Fair enough. I Just have trouble with the “entitlement” vibe here sometimes. We can’t win em all.

Cool. I have a problem with our perimeter defense.

17 points so far in the 2nd half… I still think this team ends up being dominate defensively. My 1st half meltdown has been rescinded.

291st ranked team in 3-point defense. Got torched in the 1st half knowing that Marquette was going to shoot 3’s. Played better in the 2nd half. Good. Still a lot of work to do if they want to be a dominant defensive team.

Based on what? Percentage? I can find favorable stats. 3rd ranked Kenpom defense before the game. And I’ll go ahead and say it will still be ranked top 5 after holding a good offensive Marquette team to under 70 points.

Well I will say teams absolutely do not guard Garrett.

    Edit: But point still stands.

  • Too bad some people weren’t able to enjoy this win.

Yes, based on 3-point percentage. As I’ve said for the 100th time now. And my complaint was about Kansas’ perimeter defense and opponent 3-point percentage. Thank you for finding KenPom stats for me, though.

  • Rock Chalk Gobble Gobble ! Happy Turkey Day everybody.

(And let’s be Thankful that our team has the kind of “problems” that about 300-plus other Division I schools would love to have.)

  • I think we tightened defense on perimeter. That shut them down.

    Good win.

I will say Garrett played very well on defense. Was very active and challenged their 3’s in the second half

  • Good guys win yet again and are the number 1 team in the country yet again. Good to be a Jayhawk fan

  • Good win, Kansas. If we play two 2nd-halves like tonight I think we’ll have a good chance against the Vols. Rock Chalk.

  • Bwag said:

    Good win.

Marquette had 10 3 attempts in second half vs 21 in first.

That’s what I was complaining about. Let’s continue that approach and be ready for balance of the year.

It’s very obvious that the 3 point defense for KU needs work. The 2nd half looked a lot better obviously.

Yep! We have the horses inside to hedge and funnel guys into the paint. Run guys off the line. 3>2 especially when the 3s are open and with the twos there is a behemoth patrolling the paint.

Well, I do think Gonzaga is the better team right now. They are experienced and used to playing together though. They got this Duke win without one of their best 2 players too!

Wait until after Friday night. KU does play the #5 team in the country Friday and Gonzaga doesn’t play again until Monday so they may end up being #1 when the next poll comes out.

  • @BShark think I’ll have another Johnny Walker Green 15 year old in celebration.

  • And just like that, we looked like a ranked team.

  • Will Virginia break 50 points?

Its just simply not the only stat that matters for a defense as a whole. And I’d think after a 2nd half of clearly making the adjustment you’d see that? You’re right, we need to improve and do better on a consistent basis. But, we showed that we can. What did we allow, four 3s in the 2nd half? That wasn’t just cold shooting. That was good perimeter defense.

  • @Kcmatt7 The 2nd half was a very encouraging sign. I hope they keep it up!

  • I wasn’t complaining about our defense as a whole, I was specifically complaining about our 3-point defense. Before the game. During the game. After the game.

Yes, the perimeter defense was better in the 2nd half. I agree.

  • Dotson was extremely good tonight. He shut down Markus Howard completely in the 2nd half.

  • I would love to hear Selfs halftime “talk” . Going to assume there would be a lot of “bleeps”

  • @Kcmatt7 we allowed 10 attempts- that is the key. Cut their attempts by more than 50%.

  • KirkIsMyHinrich said:

I will say that I’m surprised Bill didn’t make it an emphasis this season (so far) after the Nova game.

  • When KU decides to guard they are scary good. When they don’t, they are very beatable.

This team will get better as the year goes on. This is typical of KU in November. KU will still win 30+ games, they will still win the regular season title, they will still be a 1 or 2 seed, they will still be in the KC region starting out in either Des Moines or Tulsa.

None of the issues with this team are things we haven’t seen from a Bill Self team just about every year in November.

  • BShark said:

Dotson was the MVP tonight, imo.

  • @Kcmatt7 I’d vote Dedric, but Dotson was very good.

This team should not struggle on either end at any time. Too much talent.

  • Hmm , Dedric plays against Quality opp. – Look how he played against Michigan ST = =Big time - - tonight 26 points and 12 rebounds. - -Is this how i’s going to be ? - -but last to starting to show Think they say he had 19 and then 26 tonight - -hope he can continue to improve as the season goes on ,

This game against Tennessee is gonna be a war. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

3 assists 2 blocks and just 1 turnover as well. Great game from Dedric.

He came to play tonight. And his rebounding is so good night in and night out that I probably don’t appreciate it enough.

I just thought Dotson was pesky on D all night long and made a ton of good decisions on O. His speed alone was responsible for at least 8 points tonight.

  • @Kcmatt7 Very excited about Dotson. Especially if we get 3 years.

  • BShark said:

    Sure would be nice…

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 do we win the Natl Championship? Do we have the talent to?

  • Who can explain Marcus Garrett’s shooting style? I’ve never seen a successful shooter with one shoulder away from the basket. Garrett doesn’t even try to square his shoulders. But, I like how active he is, just not his shots.

  • @Kcmatt7 and yet we have struggled at both ends at times. I do agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 that we will grow and continue to improve.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 It seemed the Roy Williams teams would sometimes come out in November and be as good as they were going to get all season. I like that Bill’s teams get better all season.

  • Go CLE

  • KU held Marquette to 21 points in the second half; did not score in the first 9 minutes or so. I call this very good defense.

  • Watching the Above the Rim feed. Not bad!

  • Dotson was a stud, but after all my doggin on Dedric so far, he kept cool and, somewhat Perrylike in its quietness, had a great game. I give him the mvp. Tho without Doke (as usual) we’d have been hurtin
