@wrwlumpy tyty!

Great work! Duke hospital is where my grandmother died so I do have a soft spot for the institution. Grandpa got to know a cafeteria worker in that hospital named James Worthy!

Vegas has us as a 4.5 point favorite.
And we are 2.5 point underdogs per ESPN. Shocker.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich Not something to get your nose out of joint. Vegas is trying to stimulate equal betting on both teams. ESPN is trying to stimulate interest in the telecast, so making Duke the favorite likely gives Duke fans reason to watch. And with the 5 stars vs 4 stars battle, it is not unreasonable.

So youâre saying Duke fans are fair weather fansâŚunwilling to watch unless they are the favorite. Meanwhile KU fans carry a chip - flyover state, no respect, damn right weâre watching.
-
@mayjay I think Duke fans would probably watch the game either way. Itâs not unreasonable to have Duke as the favorite but you can be sure that ESPNâs analysis in favoring Duke went so far as this: âWe love Duke.â
-
Anyone else think we should play a 4-guard lineup tomorrow and put Garrett on Hurt? Iâm very much in favor of this. Match-ups might look like:
Dotson - Jones
Moss - Stanley
Agbaji - Moore
Garrett - Hurt
Azubuike - Carey
That would put our best defender, Garrett on who I think will be Dukeâs best offensive player, Hurt. It would just make rotations for our defense easier in general, and it would probably make it easier for Doke to guard Carey. It would also give us another ball-handler on the court so that Dotson doesnât always have to bring the ball up against Jones, who is a very good on-ball defender.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich Iâll be really curious to see if Self tries to go with the two-big lineup for awhile. Iâd be surprised if he doesnât throw it out there for at least a few minutes.
Do we really think Moss is going to bounce back from the hammy injury to play more that a handful of minutes?
-
@ajvan I donât know about Moss, thatâs a good point. What is his status for the game tomorrow?
-
Moss probably wonât play. Iâd be stunned if Self started 4 guards. I think we at least start with 2 bigs and then adjust as necessary. One thing we know, Self will coach circles around K, whoâs basically a figurehead at this point.
-
I also donât think it would be a bad idea to put Enaruna on Hurt at times. His length would make it difficult to shoot over.
-
@dylans âSo youâre saying Duke fans are fair weather fansâŚunwilling to watch unless they are the favorite.â
Yup!
-
I expect them to play Zone and pressure the ball. Probably will double Doke a lot especially if he gets Carey in foul trouble
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich Our best lineup is absolutely NOT a four guard lineup. Our best lineup is a traditional 3 out, 2 in look. Selfâs hi/lo is the perfect fit. We just have to impose our will and stop saying we canât guard the 4. We can.
That doesnât mean we canât or wonât play four guards. In fact, switching it up here and there is certainly reasonable.
But to impose our will, and not be imposed upon, itâs 2 bigs all the way.
-
@HighEliteMajor How do you know what our best lineup is? Weâve played 2 exhibition games. The 4-guard 1-big lineup certainly seemed to work best in those 2 games. I think itâs a little too early to be ABSOLUTELY sure what our best lineup is. You donât know.
Nor did I ever say that the 4-1 is our best lineup. I was talking about a lineup that would be the best match-up for Duke. Great reading comprehension, though.

You asked a question, it would appear. Thus, I gave my opinion related to the answer. An answer I strongly believe to be correct based on our personnel.
While I did not say that you stated the 4/1 was best tomorrow â that goes to your reading comprehension point â your post does indicate that preference quite clearly (âvery much in favorâ. Again, though, I didnât say that. Work harder on your end.
Not sure what you were looking for and now, as I think about it, I donât care much. If you were trying to be jerk, you sure got there easily.

It indicates that preference against Duke, not against every team we play or in general.
Iâm glad you donât care. I do enjoy not having to read long-winded posts from a racist person.

Iâll need to see it to believe it with Silvio and Dave defending wings and extremely mobile 4s. The way I see it Silvio/Dave/Doke are all the same position, center.
Hurt worries me.
-
Iâm less worried about Hurt. Heâs not a super mobile stretch 4. Heâs super skilled and kind of soft with average athleticism. Silvio is certainly quick enough to hang with him. I think Silvio is a defensive 4 and an offensive 5, skill wise. Actually sort of worried about Doke getting out on the perimeter if they stretch Carey and he decides to try at basketball.
But Iâm not worried at all on the other end of the floor. If K decides to zone us weâll eat them alive on the boards and get plenty of second chance points. Watch out for a bunch of lobs behind the zone (might be a situation where Hurt gets teabaggedâŚ) I think our perimeter defense will be a shock to them as well. Tre Jones isnât a great offensive player and Moore/Stanley wonât light you up. Only risk is if a guy like Jack White or Alex OâConnell gets stupid hot.
Going to say Jayhawks 71 Rutgers South 62
-
@FarmerJayhawk can they run w/us?
-
Thing is Hurt is another four that can step some distance from the basket and drain 3âs - -w have seen how thatâs worked before where our bigâs get pulled out away â another case of a ummm our 4 against a pretty mobile four - -gonna be a challenge. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sports comment sites always seem to bring out the lunatic in all of us. Never enough to disagree. An opinion always has to be stated with utter certainty and be insultingly dismissive of any other.
Who needs family Thanksgivings for absurd drama anymore?
-
@mayjay I do it myself occasionally. We all want to be right, and itâs easier to be a little snarky when weâre anonymous. I didnât read all of what youâre referring to, but hopefully cooler heads will prevail and we can all get along.
ROCK CHALK

