  @nuleafjhawk Spot on. Funny you should mention that. I get my fair share of east coast media, including a bit behind the scenes. Many of those people did not like all the proclamations made during and after that game that is was the “game of the year, maybe of the decade or longer.” A lot of the fight back came from Duke fans, and they have (obviously) big ties to east coast media. I apologize for shouting this… but I want everyone here to pay attention to my next statement: DUKE FANS SEE KANSAS AS ONE OF THEIR NEW, UPCOMING RIVALS. This is important. WE NEED TO LOOK AT THEM IN THE SAME LIGHT. I think we focus a lot on Kentucky, probably because many of us have a disdain for Calipari, who also has Kansas ties. I heavily suggest we focus more on Duke and less on Kentucky, DUKE IMPACTS KANSAS BASKETBALL. Just ask the Booth family who ran up the price of Naismith’s basketball rules. Let’s get real, Duke had NO BUSINESS challenging us for those rules. But there are many other areas where Duke and Kansas compete, including for recruits and prestige. And, of course, on the court. If we don’t bring back situations like KU vs MU… we need to develop a new rivalry. I suggest it be with Duke. I’m posting a thread on it now.

  @mayjay “Although I have often enjoyed @Red_Rooster’s posts, they are rather infrequent, so he does not have many chances to pick up votes.” I think he/she is spending lots of time prepping for the upcoming debate or is getting caught up on sleep. One of those two scenarios…

  @Crimsonorblue22 He may be slated to miss the full year, but Charlotte may have worked something out to have him work with them and do rehab this season because they are interested in seeing him once he is fully healthy. That would be the best case scenario for Perry basketball wise.

  @JayHawkFanToo Self is savvy. He likely sees what most see in tournament engineering; this I believe is why he gears the team above all to win conference, where the engineering is either neutral or in his favor, plus a title and a good RPI serve seeding criteria. Were there less apparent tournament engineering and less apparent recruiting engineering on top PGs and top Bigs, then he likely would have schemed his team’s development curves since 2008 for the tournament more. I also think he started with a statistical philosophy of the tournament that even in an unengineered tourney the structure and size of the tournament made going to the trouble of developing a team that plays it any way they want make sense to Self. Is who he was. What he cannot anticipate, he prefers to hedge on . Gambling is a tactic for self. Hedging is a strategy Self appeared naively to expect (as many of us did) that winning a ring would enable him to start getting a fair share of the OAD and 5 star talent at 1 and 5. It didn’t. The apparently deep asymmetries of tournament and recruiting engineering appeared to spike sharply and blatantly. So he apparently started to fall back even farther into peaking for conference and building teams that were so neutrally balanced they could play the teams apparently seeded to exploit his worst match ups. Increasingly Self’s players rarely had their peak performances in the March Carney, which is a dead giveaway of how Self was approaching the tourney. Other elite teams had their OADs and 5 stars giving some of their peak performances in the tourney. Over this many years it seems not a coincidence.

  @HawkChamp I don’t have anything to back up that claim at all. Just a feeling that we are going to take it to this Duke team as we are the older and more experienced team and should be the better defensive team.

  Coach is doing his annual bitching about horrible practices before the first game. "The Jayhawks on Sunday held their first scrimmage of the 2016-17 season, complete with officials, a clock and a scoreboard. Even though Self said the team had improved from the start of practice, he was not all that impressed by his team’s performance during the scrimmage. “It’s been better,” Self said of practice. “We scrimmaged Sunday and we did not look good at all. But it was a great teaching tape because the guys saw how poorly we executed and really how we didn’t play with near as much effort as I thought we would. We’re certainly a lot better than we looked that day, but that tape was pretty eye-opening for a lot of our guys. We did not look like a very good team in our first scrimmage.” Asked for his read on why Sunday was a little sluggish, Mykhailiuk pointed to the ongoing process of bringing newcomers into the system." “We’ve got a lot of young guys and we just need to practice and make them feel better with our offense and defense,” Mykhailiuk said. “Just try hard, try to learn a lot, like always.”

  @JayHawkFanToo I think I understand what you mean, but… I am the biggest optimist in the world; that is why I am able to take things as they appear and work with them . Optimism is central to all effective inquiry and analysis. Inquiry is optimism itself. It is premised on an asumption that things might be understood and for the better . Reduction is pessimism .

  @chriz No. Frank is our #1 PG. DG plays that spot, thats for sure. My guess is DG gets on the Cousy list as well at some point. After all, this is a pre-season list.
