Bragg Suspended Again

  • I just feel sick to my stomach about this team, have played like crap half the time and all these distractions I bet we end up losing 4 straight and 13 straight ain’t gonna happen. First round loss in the NCAAs.

  • @kjayhawks I can imagine how self and the team feel.

  • Let’s take a chill pill.

This seems worse than it may be because of the incident a month ago that turned out to not be Bragg’s fault. He was in the wrong place with the wrong person at the wrong time… but he was exonerated.

Then there is the rape case that recently cast a cloud over the whole team because of the location and the involvement of the team as ‘witnesses’. We don’t know what that means, but that’s presumably not Bragg’s fault.

As I read today’s news, it sounded like this incident was a violation of team rules… He might have been late for the bus and caused a delay… Maybe he cut classes… we don’t know.

That’s a lot of crap to sift through, but after all is said and done, it’s just one violation for Bragg. Most players get more than one strike, unless it’s really egregious.

  • @Blown

    PHOF!!!

  • See ya Carlton.

I have no problem saying your done here.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Agree, the only thing I was trying to point out is " That Physically " Mitch can’t hold his ground right now. - I like the kid, I think he will be a rally good 4 year player for us. He might surprise me, this is not a negative against him, it’s just he needs a year with Hudy I feel to be able to add some bulk. Other then that, the little amount of time he has been on the floor I think he has been ok and will continue to improve with more playing time, which is here for him now. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I like the way Lightfoot looked last game. great tip in, several good rebounds. Remember, he doesn’t have to replace alot.

  • @KUSTEVE

He’ll have to play bigger then he is especially in the next 2 games.

My question stands here. If Mitch or Dwight were ready to step-in why has it taken 20 games and a suspension to get there. As you said its not like Bragg has played well where his game can’t be replaced. Mitch in the last two games has started to show some hint of improvement. Dwight has sat so many games its hard to expect anything other than his 5 fouls.

  • @Blown Great poem, and wise words to pause and let it work out. However, from history when Bill says “violation” of team rules, it seams that generally means we never find out exactly what is was and it is Bill-speak for " pack your bags son, you have pushed me past the limit"

I hope I’m wrong and CB can get it back together. It does seem like the articles with his name and the term "drugs (or drug pariphinalia) " continue to surface. That is not good. Guilty by association? Maybe. Where there is smoke there is fire. Perhaps.

I do know never in a million did I think this sort of crap is what we’d be talking about with this team.

  • If Mitch can rebound the ball on the defense, and snag an occasional off rebound, he’ll be better than Bragg for our team.

  • @kjayhawks Not looking good, have to agree the streak I think is in real jeopardy, this could be a very long bad stretch. Time to circle the wagons, play with pride and even more determination. It’s just that we can not get in ANY kind of foul trouble, just no one to fill in. - -If Mitch can just give us a few him and Mitch maybe, maybe we can work through this. I mean it’s not like Bragg was a scoring machine, we was ALREADY getting our point production elsewhere. We just need Mitch and Dwight to eat up some minutes try to get some rebounds if Lucas gets in foul trouble - -I’m just trying to get some kind of positive take- any take other then negative out of this. I bet Baylor - -WV and others are licking their chops right about now like a pack of wild dogs circling for the kill and our streak. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • When you begin to see stories like this, then you have to wonder if this is the last we see of CB:

    http://www2.kusports.com/news/2017/jan/26/tom-keegan-bragg-suspension-might-equate-addition-/

Sounds like marijuana, if you read between the lines. Playing with a “clear head”?

They aren’t ready, but one or both will have to play now. Sucks.

Wouldn’t break me up inside. KU will be okay next year in the post if it’s Doke/Preston/Lightfoot/random late recruit.

  • @KUSTEVE I’m kind of wondering but I sure don’t want to get that started but I did wonder that MAYBE it was him that has the drug paraphonia sorry about the spelling but hope you get the jest at McCarthy? - -ya I know Coach said this wasn’t related BUT still makes me wonder? - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @KUSTEVE I read there’s nothing upstairs!

