THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
-
After dropping cable and going to sling I had to learn different ways to get what I want. In April I will drop the espn package and get the fox package to watch the Royals.
-
@Ralph glad it works! Don’t understand but glad you can get it
-
@HawkChamp I also use stream2watch.eu. Once I fight through the pop ups it works well
-
I’m watching Ben Mac, Cole, b rush and Wiggs.
-
ESPN 3 was blacked out for me aswell. The thing that I don’t get is if use the watch ESPN app on my phone or tablet connected to my homes WIFI its blacked out as well but if I don’t and use my mobile data it is not blacked out but I only can watch for minutes at a time due to data usage (watched a game LY and was about 2.5gs for it). It makes no sense to me.
-
@kjayhawks I use a roku to stream it with home WiFi, I would rather watch it on a tv than a tablet
-
@Ralph Forgive me for I am not super tech savvy but what is roku
-
@kjayhawks a streaming device. how do you watch sling
-
@kjayhawks The ESPN app looks for the service provider. In your home wifi (I presume) it has to go through your television or cable provider or satellite internet if you have it. Your home provider has a contract with ESPN that results in the blackout because the provider blocks it in certain areas. Your phone network provider apparently doesn’t.
In my case, I get everything because we are far away from blackout areas, but I still sign in to TW on the ESPN app.
Is the game available on the app after it is over, or is the blackout permanent?
-
@kjayhawks Roku is the future. For as little as 30 bucks, you have a device that streams tv onto your tv through the internet. There are gazillions of channels, some cost, some are free, but you have tons and tons of choices to watch.
-
@kjayhawks Russell Robinson set the standard for team-oriented PG/combo guard in the Bill Self era. Devonte Graham may finally, actually be better. Thank you for posting a pix of #3 RR!
-
@mayjay I’m in the KC metro espn3 was blocked but the espn app worked for me, both streamed with the roku to my tv. Maybe I’m far enough east the app doesn’t show KC.
-
@mayjay The game is available within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the live broadcast.
-
2 DAYS
-
@kjayhawks funny pic, is he letting it go or what there?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 looking at the net I’d say he ether just dunked it or went up for a tip in and pulled his hands back because it was good.
-
Just one more day before we get to over analyze an exhibition.
-
What else are we supposed to do, we have overanalyzed 18 year old kids for the past 5 months
-
Oh I’m excited for sure. I’ll have to find a stream for it since I will no doubt be blacked out for ESPN3.
-
1 DAY
-
Actually it makes sense. When you connect to wi-fi it goes through your internet provider which block the signal. if you stay with your cell provider, the signal comes through your cell and not through your internet provider. I should try with T-Mobile since I have unlimited internet and I have a huge chunk of the high speed type already stashed away.
-
You can download an app on your internet browser and stream it through your computer. I use Hola! and it says I’m in the UK and I can watch the game that way. I’ll test it on my phone tomorrow and see if it’ll work through my Chromecast
-
If you have the right TV set, you can mirror your phone screen on your TV set…
-
So I just downloaded Hola! on my phone.
What it does is put a new VPN number on your phone so it looks like you are in another country. I believe I will be able to stream the game from my phone on my own home wifi and Chromecast it.
More to come tomorrow.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yea I can’t mirror without connecting to WiFi unfortunately
-
In that case you are not mirroring but most likely you are streaming. Many of the newer cell phones and TV sets have the option of duplicating the phone screen on your TV without any other equipment. I am waiting for Black Friday to get one with that specific feature.
-
@JayHawkFanToo have you tried the watch espn app
-
I downloaded an IPad app called Betternet which apparently moves your IP address to a different part of the country. To test it I tried to get the KU vs texas volleyball game on watch espn and got it. My son tried to get the VB match on his phone watch espn app and it was blacked out. I’m not guaranteeing anything but there’s hope. It sux that the AD hosed us by selling out to TW. This is going to be a special year!
-
Can anyone explain to me if games are sold out how would it hurt to put them on ESPN 3?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 No. Because it is stupid.
-
KU basketball games have been sold out as far back as I remember. There is no rational explanation why they should be blacked out…other than the KSU alumnus who happens to be the AD trying to limit viewership.
-
Game day!

