Alexander, Diallo...Preston?

How does one explain the Florida plates? That’s the hold up for me. A Charger isn’t extravagant; I believe he could’ve legitimately come across one. I hope it all checks out, but if not KU will hold him out until the NCAA clears him and they may never clear him. I hope KU doesn’t get a rep as throwing the kids under the bus. I feel they are being cautious, but others may paint it in a different light.

If they have cheaper taxes there that is the only thing that makes sense.

This is Billy’s car, he does own it. KU has even stated that much. And we know his mom is not starving for money at all, far from it. That is my one glimmer of hope.

Heard a rumor that he is done for the year and there will be an announcement on it before tomorrow’s game. DAMN, isn’t that so special - - doesn’t surprise me if this is the case. I’m telling you the streak of these occurances is really starting to be a real pain.

Man I really hate to say it BUT our season our hopes for making a real push in the NCAA’S this year if this is the case just took a KO hit.

Not because Billy so super multi talented BUT strictly because of Depth issues, when it come to it we come up against any kind of team in the Tourney with big quality depth, Doke has done really good this year read where he only has 5 personals on the year being able to stay out of foul trouble but for instance we come up against a Duke with the height and talent not going to be good I’m afraid - - Strictly because no depth period on the frontline.

Like you said earlier, I don’t think now we will see Billy play ever again in a uniform at KU - if he is done for the year -he is gone at the end of the year - well he was going to be gone anyways probably but you know what I mean.

We have just GOT to get Silvio De-Sousa here soon now - -no longer a desire but a need a bad need, - -soon. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • you can lease a brand new charger for $300/month, so maybe Billy just isn’t spending his money on tattoos

  • @DanR Yeah, but the Florida plates. He’s not from Florida. It’s really the only thing giving me pause about the situation.

  • Say it ain’t so Billy!

  • I will say again he does OWN the car, so def not renting.

There has to be some big Juco hack that we could plug in for 8-10 a game if this situation goes south. Somewhere. We could get him a car or something. LMAO " we could get him a car or something " - - now you stop that lol. - BUT ya hit the JUCO quick - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@HighEliteMajor “We could get him a car or something.” Heck yes; there is a popular model positioned right now, out in the parking lot of the men’s dorm. Just a wee bit of body work, and it is up and running for our next Big. All it needs possibly from what I read was a couple of new tires. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • If they were temp tags, the car could have been bought in FL and given temp tags to get the buyer to wherever is home. Lots and lots of “Irma Specials” out there!

  • @JayHawkFanToo I would think if Billy was found ineligible out for the year, wouldn’t surprise me if he left. - -Why? - -Cause he was only here for a year anyways chances are more then not this kind of thing is getting old really fast. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I don’t buy that it takes 3 days to find out exactly what is happening in this situation.

  • @BeddieKU23 I hope and think we find out something today either way.

  • Teams need to get ahead of this type of stuff. If a guy is clearly a one and done the coaches should ask for and verify what type of car the player will bring on campus. The coaches know the kids family financial situations and they only manage 12 players.

  • @BShark

Didn’t they say they were preparing without him. Even if its cleared up, the prep for the game has been done without him so he’s essentially out of the game plan anyway.

This is the risk of Preston coming full circle. Thanks Deandre Ayton

I don’t care about how it impacts today’s game tbh, just want to know officially either way.

  • @BigBad I think they do. Have to get parking permits, after all. But I think that was why there is a problem–BP didn’t tell them about it, and then, oops! An accident.

We might be really lucky he apparently cannot drive worth crap.

  • @BShark

I agree, the bigger issue is whether we are preparing for games without him for “X” amount of games or the season. I think that’s where its headed, Compliance has sent this to the NCAA for review

  • @BeddieKU23 Even with only X number of games, can he actually get through X without getting into more trouble? So far, unsuccessful (where X=only 1) in that dept.

  • @mayjay

I would say my confidence in that would be close to zero. He signed with KU with risks and well here we are. Its becoming a nauseating feeling

  • The good news is we can get away with playing Mitch more against a lot of the upcoming teams.

  • BShark said:

I would love to say something positive to that fact. Well I’ll just say he can only improve if given more minutes? That’s the best I can find

  • He isn’t terrible on defense. So games like this where our guards should run circles around them I feel we can get away with him more!

  • @BShark

Yeah he’s made some defensive contributions but he doesn’t rebound with any aggression which is concerning given the type of player he is that wants to be a high energy type guy. The bar was already low in my opinion from an expectations point but right now he needs to step up and play well. No excuse

  • @BeddieKU23 Agree and I do think this is a game where he can shine, especially relative to UK. SDSU can shoot but they can’t defend the ball one bit. They play with a slow pace and still have bad defensive numbers. So Mitch doesn’t have to do anything offensively, not really.

