  We can also analytically add that Tharpe’s “defensive” is absolutely killing us. I personally believe we lost the KSU game due to his lack of D. The reason I like Bill Self’s approach is, yes, I like razzle-dazzle offense and transition highlights…but I also love the half-court stuff we run. But defense is HUGE: basketball is played on 2 ends of the court, so you “gotta make the opponent ugly, and take low% shots, or rushed shots…”. We are better than Royball now. Those days are gone. This team needs to get with their coach’s program on 1] defense, and 2] intensity level x 40min.

  I thought he always sounded like a Schnauzer… with that annoying repetitive bark. Kind of looks like one, too… something between a Schnauzer and the Penguin. I mean this light-hearted. I don’t have anything against Webber. We are going to get the best of him most of the time, and that makes me happy.

  @JRyman I agree… forget the #1 seed… 2 or 3 is fine. I doubt we can still land it anyways. These situations often help teams get stronger. Now the rest of the guys can’t fall back on Joel… especially on defense. We all saw how bad our defense played on the Kitties. Pick and rolls in the post… over and over again. This team needs to get tougher… and their best shot at doing that is without Joel. Then, hopefully, he can return to a team where he is icing on the cake, instead of being the entire cake himself.

  Agreed. 14-4 has a good chance of winning the conference. We may have a small cushion, but it is too small. I hope the rest our injured boys get the next two games is all they need.

  Its is on ESPN now… ESPN link to Kentucky new arena I am too old fashioned and probably in the minority, but I find it hard for an institution, whose primary charge is education, to justify spending $310M to upgrade a perfectly good arena, when there are probably tons of other education related needs at the school that will go unmet, so they can build a shrine to the squid. More importantly, what will happen in a few years when someone at the NCAA grows a pair and decides to really investigate the squid and the true story comes out, his entire record at UK vacated and they go on probation? Maybe something like this… The Bird’s Nest or this… Other costly abandoned venues Absolutely sad what happened to all these venues designed to enhance China’s coming out party to the world but ended up instead as gigantic "white elephant’ monuments to vanity and lack of foresight. I wonder if Brazil’s multi-billion investment (grossly behind schedule) will see the same fate.