  • Losing Bragg stinks. Now there is no backup height. Coleby is mentally shot and Lightfoot is 6’5" tall trying to play the post in D1. I love Lightfoot mentality, but his frame is too short and light. The loss of Bragg wouldn’t be nearly as big without the loss of Dok.

As it is now our guys whom Bill says are already distracted by the rape investigation are now distracted by Bragg. Hope they snap out of it and focus only on the game at hand. That’s the best way thru distraction/turmoil -do your job and do it well.

  • @dylans Kentucky people saying they think that this will just make Ku come out and play our butts off. That things like this gets team to rally around. Some saying they wish we would been at full strength, some saying actually what did Bragg bring to the table other then 5 fouls. - Not as bad mouthing as what I thought they would be laying it out. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @kjayhawks @BeddieKU23 I understand it seems like he is off the tracks. But the first incident wasn’t really his fault. He put himself in a bad situation, sure. But he was found innocent so lets not hold the first incident against him.

This is more of the fact he has been playing like crap. Neither of you would say that if it was Frank or DG or JJ. Bragg is part of the KU family and we need to support him. I’d rather us slap him on the wrist and keep him on the right path then just say screw it and let him go completely off the tracks. We don’t even know what he did. So how is it fair to judge him?

  • I hope Bragg has not gone all Brannen Green on us. He seemed to get quite a few warnings before being pointed to the exit.

  • So…he is suspended indefinitely which means he will be back for the Baylor game, right? After all Duke has established “indefinite” to mean 1 game and Duke and Coach K are the ultimate authority according to ESPN and the MSM…right?

  • @JayHawkFanToo Hard for me to envision Bill Self falling into the wimpy footsteps of Coach K regarding “indefinite suspension.” I would say that CB is out for at least two games. Not knowing what this suspension is all about, and not having viewed Carlton’s commitment in practices, I still have watched him closely in recent games. The kid has been offered the opportunity to bounce back from his late night goofball involvement in the “girlfriend fracas” several weeks ago. His value on court appears to rank as about a 6 on a 10 pt. scale. He might not return to this squad for the duration…although I suspect that he, like Greene, will get ONE MORE CHANCE. His tenure at KU is in deep jeopardy.

  • Replace Bragg with Tyler Self. At least he’s smart and hustles.

  • @REHawk

But, but, but…isn’t Duke supposed to be the gold standard according to the main stream media?

I guess the sarcasm in my previous post did not come through…

Doesn’t offer much on defense, would think he’d be the type to do well against Baylor with his midrange jumper but JJ has that position on lockdown. And Bragg can’t pass out of the post nearly as well as required. The game moves too fast for him still. Hopefully next year.

Meanwhile, we’ll do fine without him at home against Baylor. He sits at least 2 games.

  • If it has to do w/school work, it may be over if he gets caught up or takes care of business. Didn’t that happen w/BG for the ou game? 2 years ago, there? Perry was hurt too.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Would seem unlikely it is a school work issue, as the semester just started about a week ago, right?

My speculation which is 100% speculation is that there is possibly a connection in the drug paraphernalia found during the rape investigation and this suspension.

I watched Self’s presser yesterday as well as Hawk Talk Radio. He seems to be very distraught/concerned about this investigation.

  • @kjayhawks

“I just feel sick to my stomach about this team, have played like crap half the time and all these distractions I bet we end up losing 4 straight and 13 straight ain’t gonna happen. First round loss in the NCAAs.”

Come on… get it together. That’s the noise of the purple kitties. You’re a Jayhawk. We don’t go down without a fight… and the fight has just begun.

We just took a jab from the Mountain boys. No big deal. All they do is make us focus every year and play better.

You never win a trophy without taking some punches.

  • Well I read now where there is the drug case pending and they have notified the individual for a court date but didn’t release the name. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Blown When are grades reported? It’s been 40 years for me but i seem to remember first week or two of second semester but I assume technology has improved that.

My speculation is that I don’t have enough information to speculate about Bragg. From comments Self has made I think he does not have all the information he needs about the investigation himself. That would leave me in his place distraught and concerned, also ready to smack down anyone that steps out of line in any way.