  • @BShark

Yeah tonight could be one of those games for him. Especially at home where its easier for him to find comfort. I hope for a positive contribution from him tonight. The biggest thing he could do is if he’s guarding Daum, to make shots difficult and not foul. That would be a big win for him in my book

  • I think we will put Vick and Garrett on Daum, gotta make him work. He isn’t really a post player.

  • @BShark

About half his buckets from 3 so far.

The team has made 55% of their shots from 3 so far. Small sample size but we have to run them off the line

  • I would trust Garrett on Daum. His length and smarts would at least make the shots difficult

  • Yeah, I’m sure Self has drilled them on guarding the 3 line. Force them to get by you and make athletic plays. They actually have a lot of size but, finesse bigs.

  • @BShark

Yeah a lot of 6-5-6-7 types.

They share the ball well, 8 guys average 1 assist or more…

  • Yep. It’s a trap game for sure. I think KU wins by about 10-12 but it can definitely be a scary game if things go poorly.

  • @BShark

To be fair the team they beat in their last wouldn’t have beaten our exhibition foe’s. Alabama St wouldn’t score 30 against KU. South Dakota St isn’t an athletic bunch, Daum is a big guy and he’s not going to beat you off the dribble. We have no choice but to play Doke on someone and if its not Daum then I don’t know who because their only other big guy only plays 15 minutes a game. But Doke can’t sit in the lane like he did against Kentucky and that’s going to be a problem. They will run screen actions to get him open outside. So I’m really interested in how Self scouted for this game without Preston who would be on paper the best option to cover him. Either you stick with Doke and let Daum get his and focus the rest on limiting Jenkins or you put someone quicker and smaller on him and Doke is forced to cover somebody else.

This matchup for South Dakota St only works if they make everything from 3 and KU misses shots like they did Tuesday.

  • @BeddieKU23 Agree with a lot of this. Aaaand I don’t think KU misses nearly as many shots. A lot of that was because they weren’t super great looks against UK because UK is long and athletic.

  • @BShark

I hope we feed Doke a ton inside. He has a huge advantage in this game if he stays out of foul trouble. This should also be a game that Vick is the leading scorer.

Doke gonna eat on O for sure. I think both teams are gonna score a lot.

  • I think the biggest risk is our guys fouling while guarding the 3 ptr, or fouling on pick and rolls when the 3 is being guarded adequately. Particularly for Svi.

  • @BeddieKU23 The best part of Garrett’s defensive game is that he makes it hard for the other team to get the ball to his man in the first place. On him like glue the entire time, head swiveling around tracking the ball to stay in position.

  • @DanR Yeppp

Just about this entire forum and the coaching staff loves Garrett. Kid just has IT.

  • @BShark so what is the problem then? He owns it and it’s registered.

  • @HawkChamp I think the question is who paid for it. The more I find out though, the more I think being done for the year might not happen. If it’s improper benefits or w/e it could just be like a 9 game suspension or so. I hope we find out officially soon.

  • So, after the recruiting wait was over, now we go through a waiting period of anxiety over someone we previously waited for to become a Jayhawk. Seems like we are never settled!

    PHOF

  • @BShark

If the car is a lease it is technically owned by the leasing company and rented to the user. If the leasing company is in Florida it is conceivable that the car was licensed and tagged there.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

It’s been a shell game the entire time. It’s not about the car…but what’s inside the car!!!

    0_1510943724621_upload-11acceb3-491c-4b4e-bd68-2a698de01f47

  • @JayHawkFanToo In my experience, leased cars are registered and tagged in the state of the lessee (renter), not the lessor (owner).

  • @mayjay

Billy has lived in California, Texas and Virginia while attending assorted prep schools; I don’t believe he qualifies as a Kansas resident. I seem to remember but I am not sure his mom lives in Texas but it is possible she is now in Florida. If a car was leased, it would have been done by his mom since Billy most certainly would not qualify.

At one time I looked at car leases in Florida for my dad and remember looking at some really great deal that I could not dream in Kansas; Florida has much lower taxes than most states; in fact, Florida has no state income tax and this is why many high earning athletes reside there since they can save literally millions…but then Texas does not have income tax either while Kansas just raised the state income tax…retroactively…I bet the explanation will be a doozie.😃

Which is why I think Marcus would be a good option guarding him on the perimeter. We have no idea how good he’d do in the post area but in HS he said he guarded Centers. Daum does have post moves and at 250 pounds any guard no matter how good defensively is going to struggle trying to stop a guy from putting his big body on you. We’ll see what happens. I know Doke is going to struggle trying to guard him outside
