  • A OU fan last weekend claimed that WVU fans thru knifes at him in Morgantown.

  • Jayhawks will be on a plane today traveling to the East Coast. No one complains more about the travel than Huggie and he has every right. WVU traveling to Lubbock for a league game is a legitimate disadvantage.

  • Does not the term conference infer regionality? I will never recognize WV as a legitmate member of the Big 12. It is nonsensical.

  • @wrwlumpy Yes, that problem will become more of the norm after the next realignment. @Fightsongwriter I honestly have no idea why we added WV when Louisville said they wanted in. WV has a tiny tiny media market and brings practically nothing to the table academically. I guess their decent in FB and BB but Louisville before the offseason basketball stuff was better in both IMO.

  • @kjayhawks Maybe they offered the “special recruitment” ammenities to our visitors, who were offended.

  • @mayjay lmao

  • @Fightsongwriter Conference contiguity was an outgrowth (largely in the 20’s through 50’s) of regional identification but equally the result of travel limitations (train, bus). Jet travel and national media saturation has eliminated many advantages of previous geographic proximity. Charter flights make a huge difference for P5 programs, too.

E.g., you can now fly from OU to WVU in the same amount of time, or less, as it used to take teams to bus from Norman to Ames.

  • @mayjay

Hawaii called, they said…really? Tell us all about it. 😄

  • This is gonna be one tough game for KU.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Imagine those years that Univ of Hawaii was probably wishing they would build a school on the French Frigate Shoals or Midway so they could get some conference games. Travel by outrigger.

  • The thing that bothers me most about WVU is that they have a 38 year old guard. Is that legal?

  • Remember when WVU won the game on a Svi - KSU impersonation.

  • @nuleafjhawk They’re telling the same Perry Ellis Bingo jokes about Carter.

  • @wrwlumpy that maddening thing about this game was there was no media outrage, wether it be National like the KU ISU blocking foul on Niang vs EJ or local like the KSU game. It’s only BS when KU wins.

  • @kjayhawks

Nobody roots for Goliath - Wilt Chamberlain.

  • Marvelous school and country side.

    Now massacre their team.

  • “Nobody roots for Wilt Chamberlain.”

  • I was reviewing Billy’s case when Self announced that it was “out of KU’s hands.” Self announced this Dec 20. KU began the investigation Nov 11. All the paperwork gained was over a month. They submitted it Dec 20 and he has served a suspension for too many games. Now they are conducting their fact finding? So, if KU took from Nov 11 - Dec 20, the ncaa has had Dec 20 - 23. Let’s give them Dec 24-Jan2. We are now Jan 14?
I’m sorry if you don’t smell something, you’re kinda stupid. The ncaa has had plenty of time to take all that KU gathered and review it. They should’ve had a ruling the week of Jan 2, or Jan 11 at the latest. The break shouldn’t be that big of a problem. Everyone is using the break as an excuse.

Either they have a ruling of indefinite suspension, or they have decided to let him play with time served and are trying to carefully craft some kind of official position to the public. Something tells me that it’s the later. If they were going to suspend him indefinitely, they would have ruled already. So, whatever KU gave them, made them think twice. I have a good feeling that he might be freed soon. The question is, when? He has served more than enough suspension time, so they can’t add anymore suspensions. The only other penalty would be indefinite suspension meaning Billy goes bye-bye.

Maybe like Silvio, we’ll all wake up Monday and learn he’s free to play against WVU. What a great announcement on Jan 15.

  • Playing against experienced guards in Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles Jr. Playing against a West Virginia team that is looking to rebound after a loss and should be very focused. Playing in Morgantown where whistles go to die. Playing against a KU team that lacks grit and toughness. If KU doesn’t make 3’s this will be ugly. West Virginia by 12. I hope I’m wrong.

12 is closer than I think. Gonnnn be ugly.

  • @truehawk93 This is the risk you take when you do something stupid. Billy obviously did something that’s not on the up and up and now he’s dealing with the consequences. He’s also now learning the invaluable life lesson that his bad choices will impact others besides himself. His bad decision is hurting the team that offered him a free education while trying to prepare himself for an NBA future. That’s not even factoring in that Billy is hurting NBA future by not getting game minutes against other future NBA players.

  • @wrwlumpy Carter could be Perry’s Grandpa.

  • @wrwlumpy You mean the game where the dude stopped his dribble at the 3 point line and then took a layup? I’d forgotten, but thanks for the memories!