As far as the investigation goes I believe if a player was directly involved the name would have been released by now. That is what happened with Bragg in the last incident. Public figures tend to be named early on while others are often not until charged. I hope this is sorted out quickly and accurately for all concerned.

  • @Kubie Grades reported from last semester would have likely happened weeks ago. I can’t speak specifically to KU right now…but in other institutions grade were posted a few weeks after the end of the last semester which was Mid December.

And you are right; it is not fair to Carlton to speculate.

Self seems more upset about this incident, to me, than he let on when charges were pressed against Carlton the first time around. There seem to be “unknowns.”

  • @jayballer54

Again, unless you know for a fact it is a KU player, why even bring it up? I bet you a million to one that every single dorm at KU has lots and lots of drugs and drug paraphernalia and it is not a big deal anymore…in some states is not even a misdemeanor anymore. It was that way when I went to school a long, long time ago and it is even more prevalent now,. Should every student living in any dorm be considered a suspect just because there are some potheads living there as well? I think not and neither should be the basketball team players.

  • @Blown he was really po’d w/that reporter asking if he was covering info!! I was too. If it was drugs wouldn’t he already have sat him? Meaning he already knew? I’m grasping here

  • @Crimsonorblue22

You have it right. The presser was streamed live on Facebook and I watched most of it and Coach Self reacted very strongly to the insinuation that there might be a cover up; I have never seen him that upset, he really took it personally. I will guess that whatever the deal is with Bragg was learned after the press conference and Coach Self did not know about.

KU has a group of volunteers that is at every class players take making sure they go to class, so the coaching staff knows immediately if a player has or is cutting classes. If a player like Perry Ellis, which is/was an outstanding student, cuts a class or two it probably would not be a big deal, but if a student that is not dong well cuts classes, it would be since it could potentially affect eligibility and program academic goals. I know a few of the KU players are academic all conference but I don’t have information on Bragg’s academic standing, so I could not say one way or another.

  • @drgnslayr oh you never have to worry about me giving up man. I’ve been rock bottom more than once, I would’nt wish my life on my enemies. I’ve never been out worked or huslted bye anyone…ever. The trouble is I ain’t in a Jayhawk uniform, tell that to our boys. I call like I see it my friend.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 above the shoulders or in the building?

  • @kjayhawks

We are still sitting atop the B12. We’ve been in a lot worse positions than this in the last 12 years and still pulled it out.

Look… all of us in here are huge fans. We all have a lot “invested.” It just doesn’t help projecting to all of us you believe from here on out we are going to wipe out.

Our league threat is Baylor. We’ve owned Baylor forever. We always bounce back when we get kicked. Sometimes it takes a couple of games. But we come back and then we do what we have to do to win our conference.

I really don’t understand how you can think we won’t win conference when we have won the last 12, are still favored to win this year, and we are tied for the lead now.

I do understand your frustration. I know I’m pissed about several things happening right now. Completely friggin’ pissed off!

Anyways… I’m really saying all of this for YOUR benefit. Every year we get challenged. The key is to try to ENJOY being a Kansas fan more than STRUGGLING with being a fan.

I’m psyched we have a game tomorrow. I’m not really that optimistic we are going to come out on top. But I hope it, and I damn sure am going to watch and support our guys. And if we lose, like others have said, this game means very little.

I feel like we need Devonte to step up and LEAD this team right now. And I feel like we stand little chance in March if we don’t make this move now. I feel very strong about it. It ain’t gonna happen. But I’m still going to HOPE for the best moving forward. I just want you to have that hope, because if you don’t, you are suffering as a Jayhawk. I don’t like to see any of us Jayhawk fans suffer. We have a darn good program and we are blessed to have what we have.

    Take care, my Jayhawk friend!

  • @kjayhawks C’mon, man. It’s silly to think that way…here’s why:

I always think we’re going to win before the game. Because, I want to be hopefully expectant waiting for the game. If we lose, then I feel badly after the game is played. If I sat around thinking we were going to lose before the game is even played, then I have completely bummed myself out for no good reason before the game even occurs. If we win the game, then I have ruined my day(s) leading up to the game. I have no control over the outcome of the game, so it makes no sense to project losing in the future, as it only results in negative energy about a subject I love to think about. Clear your mind- resign from the fortune teller biz, and enjoy tonight’s game. Hell yes, I think we’re going to win ! KU 94 Ky 88. RCJHGKU.