@Crimsonorblue22 I donât think so when weâre turned up. Hurt and Carey arenât exactly high motor guys. Moore and Stanley are A++ athletes though. We absolutely have to get back on the break.
-
@FarmerJayhawk works both ways, huh? Dok can run now!

I would pay large dollars for a poster of Doke dunking on the entire dook squad.
-
I hope hurt wears that flowing headband, probably illegal.
-
@wrwlumpy I forgot what a big game Newman had in that regional final. Well, I forgot we had a guy named Newman, TBH.
-
Ku 81 Dook 72

As long as we win I donât care how it happens or what the score is.

Agree. Let them try to match up with us, which I donât think they can. I am tired of the small ball lineups, and now that we have frontcourt depth and talent it is still our best option? I donât think so. We will beat Duke by 12 points.

Thank you! Bully the hell out of Hurt with a Silvio, Enaruna and possibly, at times, even Big Dave - keep him out of his confort zone. I have us winning by 12.
-
@BShark Hurt will score, oh, about 11, tops.
-
Just read Jesse Newellâs quick scout. He likes KU by 5, but said KenPom has Duke by 4 and Sargain has Duke by 6âŚ
The analytic rankings donât think KU is nearly as good as the humans . BPI, Ken Pom, and Sargain all have KU around 10th or soâŚ

As fun as preseason stuff is, all of these are meaningless until at least December. BPI is always meaningless.
That said I do think many people are sleeping on Duke in this oneâŚ
-
Jones is a great leader to have but if he hasnât improved his shooting heâll look human without Top 10 picks Zion, Barrett & Reddish next to him. Whoâs replacing them? Freshman? Itâs game 1 so anything can happen but I sure as heck hope these boys show up and get the W.

a better point of discussion , going to be interesting US matching up on them defensively - -the key will be if we try and play 2 bigâs - who is going to be athletic enough - -flexible quick enough to cover their 4? - -Silvo? - - McCormack? - that might get ugly - seen it happen before

I agree with you - - I think there are SOME people that think we are going to S - - - stomp them - -I just donât think that is going to happen - -Iâm looking for a game somewhere from 5-7 points probably.
One of our Major problems going to be - -if we are in a tight game - -then Doke just eliminates himself right out of the game he becomes a real liability with the game on the line or tight - -I promise you they will foul the hell out of him/gain possessions by his pathetic free throw shooting. - -Unless Doke can get that fixed that could be ONE of few issues to keep us from winning a title.
Coach wonât be able to afford to keep him in with the game tight like that - -so people need to realize this will be a year long thing. - -Every time were in a close/tight game - - Doke will be a liability on the offensive end - -somehow some way they have GOT to get this fixed
-
Just read - - - Coach Self has changed his expectations about Dokeâs FT pct. - -He had set him hoping for him to be able to hit 65 % - -he has now lowered them to 50 %
He say Doke just HAS to be able to hit 50% - he said they wonât be able to afford to have him in the game , as teams will just have that Hack a Shaq approach. - -He said Doke has been practicing tryin to get better since he has been at Ku - -said he has seen him make 19-20 in practice but said big difference between practice and game conditions.
Said just a huge mental block - -said they have to try to do/find something. - - said he isnât going to improve in a couple of days after trying ever since he has got there - - but that he will be shooting 500 free throws a day for the next couple of days - -said his shot is totally different in practice â -We wonât be able to keep him in the game - -Coach said every time - -every time will hack him until he improves - has GOT to be able to make at least 50% - -right now for the two exhibition he is at 11 % - -10 % if you count the lane violation - -there is no excuse for it being THAT bad
-
He wonât make 50%.
-
@BeddieKU23 He wonât make 50% OF 50%

Sadly to say â I have to agree. â I know many , many , moons ago when I was playing ball. - -Our coach it was a every day thing. - -We had to shoot 100 FTâS at the end of practice. - -Every one we missed was a lap around the court - -Or a shuffle - needless to say - -we were pretty dam good with our FTâS