TODAY IS THE DAY
-
I’m going out on a limb here, and predicting a win for KU tonight.
-
you really are going out on a limb.
should be a fun intro to this teams destruction of opponents
-
“What else are we supposed to do, we have overanalyzed 18 year old kids for the past 5 months”
You mean for years… decades!
-
I think I missed others posting this… but don’t some of you just need to spoof your IP address?
I believe this will allow you to go around any blackouts for online viewing.
-
Very true, I meant the recruiting hoopla that the last 7 months have been. So glad we have game action to look at. See how improved the vets are, see how the youngn’s looks
More then anything I would like to see Jackson show off why he was the top recruit, a different type of top recruit. One that Self can mold and unleash
-
I want to see some sparkle out of Josh tonight. But I hope he has a different shine than Wigs did. Wigs situation was different, surrounded by freshmen. I am hoping to see Josh (eventually) mixed in well on offense and to be as dangerous feeding assists as scoring.
What I’m really looking for tonight is defense. I want to see dominance!
-
Yes a dominant defence against an overmatched team would be nice. Statistically we ended up pretty good on defense last year but there really was not a sense that it was a dominant defensive bunch. Plenty of games we wondered where the D went.
Individually Jackson on paper, seemed like the perfect Top recruit for Self. Values more then the flash of putting the ball in the hoop, fierce competitor, plays defense, values sharing the ball. From everything Self has said already about Josh “he unpacked his bags” was a good one used to describe the kids mentality.
-
I think we are all in for a surprise on how well Josh’s overall game is. And his long ball is decent. Sure, he’s not Brannen Greene (yet). But I think his long ball is better than people give him credit for.
Yes… there were times last year when our defense went south.
Just a few things that are on my Christmas Wish List to Santa this year (concerning defense):
-
Consistency - I’d like to see more consistency. Translating that… I want to see all our guys stay focused for 40 minutes and throughout every possession.
-
Low Post Defense - I’d like to see us control the paint this year. We gave up quite a bit to dominant post players last year.
-
Overdrive - I’d like to see our defense develop an “overdrive.” I’d like to see them step up when we need defense to really dominate, and dominate. This is the way to eliminate most (if not all) losses from occurring.
-
Steals & Run Outs - We have GOT TO steal the ball more and those steals need to end in run outs!
Otherwise, the other areas I expect them to be good like they were last year. I could make a long list of what they need on defense, but most of those things they did a pretty good job on last year!
-
-
When they are on the court, I can’t tell the difference between Mitch Lightfoot and Clay Young.
-
I don’t believe they will be on the court together much. LOL. BTW, Clay on the left and Mitch on the right.
-
So… someone in here must have the inside track on Mitch. Anyone?
I’m catching little bits from sparrows outside my window. I’m starting to believe he will earn some PT minutes this year… more than just mop up minutes.
Any truth to that?
-
Coach Self was very impressed with him but he is still learning the system. If Bragg gets in foul trouble and Coach does not want to go small, I can see Mitch and Svi taking turns at the 4 since Washburn does not really have anyone over 6’-7".
-
Have you seen him practice or play? Does he have good handles? Midrange shooter?
-

All Great points.
Consistency is what we are used to, Consistency on the road would be a good starting spot. Our D sometimes stays in Lawrence in certain arena’s. Sometimes we don’t truly understand how much better KU plays at home on both ends of the floor.
Low Post D should be better in the Big-12 as we’ll play some teams that lost everything in the post. When its not a stretch to say Landon Lucas is a top 5 big in the Big-12 this year you know the league is in transition. Absolutely no knock to Lucas, just pointing out the talent in the post is missing this year. It’s a guard heavy league.
Which leads me to your points 3 & 4. Not sure we see that much improvement from #4 due to the rules of the game that keep changing (more emphasis on perimeter freedom). With so many good guards in the league we might find it hard to force turnovers consistently.
#3 We’ll have to see how this team meshes together and finds its identity.

@drgnslayr good article on him on kusports
