Really? Then why reclassify? It would be safer for him to just play high school ball and then go G-League.

NIL has changed the game. Can make some dough in college now, and Bates will make A LOT

Penny being a local hero and his path to the Memphis job is a big factor in the media’s infatuation with him.

Is Larry Brown a factor?

$ are… One thing about Larry though, he will make a difference and is a great coach. And after about three, four or five years, you will be on probation. Just ask UCLA, KU or SMU.
While college football is imo close to breaking off all ties with the NCAA, college basketball has a long way to go to be able to do that, if ever (I say it won’t, and can’t). Having said all of that, and knowing his past would you hire Larry Brown? I would not.

I saw that as well, and good for him. My question is how come none of our players are getting any deals. I know there have been a few small ones , but we need Crown Chevrolet or someone else to step it up. For as big as KU basketball is and what it brings to the local economy you’d think there would be some more deals besides Ochai getting free food at Johnnys.

Lololol you really do hate seeing that. For real though, I kind of feel bad for the kid. Waaaaaaay overhyped as a teenager and all the pressure almost made him quit the game. Now it’s apparent he peaked super early and has fringe at best NBA measurables. All this before he can buy a lottery ticket.

Bates could realize what he is and go to work, perhaps in a new environment. He’s got a lot of talent but the way he was hyped he was supposed to be transcendent and that’s not happenin’

His arms are soooo short it’s almost unreal.

Bates is probably still an NBA player. But he shouldn’t have played one second of college ball. Huge mistake by daddy.
He’s also a fresh 18, so I think most of his measurables will improve (minus reach lol).
I would take him in a heart beat if he decided he wanted to try playing somewhere besides Memphis…
