Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)

@jayballer54 Notice all the articles on Grimes where he said his mom didn’t push him to KU? Said she wanted it to be his decision and his alone.

" EXACTLY " and that’s the way it should be. - He is the one that needs to be happy at the College he is attending - -It’s his future we are talking about here - It should be HIS decision. I fully realize that as kids we want to make are parents happy - - proud - -but at the end of the day - it’s the kids life & future that’s the real issue here. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

He was grinning ear to ear it was so great. Also he had that custom KU jersey ready. I think he had an idea for awhile, just wanted to confirm it. 😂

  • @jayballer54 Except Randle isn’t really a center, I think, right? He should have been dominated by Joel because he’s out of position. In college he was a power forward, he’s only 6’9" against a 7’2" guy.

True but not JO’S JO’S fault. - -he can only guard who he is told to guard - besides more and more position less BB anymore. - And Randle has graduated from College this is the NBA may have a power forward in College but it’s called welcome to the NBA lol. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • With Grimes, it really doesn’t make a huge difference what Vick’s decision is. That’s why landing Grimes was so important. If Vick comes back, you’re thinking about a truly great team. If Vick goes, you’re still really, really good.

Right now, as of this moment, KU has the following roster for next season:

Guards - Garrett, Cunliffe, Moore, Grimes, Dotson

Forwards - Lightfoot, K. Lawson, D. Lawson, De Sousa, McCormack

You can mix and match that group as much as you want.

Go small with the Lawson’s, Garrett, Grimes and either Dotson or Moore.

Go Big with Garrett, Grimes, the Lawson’s and McCormack or De Sousa.

Traditional lineup with Moore, Grimes, K. Lawson, De Sousa, McCormack

Everybody’s basically the same size lineup of Garrett, Cunliffe, Grimes, and the Lawson’s. You could switch everything with this group. I’m not sure many teams could actually match up with this group on the floor on both ends. Maybe nobody could.

And that’s without Vick. And without Azuibuke. Add those guys in, probably approach Lightfoot about redshirting, and you have a legitimate 11 deep team. Look at that group again. Cunliffe is probably the guard that won’t play much, but I think he’s going to play solid minutes on this year’s team (and do well). De Sousa is probably the least ready, but if he joins the team at semester this year, he could be much more ready to contribute as a soph.

  • I really find the scholarship conversation interesting. There are really four underclassmen that have been rumored to consider going to the NBA after this year.

    Vick, Newman, Preston, and Dok

As KU stands now, at least one of them must go in order to have enough scholarships. (Note, this whole post assumes there is no surprise transfer). The interesting part for me is that circumstances change throughout the year and nothing is guaranteed. Prior to the season starting, all I saw was people saying it was almost a given that Dok would be gone next year. Now, just two games into the season, all I’m hearing is that its probably more likely now that he stays another year (not on any mock drafts, plays a dying position in the nba, etc.). What if more circumstances change? What if, say Preston can’t play this year and NBA teams don’t want to take a chance on him until he proves he has his head on straight? What if Newman has an average year, would he really prefer to be paid overseas rather than try to improve his draft stock at KU? Of course there is always the scary Brandon Rush injury thing that could happen too which forces a player into another year of college.

Its all very interesting to me. It seems that even if someone like Romeo Langford wanted to sign with KU right now, Self would probably have to wait until Spring to know for sure that the spot is available.

  • @RockkChalkk Desousa will use a 2017 scolorship if allowed to reclassify

  • Billy and Malik are going pro no matter what. They want to get paid, whether it’s in the NBA or overseas.

  • @justanotherfan

As far as I know, Lightfoot is studying Engineering and has no NBA aspiration so highly unlikely he redshirts.

I actually think this supports the argument for the redshirt. An extra year of free college to finish your Engineering degree, not in a rush to get to the NBA/Overseas. Doing Engineering while a Div. 1 athlete is a very tough thing to do, that extra year might be very welcomed actually.

  • @BShark If Romeo is ALL IU, why not just commit already? He will be all IU bball. Lil Miller has already gone all out and put his cards on the recruiting table. Almost in a desperate way. I’ll tell you why. Romeo is waiting to see what Vick does. If Vick stays Romeo is IU and if Vick jumps, Romeo is a Jayhawk. Why drag this mess out. If you are Indiana Mr Basketball and you’re the man, you commit. Romeo is no dummy and he sees a good thing at KU. Either way, KU will be…KU.

How many all state Mr BBall players has KU landed over the years? Can anyone name them? La Frentz, Collison, Ellis, Heinrich, Grimes(?) … Any of our Chicago players? I hope Romeo understands this concept. I could be wrong, and the “Crystal ball” may be right, but something tells me this kid is looking hard at KU. Some might even think that Grimes coming may discourage Romeo, but Grimes is a 1-2, 3 and Romeo is mostly a 3? We could use a solid 3.

I said this exact line earlier about why is he waiting. I think it might just be Vandy or KU.

