylen who knows… Maybe wants a fresh start. TCU recruited a ton of guards recently. The freshman Davis played well against KU recently. Dixon also signed a Top 100 PG for 2019 and has another 4-star combo-guard signed. Writing on the wall? I don’t know.

This one feels pretty mutual and TCU has said they will honor his scholarship if he just wants to finish school at TCU.

Remember, scholarships aren’t four year guarantees. Someone may not have their scholarship renewed. Transfers happen all the time. Regular students (i.e. non athletes) transfer all the time. That has happened for a long time. It’s not generational. It’s not even just athletes.

  • @justanotherfan

I agree its not just athletes that transfer. Within athletes though the options available to them currently has made transferring much easier. The graduate transfer option has basically opened a can of worms. The transfer portal introduced for football is another. How much longer before its basically free agency? I’m not trying to interject my own opinion here however I don’t recall the transfer rate this high 10 years ago. Generational issue may not have been the correct wording but it sure feels like a new age issue. Maybe in today’s society this was bound to happen regardless of the rules in place. I see more and more mid-year transfers and overall the final numbers continue to rise. I’m interested to see where the breaking point is for this

  • @justanotherfan that would have been a real cruddy thing for Dixon to do to him. I’d like to think it was his choice.

  • @BeddieKU23 10 years ago coaches could be total jerks and not release kids, greatly hampering transfers. With social media giving kids instant access to such info, I think coaches have eased up to avoid bad recruiting reps.

Yes that’s a very good point. As you sort of touched on, the balance of power has shifted to the players recently.

  • I’m plenty ok with it turning into free agency. It should be whatever the players decide, in my opinion.

Would Baker Mayfield or Kyker Murray be potential NFL players without it?

Would Dedric get the same look had he continued on a bad Memphis team instead of proving he can do the same thing at a P5 level?

These guys are all elite athletes and nobody goes to sit the bench. It should be fun. Playing is what makes it fun. Some guys that transfer get an opportunity to prove they truly are elite. Not every system fits. Not every coach fits.

If it is truly about the students than they should be able to what is in their best interest with no reurcussuons. That’s just how I feel, I get others viewpoints on it though.

  • I think has more to do with his injury with TCU saying they would still keep him on scholarship makes me think he will never be the player he was if he’s able to go at all. There is certain things I do and don’t like about how transfer heavy the game is getting. I do get that guys want to play and that fine but a free agency would be crazy. If Self made a player mad for benching while not playing well, he’d just pack up and go. That would be bad for the sport, Ik the coaches are already so much easier on the kids as it is.

  • @Kcmatt7

I’m still weary of where this is all going but I’ve voiced my support for players to have more control in the past so I’ll stand by that now despite the crazy amount of kids hoppin from one place to the next. Coaches have done it for a long time so it only seems fair players have the same opportunity.

A good example this week is The Oklahoma QB who wanted to transfer to West Virginia but OU was not releasing him fully to go there, despite being a graduate transfer, that is until they landed Jalen Hurts to be their QB and then it was OK. Coincidence…yeah right.
