Shh this might be Coach's best team ever

This might be Coach’s best team ever. No really.

First you have Graham that took a back seat last year to Mason and JJ. Well not this year. Um the kid can play.

Vick and Svi battled all last year. Come on, Vick showed flashes of being JJ last year. Svi is so close to greatness, we can all taste it.

Newman was considered a OAD. Things didn’t work out. It happens. Yet now he has a year under Coach with the same talent that projected him a OAD.

Dare I mention Coach has some bodies in the paint this year to help Udoka? (not sure he needs any)

If I wasn’t a KU fan I would be scared. Udoka is scary good. Kid was catching on quick before he got hurt. Are you kidding me?

I don’t always drink but when I do it’s a beer in one hand KU basketball on the tube. Stay thirsty my friends, as I think this up coming season is going to quench our thirsts.

  • Don’t see it. I’d take Robinson over Graham because of defense. I don’t care about Robinson’s offensive numbers because he wasn’t asked to be a scorer. Robinson was a far superior defender than Graham will ever be and that’s the advantage.

Newman has a chance to overtake Chalmers, but right now, I’d take Chalmers over Newman. Rush was a better wing than any option this year. Arthur as a sophomore is very likely going to be superior to freshman Preston and definitely better than Whitman. Azubuike is the one spot where I’ll say the 2017-18 team has the advantage over 2008. 2008 also had a huge advantage over this team on the bench. This team has nothing close to Sherron or Sasha coming off the bench or a Cole Aldrich caliber player as a fringe rotation player.

  • One of his best teams. very inexperienced front line prevents me from deeming them the best ever, but we’ll see. Certainly one of the most talented, and athletic teams we’ve had in a while.

Yep. Back court will be very good again, but we really don’t know anything about the front court.

  • I am going to say something bold - Malik Newman is the most talented guard Bill Self has had at Kansas.

I don’t know if he will be the most productive (that was Frank last year, obviously). I don’t know if he will be the most successful (Chalmers). I don’t know if he will be the most well liked (Frank again). But from a pure talent standpoint, Newman is better than anyone Self has had. He’s basically what everyone hoped we would get when Josh Selby signed, except he has already shown he can play at the D1 level (although not to his talent - yet).

  • @justanotherfan I like bold statements. I look forward to congratulating you on your prediction.

  • @KUSTEVE

So long as Russia has a monopoly on supplying LNG to the EU and a duopoly with China on the TransEurasian Super Corridors, there is less likelihood of sympathy for mass murdered Russians in the Deep State’s Western media than Self signing an OAD 5, while he is contracted with adidas!

I’ll have what you are drinking.

This team will win the big 12, but will exit early in the tourney. definitely weaker than last years team.

  • Until we see how this squad gels and plays unselfishly together, I will hold off on predictions. Quite a few big ifs, but certainly a bundle of experienced as well as new talent. In my opinion, the biggest ifs: if Doke can stay healthy and if Doke can quickly learn to steer clear of foul troubles. By league play, we get 28 minutes out of Doke, and this team will soar!

  • @elpoyo I disagree. Last year was a doughnut hole in the middle. That problem has been resolved. Not as much individual talent, but a much more balanced team, and a much better defensive team. I like our chances.

  • This team has the POTENTIAL to be the best team Self has ever had. 6 pro prospects. The entire starting 5 and Svi/Vick off of the bench. IF you get pro level play from all 6, it is another NC banner.

But the reality is that we won’t get that. Odds are we get Pro-level play from the 1,2 and 3. The Vick/Svi combo should produce one guy playing NBA level. Question is whether or not Doke develops any BBIQ at the 5. And then if Preston can compete as a Frosh. Billy is realistically the age of a Sophomore or Junior though, and so he COULD be a big surprise if he comes in with the right mindset. But history isn’t in Billy’s favor. At least under Self.

To me, this is a more talented 2012-2013 team. They went 31-6. I think this team is a 30+ win team too.

    • PG: DG>EJ

    • SG: Newman = B-Mac

    • SF: Svi/Vick > T-Rel

    • PF: Preston <? K-Young (Preston could surprise still)

    • C: Buke > Withey

    • 6: Fr. Perry < Svi/Vick

    • 7: Tharpe < Cunliffe

    • 8: J-Tray = Whitman

I expect this team to be very balanced and very solid. Sometimes, when you take away the Alpha (Frank) it makes it tougher to be game planned against. I think this team will be tough. Enough fire power off the bench to avoid major drop offs and the ability to score at the 1-5.

we lost frank mason! no one on this team can replace him. the only ku player who i think could was sherron.

if anyone on here thinks DG and Newman will be able to make up for the loss of mason…keep drinking the kool aid.

