Hey Jayhawk fans,

I haven’t posted on here in a while, at least I haven’t started a post on here in a while. SO, Ive been lurking in the back ground on here, reading mostly. What KU has done so far this season is impressive to me. Im not gonna ramble on, I just want to add a couple thoughts.

Devon Dotson reminds me of a hybrid between Frank and Devonte’. He is taller like DG but he has that bulldog mentality like Frank. How he drives with the ball reminds me of Frank and how he shoots reminds me of DG, not quite but almost. He is super fast with the ball in his hands like both of them. What amazes me is that this kid is a freshmen. He is playing like a veteran guard!
Will he stick around KU for another year or so? I think it depends on how far KU goes in the NCAAs.

Dedric Lawson is a stud. He reminds me of Wayne Simien. Big guy, got handles, can pass real good and score from everywhere. He is leading this team in points, rebounds and assists! How is that not POY material there!?

I just rewatched the game from last night. Such a good game!! The refs made some absolutely godawful calls on both sides. But both teams played straight up, nothing really dirty that I saw. I gotta give Tennessee some credit, those guys are real good and they will be title contenders in March for sure. But, so will our guys. Dedric, Vick, Devon, all of them studs. KJ gave us HUGE minutes. And, personally I think KJ should get Garretts minutes. He isnt a liability on offense and he is a solid defender and can defend 1-4. Give the guy minutes! He deserves it after what we all saw.

@BShark HAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!! are you kidding?? Im serious, are you joking? We have a bunch of new players this year, there are bound to be growing pains. We all know that it takes most players at KU, who are new to Self’s system, a while to pick everything up, not to mention gel as a team and develop chemistry on court. Quit gloom and dooming and just enjoy the ride!!

Burlington Vermont is a GREAT college town! I loved living there for 3 years of my life. I made a ton of friends and the mountains are incredible to look at year round. There is lots to do outside. Lots. Any water sport you can think of plus hiking, skiing in winter, towns like Stowe and Shelburne are very near by and absolutely wonderful to visit. The local food there and the local breweries rival anything in Lawrence. I swear. And, Ben and Jerry’s corporate HQ is there. The building itself does NOT look corporate at all. It looks like a ski chalet. They love their home sports teams there too. College basketball and college hockey, soccer, lacrosse were the big ones there. The atmosphere at the basketball gym there is nothing compared to AFH. Its not close. I think it seats roughly 3500 and looks like a high school gym. Its cool though. For anyone wanting to take a vacation to a new place you’ve never been before, go to Vermont. You will not regret it.

That said, I fully expect our boys to kick their asses on Monday. They have a really good team. They will absolutely keep up with KU for the first 10 - 15 min. The Catamounts should win their league title and make another NCAA appearance.

@stoptheflop If Coach Self can get Wiggs to play good ball, then he can get Grimes to do it. Never met the kid but I bet he has more heart in his pinky than Wiggs does in is whole body.

Alright KU fans, we are literally all on the same team here. We all love our Kansas Jayhawks until death. I know this is a life long fandom for me. I’m certain it is for every one of you as well.

Let us take what Bill Self says and give him the benefit of the doubt here. When the evidence about Townsend and Self got released I felt the pit of my stomach drop. But nothing was proven against KU or the coaches. I also do not believe Coach Self to be a liar. Do any of you??

Let us stop fighting amongst ourselves about this too ok? We all have very valid opinions and we all love our boys and the coaches.

And for gosh darn darn, lets just see how all this plays out before we all go and act like the sky is falling because our favorite team is in jeopardy of being given the death penalty for having illegal and corrupt recruiting deals done under the table down the back alley of the seediest bar in town.

In other words, chill the fuck out people. Everything is going to be fine.

@HighEliteMajor Nike has the biggest overhead by far. Its not close. A company that big has power. Lots of it. What does power do? It corrupts. Its that simple.

@Statmachine Solid work. Zero chance that any top nike recruit goes to UK or Duke or even UNC & AZ without getting some sort of under the table benefit from it. Zero chance.

