    • Day dreaming about next years team

I cant help but to think ahead about what’s to come. Next year KU will actually have a title contender, a Goliath, a juggernaut or what ever you would like to call it?

Udoka Azubuike is already a beast averaging 14pts, and nearly 8reb per game. Good news for KU is that the NBA isn’t drooling over him due to his lack of conditioning and his lack of scoring outside of 4ft. The reality is he needs more time at KU before his NBA debut which benefits KU greatly because at the collegiate level he can easily over power opposing bigs. Opposing defenses will not be able to target him next year either because he will have another BEAST starting along side of him in the paint.

Dedric Lawson Led the American Athletic Conference in rebound average at 9.9 boards per game. His 19.2 scoring average was second in the conference. Recorded 19 double-doubles on the season. Had 14 games of 20 or more points. Pulled down 10 or more rebounds 20 times. Led Memphis with 68 blocked shots. These 2 starting bigs will be like a college version of Pelicans big-duo Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins in terms of dominating the paint.

K.J. Lawson Earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors and was a member of the AAC All-Rookie Team. He averaged 12ppg, 8rpg, and recorded nine double-doubles which were second most on the team behind his brother Dedric’s. Coach Self has said that he was the most impressive/surprise player in practice. He did put up some impressive numbers as a freshman before his medical rs. As far as maturity on a basketball level he would be a senior without his medical rs and sitting this year at KU had he stayed at Memphis. He should have the mechanics and playbook down along with 2 summers with Hudy. He is my pick for the biggest surprise player on our team.

Pick your poison at the 2 spot? Newman , Grimes, or Garrett? I hope Newman stays. I honestly don’t know who will start but we have a log jam here and Garrett could fill in at the 3 spot. Will Self elect to put Garrett at the 3 and have 3 ball handlers on the floor or play a bigger line up by putting him at the 2? Self will have plenty of options at his disposal. I didn’t even mention Cunliffe or Vick. If Vick stays OMG it will be Nuckin Futs and if he leaves and we land Langford HOLY SMOKES!

At the PG position we have 2 options Charlie Moore, and Devon Dotson. Moore had a pretty impressive Freshman year at Cal and started in all 34 contests. He was Cal’s freshman record holder for assists (120) and three pointers made (45), sixth for points (414) and seventh for free throws made (99). Dotson is tearing it up this year and moving up Draft boards to a OAD status. Who gets the nod?

All 3 freshmen coming in are McDonald’s All-Americans and Silvio De Sousa will have half a year in the system. Next year is KU’s best shot (if Doke and Newman stay) at being the first to go 40-0 and win the whole enchilada. KU should be the favorite to win it all right out of the gate!

I LOVE the questions where you can fill in the blank! I always reply with something completely nasty! Yester day I had a Question asking what I looked for in a Dandruff shampoo? There were 4 boxes you could click OR answer a fill in the blank. I answered with the following “It must make the hair on my dogs testicals soft, shiny, and flake free”.

I think Diallo is good at basketball but that’s just my opinion. Any takers on debating that statement?

Did you all see where Withey has gotten 2 starts for the Jazz and had 11pts and 12reb in 20 or so minutes last night? I am happy for him!

    • RE: For Lulu

Tonight and until every last 7’ footer signs with a program I need everyone to say a little prayer that we land 1 or 2 guys that fit HCBS hi low offence so we don’t have to continue to watch BAD BALL!!! Please dear Lord send us some help on the front court!!! Someone that can catch an inlet pass back to the basket turn and shoot! Some one that played volleyball and soccer until they were 7’ foot and too tall to play either sport. Someone that can learn HCBS ball in one short summer and be ready to dominate the big12 and stay for 2-3 years… AMEN

    • RE: To Boot Camp or to not Boot Camp. That is the question.

The NBA plays up to 80 games per season and have to stay in that kind of shape during the off season so depending on when you make the jump to the NBA you have to be ready to play at that level. In the NCAA these kids only play 30 or so games so I cant imagine that its going to take a huge toll on our guys? I used to play from the time I woke up until the street lights came on all summer long and never skipped a beat in fact I NEVER remember being too tired or sore to do it all over again the next day! These guys are young and their bodies can handle this type of conditioning BUT they are playing nearly every day atm. I think they will get rested up after the WUG and then its back to business as usual. They are missing some pieces that they will have to build the same chemistry with for next season so Boot Camp is probably still a viable option.

    • RE: To Boot Camp or to not Boot Camp. That is the question.