  • It’s Man up Monday. I hope Self has some good ammo to pump these guys up.

Rebounding is the key to a win. These guys win the rebound battle we win the game

  • Ohhh boy what a big game tonight. This game will be different than in our past trips to Morgantown. WVU will be favored (maybe not new) but will also be ranked higher, and at #2 to boot. This is a different situation psychologically speaking than past trips where KU is king. Our record speaks to a tie for first place but everyone knows we’re just grinding and have very little margin for error.

We’re still KU so we’ll get WVU’s best shot, but the pressure isn’t the same this year. Could make for some scrappy good play from our “underdogs”. RCJH

  • WVU favored by 5.5.

  • @wrwlumpy oh, I thought it would have been more, should have done my research.

  • This game is a real test to see if our guys are ready to step up. We shouldn’t let them control tempo. Period. And we shouldn’t turn the ball over with 4 capable guards on the floor.

Winning this game would give us our best shot of earning #14. Losing creates more of an uphill battle.

In some ways… I see this team as being a team that might end up playing better away from AFH than at home. There is more pressure at home to “hold down the fort” while playing on the road creates an opportunity for us.

  • Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

Kansas-West Virginia on Monday is a high-leverage game for the Big 12 regular season title. The Jayhawks will have a 46% chance to win the title outright with a win, 21% with a loss. The Mountaineers will have a 19% shot at the outright title with a win, 5% with a loss.

  • @dylans I think Seth Walder has a 100% chance of not knowing what he’s talking about. My personal opinion.

  • @nuleafjhawk 🤓 Analytics never won a game.

  • @drgnslayr

This game is definitely a test on many levels. You have to beat WVU physically and mentally.

Usually KU comes into Morgantown and Huggy Bear is the underdog at home. This time WVU is favored and ranked higher. KU has played pretty well on the road this season however this will be the most hostile environment they have faced. We’ll see whether either dynamic has any effect on the game.

I know Self doesn’t like to play up the revenge factor but how could he ignore it here. 4 straight years we’ve been defeated in that building and a few of them have been embarrassing. I hope he plays with the emotions of Devonte & Svi up on that fact that they have never won in Morgantown and see how they respond. I would like to think that gets the competitive juices going.

The battle of the boards has never been so important. WV lives off 2nd chance pts and we all know how they force turnovers and create a certain physicality to the game. I’m watching these guys tonight on the “effort” chart. If we see guys matching the effort of the WV players we have to feel good about our chances.

    Matchup of the game:

Carter vs Graham. Both players have improved tremendously as Sr’s. Carter has really advanced his offensive game to match his defensive ability. Graham is so important to our offense so its going to be very interesting how Devonte gets his shots. Carter was the only guy this season to limit Trae Young from his usual spectacular game. I don’t think we can win this one without DG having a good game, its vital we find ways to get him free.

  • Self said they spent 30 minutes practicing in-bounds plays against WV. Every year it never seems like enough time

  • @BeddieKU23 Here’s hoping we’re working on a press break that is fast, attacking, and makes WVU pay for pressing – not the slow … methodical … lobs … that permit opponents to dictate pace.

I think we hope for this every year and we get the same press break. I expect nothing different and hope to be surprised. A lot of guys making their first trip to Morgantown as rotation players- Doke, Mitch, Newman, Garrett, Cunliffe, De Sousa. I bet De Sousa is sparely used unless we get into foul trouble unfortunately.

Vegas line moved to 7 1/2 WV, up 3 points. Certainly not trending well in that regard.

The boys have to man up. Self can certainly facilitate that heading into tip.

  • Wow, didn’t know that two of my favorite players in both Pro hoops and baseball (West and Brett) are alums there. As usual, nice research and pics wrwlumpy!

Love the comment above on this is the place whistles go to die. That being the case, I’d like to see Sosinski and DeSousa get in some hard tackles, er, I mean, aggressive play, while giving Doke some breathers. You know, just to let em know we’re not all small wiry guards 😉

  • @BeddieKU23

Devonte can be a bit sneaky… I hope he plays sneaky tonight… and draws fouls on Carter. That is our clearest path to victory.

    Get Carter in foul trouble!

Tech got Carter into foul trouble and he was forced to sit for a crucial stretch in the 2nd half that turned the game so that’s a great point. He’s definitely their catalyst. I hope Devonte’s sneaky numbers of late (9 FT attempts per game in Conference Play) continues tonight