Not the same situation at all. I seem to recall the NCAA had warned Memphis of serious issues with Rose and they chose to play him any way. I believe there was enough contemporaneous evidence that Memphis was aware of the issue long before it admitted and became public.

The FBI started with its best and strongest case hoping that a conviction would lead to additional charges being brought against a number of other program and new testimony extracted under oath from people involved would be available for the next round. The only testimony we heard was that KU did not know about the payments and whether this is true or not, it is the only available evidence and it favors KU.

If the FBI gets a conviction, then KU has been shown as a victim and somewhat immunized. If the FBI does not get a conviction then further prosecution is doubtful.

At least on paper KU has shown that when it became aware of irregularities (Preston, Alexander) it proactively chose not to play them until the situation was cleared and it is a huge plus for KU. Contrast this withe Arizona that chose to play Ayton even after allegations (confirmed at the trial) that Ayton received money and yet I have not heard a peep about any penalties.

I would bet Silvio has known about this for awhile, I don’t think the coaches would blindside him with this the day before the game.

Yah, you’re probly right about that. But then why would Silvio say that ,“he knew he was playing this year”, if he wasnt playing?

Maybe his situation will be like Selby or Cliff, sit out some games then be back in December some time.

I mean unless I’m mistaken it was said they had Pitino on a tap like that, and where has that gone? I’ve yet to hear about that tape being outted to the public. Does such a tape exist. Same thing for Sean Miller.

I think if they existed we would of heard them by now. Or… They’ve been buried by those whose best interest is to keep them buried.

I think we have to assume the same thing for Self. There either is no such recorded convo. Or… there is, and somebody doesn’t want anyone to know it.

Im in North Carolina until next week and I keep walking past Duke tshirts and I always think G.D. Duke, cheating Mofo’s. Then Im like, Oh yah, the KU stuff.

But really what we should all do is reserve judgement of any kind about Bill Self and the staff until such a time as we have enough info to make an informed decision. Which we may never get. This stuff kills me. To think that our program could be participating in things that are against the rules. I always thought that KU and Coach Self were above reproach to take a bit from @HighEliteMajor I think we all have to be disappointed by hearing these things. But, I also think we need to continue to be life long KU fans.
That will never change for me. Not until I hear about KU bringing in prostitutes for athletes or allegedly trying to cover up a murder or something. Has that ever happened?

@approxinfinity One of the reasons Chalmers came to KU was because his dad was hired onto the staff, right? Or is that the other way around? I never thought anything about that before. But, now I have to look at it a little differently.

If Townsend knew of money being handed under the table and even went so far as to say that they needed to make that happen for Zion to come to KU, then there is zero chance Bill Self didn’t know what was going on. Zero chance.

Yah, feel bad for T Rob. Seems like he doesn’t check off enough boxes for NBA teams for him to make a roster long term. I saw that today and thought that he should go over seas like Withey did. Probly have a better career over there.

Here is my opinion on that. Keep in mind though that I am way behind the curve with football. I dont know the sport. But, what this looks like to me is that Beaty is getting scared and desperate. Beaty knows the hammer is swinging down on his time in Lawrence. He is trying to resist being ousted by cleaning house below him. He doesn’t want to take any part in any of the blame for the continued downward spiral of KU football. Its embarrassing right now. KU is so bad! There aren’t 2 teams worse than KU right now in all of div 1. Beaty has to go and AD Long has to fire him right now. Hell, he shoulda done it after game 1.

@BeddieKU23 100% will have to find a way to extend his bench out to 10 - 12.

@JayHawkFanToo Doubtful Self lets him play the three. We have too many guards.

Preston never suited up for KU. You all know that. What ever comes out of this trial against Preston and his fam is really not KU’s concern, or ours. Coach Self held him out of games on purpose.

Now, Silvio on the other hand. Self let him play. Now, THAT is what I am worried about. But, I also trust Coach Self. He would not have let Silvio play if he thought for one second that he wasn’t eligible or that it would hurt the KU program some how.