  • @KUSTEVE

Maybe the sanest approach to being a fan I’ve ever read!

    PHOF

  • @KUSTEVE I never expect KU to lose. So I’m blindsided by every loss. But I enjoy every single victory. Enjoy the anticipation of a game, the build up, and of course the game itself!

  • @BShark

Every time I see the headline of this post, I worry that Bragg has been suspended again.

Its like Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.

I keep waking up and thinking its a new suspension, but then I realize its the same one over and over again. 😃

  • @KUSTEVE Gives me visions of Little Rascals Alfalfa - “Oh worra, worra …”

  • Can we get a restrainting order on THAT girl? Keep her out of McCarthy hall?

  • @KUSTEVE lol I don’t mean to be negative but my prediction is UK 103 KU 89. I’d be happy to be wrong, I’ll be watching and yelling regardless of what I think could happen, hell I’m a KU football fan. I can handle loses. I’m a realist my friend, ain’t no one else picking KU. Everyone thinks I’m giving up on this team, I ain’t I’ll never do that.

  • Ya know, it may well be just the same as trashing #13, but it may be time to just cut his losses & HCBS dismiss Mr Bragg from the team. His behavior seems to be following a pattern of dysfunctionality since, at least, this past fall. 4 months is not a lifetime, but it’s damn sure long enough for this kid (21 year old?) to remove his head from his ass. If the light is on it appears no one is actually at home. Sure hope this clown wises up before he takes the big fall Too bad, he could pretty much choose his own path in life & he’s just stumbling & fumbling along. JMO

  • @globaljaybird need to wait it out. 🤡

  • @globaljaybird I think you are being a bit harsh. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion. None of us know exactly what he has done recently and in the past. The previous suspension should not be held against him. Yes…he was not careful enough about who he got involved with. But both incidents appear…we don’t really know…appear to be caused by her. Now, we don’t know what happened recently…but everyone should get a 2nd chance. Again…I don’t know exactly what has occurred, but I don’t think any of us know enough to even consider that it may be time to cut him loose. JMO.

  • @Hawk8086 He was also involved with a diff female/incident at McCarthy in September. You don’t throw the baby out with the bath water but this guy is 22 years old according to reports. Old enough to display some maturity in social situations. When in Rome…

  • @globaljaybird I believe I read that it was the same female. Was not or should not have been arrested for either incident. I don’t deny that he put himself in bad situations… But that in and of itself does not count as one “strike” in my opinion.

  • @Hawk8086 OK who’s counting 🏀 or strikes? Coaches are in a precariously diff position.I know we can’t believe everything we read or hear but kusports.com story says not the same woman…yada yada. I’m all for giving him doubtful benefit but all this schizz is completely counterproductive to the efforts & effectiveness of the remainder of Selfs’ 👨🎓 students & players. Bragg is treading & barely afloat . His body language is freakin awful. I watched his first game as a Jayhawks at Sprint in the WUG warmups & he now is NOTHING & I mean not even close to where he was as a player then. His head is not on straight. This is to the level of affecting the other 👩🎓 student athletes & is forcing them to compensate for a teamates off court behaviors. JMO but I think that may be expecting too much. Some of those guys are not 21 or 22, but 17 or even 16 years old. Ya gotta draw a line somewhere & I’m willing to wager it’s now in the sand. If not, it needs to be. These kids are literally adorned with every advantage known to man & if they’re not smart enough to know, accept, & embrace that, then let someone else have that spot & be grateful enough to cultivate it for success. Like I said this is JMO I’m all for helping this kid, but not at the disadvantage & burden of the rest of the team or coaching staff. Hell get 👋 him a shrink & a foster home if that’ll help but don’t keep screwing the other guys around waiting for him to come clean. Something is wrong with this kid & it shows like a turkey turd 💩 on the end gate rod. It needs to be dealt with accordingly & now.
