Good to see him putting up good numbers at a decently efficient clip. I’m going to try to watch all of the games tonight and see if there is anything the stats aren’t saying.
-
Much better this summer than last. Setting himself up for a big senior year.

Link? I’d like to watch the upcoming games.
Edit: Nevermind, it’s all on firstrow

@BShark It’s all on youtube.
-
Svi looks great vs. Latvia. The entire game.
-
Crazy to think he is still under 20 years old.
-
Kansas fans should really appreciate Svi’s decision to return. He and Devonte are absolute rock steady contributors to the Jayhawk program. Vick, Newman, Preston and Doke are rising stars, but all 4 present varied questions about dependability. Hopefully all of them stay healthy and trouble free and upwardly productive, gelling into a smooth progression. With Svi and Devonte, we pretty much know precisely what to expect; and that is POSITIVE PLUS!
-
@BigBad I know right? To think this will be when most kids are sophomores. If you looked at his last season as his Freshmen season, most people would thing of him as having a lot more potential.
-
Kudos! You wore out nail head.
Devonte + Svi = BULWARK!
Svi could really be a weapon this season, if he gets comfortable from Three. Under 20? OMG!!! He had a man’s body last season. This season he could have a man’s mind; i.e., the neural nets could be grown in. Watch out. He needs a new nickname. How about the Ukrainian Rail Gun for his long range gunning? Or maybe Svi Thri? Or the KIEVAN RUS KID?
Devonte could surprise people. I expect him to look awesome on defense, because of healed legs. He is much more intuitive and fluid PG than Frank. And with Malik, Svi and Vick to take over his role as volume shooter of treys, his trey percentage should jump up to Frank’s level last season! Two POYs in a row?
Rock Chalk!
-
He’s the best.

-
@jaybate-1.0 all the talk last summer was how Devonte has improved and would be a candidate for NPOY. That didn’t happen of course, but now I think we have two candidates:Newman and Graham. Has a school ever had two players of the year in a row? I still am not convinced that he was hurt all last year like you are, but I do think he deferred to Frank, as coach has said.
-
@Kcmatt7 most people are very critical of Svi but they never take the time to realize how young he is. Fans of other teams think this too and say how he is overrated. Hopefully he will be more aggressive this year, not necessarily looking to shoot more, but also looking to drive and dish. I’ve been watching past games and I was reminded that he is capable of being a really good slasher. I watched the game against Vanderbilt in Maui and he had some nice moves. Need to see more of that with the absence of Frank and JJ.
-
@wrwlumpy Thank you for the links.

Looks as though Svi will eventually earn some big bucks, whether NBA or European circuit. I really look for him to do some fine things for BIll Self’s Jayhawks this season. I can envision fast pace play with him, Vick, Newman and Graham on the floor with one dominant big man this season. Doke, get yourself in shape to run the court!
-
Self didn’t sound all that happy to me about svi missing time in wt room, again. Debbie downer here, but he took a ton of shots and had a bunch of to’s. Doesn’t he play again in sept?
-
I didn’t think his numbers show him to be very efficient overall. Big numbers but guessing his utilization was big too.

Well, he is one of their two best players so this has been pretty standard for his role with their team.
That won’t be the case for KU this season and his role will be different.
-
@BShark does he play again for another tournament?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Next tournament is in September in Israel, I believe.
-
@mayjay I think that’s changed, I just read on KU hoops.
-
20 points a game that’s nice. Shooting %'s were usual, Svi isn’t an efficient scorer and probably never will be.
Love that Self is calling him out now about hitting the weights. He hasn’t been able to coach him all summer and has to find ways to motivate him once he gets back to Lawrence. For Svi, playing was much more important in my opinon.
-
Svi appears to be a very hearty competitor, not prone to injury considering his many months of game minutes winter/spring/summer. Seems as though injuries have always been a contributing factor for KU and so many schools, come NCAA Tourney time. He has survived some brutal play.