Garrett won some Texas POTY awards.

  • @BShark You remember my gut feeling buddy? how you said you have faith in it? or starting to believe in it?

Well - - - -I think with Garland going to Vanderbilt & strong possibility looking like they may land Shittu also - -my gut feeling telling me Vandy ha become a major player - just like Texas with Grimes. Langford has talk about playing with Garland and the talk for awhile was the two at Indiana - now just switch the scenario a tad. Those three would make Vandy a pretty solid program - all I’m sayin is HEAD’S UP - -my gut is talking to me again lol - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 Romeo is close with Garland and Grimes. It’s going to be a tough decision for him.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

@RockkChalkk beat me to it, but given his degree program and the fact that he has no pro aspirations, I think Mitch may be open to having a year where he can really focus on academics, which gives him a chance to finish his degree, play four years, have a little fun and leave school without much in the way of debt. It’s certainly something that they should consider talking to him about. He can provide depth in 2019 and 2020, and it benefits him as well.

  • @BShark Wasn’t Lightfoot POY in Arizona?

  • @Barney R.I.P. Arizona hoops

  • @Barney yes! He also said the only way he’d leave ku would be in a box-casket. I’m rooting for him!

  • @truehawk93

Just of the top of my head…Tyrel Reed were Kansas POY and so was Releford and Simien, Conner Teahan was Missouri Gatorade POY, Garret was Texas Gatorade POY, Carlie Moore was Illinois Gatorade POY, Lightfoot was Arizona Gatorade POY, Xavier Henry was Oklahoma Gatorade POY…several were multi-year winners.

Essentially every player at KU, including walk-ons, has been an All State or All Conference player.

  • @RockkChalkk @justanotherfan

Engineering students tend to be different and not typical of other student that want to stay longer in school because the job prospects are not that great. Most of the Engineering students I know, both as a student and instructor, want to finish their degree in 4 years and move into the real world; taking a couple of classes in the Summer makes it very feasible. Now, if he wants to go to graduate school I can see where he could stay an extra year.

  • @JayHawkFanToo DON’T FORGET PERRY

  • @Barney

I was listing the players not mentioned in the original post; he did mention Ellis.

Mitch seems like a great kid, but you know what I mean! :p Ya I know guy - I have a soft spot for the kid - but I know and your right - he really tries though you couldn’t ask for anything more. - You won’t see him transfer though. - To many of his friends says he is to much in love with Ku. - -He needs a redshirt, Ku frontline going to be solid next year. Plus with De-souse coming early opens another schlorship yet for next year, cause this will go on the 2017 class. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Anyone else watching this Puerto Rico Tourney? - -Mercy I watched this yesterday with Iowa State - said then wasn’t sure who was worse - -Iowa State or the play be play guy? - Well Same play by play guy today – I think he wins.

Been Calling Western Michigan - - -West Virginia Mountaineers most the game - When they are Western Michigan Bronco’s - -mercy mercy mercy. - -The female color commentator keeps saying Western Michigan trying to get him to understand lmao - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Kentucky down 18-8 under 12 minutes to go in the 1st half at Rupp to East Tennesse St- ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

The scoreboard at the KU Athletics site had Tennessee as Fort Hays the entire game… 😃

  • @BShark Awesome and even the Rock Chalk chant by the College Park students, and supporters.

  • Let’s get at least one more.

  • Lightfoot was an exceptional HS player. Anyone with the ability to play any time at KU as a freshman was undoubtedly an exceptional HS player. That does not ensure that a player will be a college star. There are several recent Kansas POY that are barely playing at all at the D1 level. That doesn’t happen as often in the larger states, but in a state like Kansas or Arizona where there may only be a dozen or so legitimate D1 hoops prospects, there can be years where the top player is not a surefire D1 starter.

Mitch Ballock was the top player in Kansas last year. He’s getting 20 minutes a game for a solid Creighton team this year. For most POY, that’s a great outcome. Sure, some will be stars in college or even make it to the NBA, but most will play in college a bit, then go on to a different career.

  • @justanotherfan And he is only a sophomore. Some require more development than others. Being thrown into the mix prematurely because of injuries is not really the same thing and can actually work against some players because it changes what role they are practicing to fill. Being undersized at the 4/5 with no other big playing inside is not Mitch’s fault!

  • @mayjay

Lightfoot has the build of a SF, the attitude of a PF and has been forced into playing Center, not the ideal conditions to perform consistently well. He seems to have a decent outside shot and would be interesting to see him play SF but KU has plenty of capable players at that position and is extremely thin inside.

  • Lightfoot has shown an improved jumper. We can only hope the rest of his game continues to improve as well.

The biggest weakness he has right now is fouling. He’s subbing for Doke for rest/foul trouble and compounding the issue as soon as he gets in. Either he’s going to have to start being less aggressive with his block attempts or we’ll be stuck playing Clay Young again and again

So far the most poised walk on we’ve had in years. I’m sure he’s loving Preston’s antics