I just want to remind you all that if Coach Self thinks all 12 guys can play this season and contribute then that’s what will happen. Bill has a blue print for how to play 12 guys and how that works right now. He did it this summer with USA Bball. Don’t count on it to happen but don’t be surprised if it does. This KU team is loaded! And, Self has already said very good things about Ochai and David and Charlie.

Frank starting. That’s awesome and as it should be. He’s a killer.

@KUSTEVE Deeeeeeeep! I wonder if Self will extend his bench to 9-10 guys late into the season. Kinda seems like he’ll have to with all those guys.

Oh yah, Im super psyched about this! We may not have Frank and DG anymore but with Dedric, we have a guy that is, according to Self, the best passer KU has had since Miles. That’s sick! Devon, Charlie seem to be very capable of filling shoes there too. Can’t wait for the games!

To me, its looking like Silvio won’t be able to play for KU this season. Its not fair to him at all. I mean dont punish the kid for something he wasnt involved in. Make the recipient of the payments give it back and penalize them! Screw the NCAA and their idiotic rules.

@mayjay I agree and I find it extremely unlikely that Bill Self or any of his staff, coaches would do anything to hurt KU Basketball in any way shape or form.

imo, Stephen Jackson is right on the money with Wiggs. He has no heart! I mean, I liked him and was a fan of his when he was at KU. But, he doesn’t seem to want to excel. He doesn’t have the drive necessary to be a great player. That’s the heart of the issue. If Wiggins cared enough to try, he could be an all star!

Solid post! No way will any KU recruit in the near future be able to equal what Devonte and Frank did for Kansas basketball. I mean those guys are living KU legends. But I think we should all keep an open mind about Agbaji and Braun. Those kids have a chance to be really good. We’ve all seen first hand how Coach Self and staff can develop players. Its not out of the realm of possibility that those two kids can be really good at KU.

in the past 15 years of Coach Self’s tenure at KU, has he ever diverted from playing more than 7-8 guys per game once the core gets tightened up. especially in Big 12 play and post season? I honestly cant think of any time he did that, even when he was able to with depth. This will absolutely affect offense and defense with who plays and doesn’t.

Can he keep anyone on this team from seeing meaningful minutes who deserves them? We are so deep you guys.

I wonder how much he learned, got comfortable with during his USA bball time this summer in relation to using a full roster on the court.

I agree with what he said. I’ll add to it and say I think Udoka will absolutely rebound better per 40 min. He has to. And, if he wants to go higher in the draft next year he has to beastmode on the glass too. I expect him to continue what he did on offense last season percentage wise as well.

@BShark Id flip TCU and TX. WVU will be at least top 5 again. Huggy can flat out coach and Sagaba Konata is a beast.

KU is the leader once again KSU is gonna be really good this year. We might split the series with them and see them in the tourney final game for the tie breaker.

OU and ISU will bring up the rear of the conference.

@jaybate-1.0 far as I know, Silvio is gonna play. 'Course, I only know what ive read on both of the other ku sports sites. Newell seems to think he is good and so does Keegan and Tait.

Hell no man!! Your bonkers!! KU Basketball needs to keep going strong like it is. Its not broken, its a goddamm power house. I could give to F*cks about football in general. I love basketball and id be heartbroken if KU trashed its basketball program for better accounting surplus’s. Im betting the higher ups, like the Glass family and Allen family wouldn’t be too happy either.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Fair enough. I suppose Long would be most correct in not reflexively firing of Beaty this early.

To be honest, I hope KU and Long gain enough perspective and data to make an excellent choice of who coaches next.

Im sure this won’t be a popular opinion and since I dont follow or care much for football, Im fine with it being ridiculed. But, I was hoping KU would lose against CMU today. My opinion is that now with a win, Beaty wont get fired until much later in the season there by prolonging the suffering of the players and fans that will be around next season.