When I joined the Marine Corps I ran 3-5 miles and lifted weights every day of the year. I played pick up most nights or pretty much any competitive sport. I was in the best shape of my life. I may be bias but I believe having the drill instructors back to campus (if they do that again) will only help our guys bond and build more chemistry. I think playing the regular season schedule is not as demanding as playing in the big 12 tournament and then the NCAA tournament. Their going to get tired playing for days straight at the end of the season regardless of how much they play this summer.

Time to start preparing for next year! We are ONE legit 7’ away from the top 1 seed next year. HCBS needs to find our next years EMBIID or land a 5 star center SOON!

The next KU basketball class is ridiculous. KU’s only top 100 guy left and Self hasn’t signed one since. Is everyone in the top 100 drinking the Kool-Aid? My take on this is that they are all on the take or someone would have committed already. I get it no one wants to come to KU and get the De Sousa treatment from the NCAA! Adidas, and its affiliates have ruined KU’s next class and possibly our streak of conference titles!

    • RE: Where does Les Miles rank among the best coaches?

Our past 3 coaches could not have brought in the top notch assistant coaches he is bringing in either. I am waiting for the first of the 4-5 star recruits to start trending to KU. At LSU he consistently had 10 recruits in the top 200. Lets just hope he can produce those kind of numbers here? His coaching staff is excited about recruiting so I have to believe that they think KU can recruit at a high level. I live in TX and lets just say KU and Les Miles is being heard loud and clear! Everyone in my town has asked me what I think? They would prefer that KU stay away from TX kids or should I say Miles stay out of TX…

I thought I would throw some more fuel on the Football Fire we have started here. I am a HUGE believer that you can not have a successful sports team without a great coach. I expect great things from KU next year!

I like to think that most of us here at Buckets have criticized Coach Self for his coaching style and how he keeps his freshmen on a short leash. I remember reading posts about how he doesn’t let freshmen play through their mistakes. I remember us all pissing our pants over him keeping Udoka in during the Poke a Doke scandal. Just like here at KU we expect our basketball team to play for a national championship every year. Do you remember the desperation when KU lost 3 straight a few years ago? Remember how frustrated our fan base was when Roy could not bring our basketball team a NCAA championship? The change in scenery for old Roy was good for 2 rings.

Now as for the change in scenery for Coach Miles. There is not a coach in our conference who can out coach him IMO. I looked at OU on 247 sports and they have quite a class this year. Coach Miles has his work cut out for him but lets not forget about the fact that he can coach. Coach Self has been outcoached many times by the likes of VCU and others with a les talented roster.

Get ready to enjoy KU Football while we are lucky enough to have one of the greats leading the way! Buy your tickets and get out to a game while it lasts! I know I will!

    • RE: Les Miles Coaching Staff

      https://www.ksal.com/miles-tabs-chip-lindsey-to-lead-the-kansas-offense/

Lindsey’s 2015 Golden Eagle offense ranked fifth in the nation in total touchdowns, seventh in total points, eighth in total passing yards and completions, and 12th in points per game and passing yards per game. The 2015 Golden Eagles tallied more than 4,200 passing yards and just under 2,500 rushing yards. The national leader with 102 explosive plays, they were just the second school in FBS history with a 4,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard receiver and two 1,000-yard rushers.

In 2017, Auburn became just the eighth team in SEC history and the first in Auburn history to rush and pass for 3,000 yards in a season. The Tigers also ranked 26th nationally in total offense and set an Auburn record scoring 327 points in SEC play, winning the SEC West. All-SEC quarterback Jarrett Stidham, the second Auburn QB ever to throw for 3,000 yards in a season, led the SEC and ranked ninth nationally in completion percentage. Running back Kerryon Johnson was SEC offensive player of the year, and Ryan Davis set an Auburn receiving record with 84 catches.

I sure hope he can bring some of that to KU ASAP!!!

    • RE: Les Miles Coaching Staff

Chevis Jackson is a rising star on the recruiting trail he took home 247Sports’s Mid-American Conference Recruiter of the Year in 2017. Great start for Miles going after one of the top young recruiters out there. Mid-America recruiter of the year? When Les Miles says he is going to focus on getting guys in a 500 mile radius of KU he grabs one of the up and coming recruiters out there that has already been in touch with and in the homes of most of the talent in the mid-America region… Nice job Coach!

@mayjay No schools were offering anything but the shoe companies were. The wire tap proves that money was going to change hands at some point. Adidas lost the battle so he went to the highest bidder. That bidder then had him choose a school affiliated with their product.