    @elpoyo

I disagree. Sure last years back court will be almost impossible to beat. Yet last years team had no front court. This year team may fall short in the back court but should still be pretty damn good. However this years team has great potential in the front court. In fact it might be great?

I’ll share what I’m drinking, but I’m going to charge ya. If you can prove you are indeed a true KU fan, and just have an Eeyore personality. Then I’ll let you drink for free. Yet I reserve the right to pin the tail where ever I want.

  • @elpoyo was probably saying Frank sucks before last year, just something to keep in mind.

Better yet last years team was going to suck because there was nobody to replace Perry Ellis. We always make it work somehow.

The Irony of his/her original post to DoubleDD was too funny to pass over. Asking someone what they are drinking?? HA

  • Lots of great potential on this team. The pieces need to fit and its probably going to take a while for that to happen but if Newman is as good as advertised, Preston takes to coaching and Doke returns with a vengeance we’ll be just fine

  • @elpoyo Irreplaceable, huh? Your lack of faith doesn’t discourage anyone on here. However, your obsession with KU does speak volumes about our success. The best programs will naturally create bitter, jealous rivals. So in your case, it’s obviously working.

nah…i was actually saying wiggins sucks!! hate that guy. wouldn’t even show up to the roundball classic…he doesn’t want jack$hit to do with KU. was always about himself and $$$$ and to top it off, his bro ain’t even coming here. Boy, he worked self good.

wow…great reply! I’m sure that’s a devastating comeback in the break room at Walmart!!!

  • @elpoyo It was such a good response, it left you babbling about Walmart.

Seething, unbridled jealousy on display. Keep braying, Donkey…you’re making my case…

  • @KUSTEVE

Don’t argue with @elpoyo , he is one confused loony bird…

I think you are deeply confused. Andrew Wiggins has two older brothers. Mitchell JR and Nick. Neither of which were comparable as a prospect to Andrew. Nick is currently in the NBL and Mitch JR played at a CC and then Southeastern University in Lakeside, FL. At least get your facts straight.

  • @JayHawkFanToo That is HOF classic …LOL…

  • @KUSTEVE Why are you feeding it? That’s what it lives for.

  • I think this team will be better than last years, does that mean FF and NC? Maybe, we will find out. Personally I think we can defend and rebound so much better, on paper last years team was the worst defensive team under Self. We had to out score people to win and we were in the bottom 3 in rebounds during Selfs tenure. Doke is a big help in those departments all bye himself.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 If someone walked into my house, and started yelling at the top of their lungs, I wouldn’t ignore them…I would tell them to shut the F up, and get out. I assume you would put your fingers in your ears. To each his own.

  • @KUSTEVE This isn’t someone entering my house though, it’s an internet troll who craves attention and reactions. When trolls get neither, they eventually go away.

And if someone is dumb enough to enter my home without permission, they will be hearing a gun being loaded while being told to leave before something bad happens to them.

  • @kjayhawks Bingo. We were beat by a better defensive team, period. I want to see lock down defense again. That is Bill’s trademark, and our key to the Final Four, and winning a national championship.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Exactly.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I think if I was someone else in your house (not the intruder) I would hear that and know it was a good time for fingers in my ears!

  • As to trolls: They never go away. Tolkien lied in “The Hobbit”: even sunshine doesn’t kill 'em.

    @Texas-Hawk-10

In my house they won’t hear the gun being loaded. Trust me they are already loaded.

In my house I don’t have to even have my gun or guns. My wife makes sure hers is locked and ready to rock.

    God I love that woman.

  • @DoubleDD I really, really, really hope she feels the same way…all things considered.

Just make sure she considers you to be the right caliber man. And, I would be extraordinarily cautious if she mentions any issues that are trigger points with her.

  • @mayjay

I decided to not stir the pot. Error in judgment.

  • @mayjay Trolls that don’t get the attention and reactions they seek don’t stop being trolls, they just find a new place to be a troll.

  • Arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics…even if you win you are still touched.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 I’m glad you understand how I feel about our house here. You can ignore it, while I bring the big thunder.

  • @JayHawkFanToo BOOYAH!!!

  • Come on guys, you know what happens when you feed the animals.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 If you have to load it, it could be too late.
