RJ Hampton

@BShark It says in the Comments section that Duke doesn’t have any scholarships left to offer. Do you know if that is true?
Duke and UK are out for Hampton in 2019.
-
@BShark We gonna land us some Hampton, Enaruna, Holyfield and Tucker. We are recruiting hard in 2020 too, so we’re going to be just fine. The above four said mentioned recruits coupled with Braun and McBride will give us a top 5 class. How does a starting lineup of Dok, Holyfield, Enaruna, Hampton and Tucker sound? Then for good measure we’ll throw in some Big Dave, Mitch (the NCAA is being totally unjust with the De Sousa handling), Agbaji, McBride and Braun. I smell a run, folks.
-
@BShark Your optimism in recruiting is the yin to your game day yang.
-
If I was a betting man, I’d say our starting lineup next season will be Dotson, Hampton, Ochai, Holyfield, Doke. But we’re still months out so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-
@FarmerJayhawk I would take that starting lineup, too.

He’s going to get poached for a Head Coaching job in the next 5 years.
-
I know we love Ochai, but we should say we have two starting spots open and one up for competition with Ochai. Give me 3 of Holyfield, Precious, Tucker, Hampton and Walker.
It would be poetic to see us end up with a stacked roster after all of this crap we’ve gone through for 2019 recruiting.
-
@Kcmatt7 Silvio not allowed to play, add Enaruna, Holyfield, RJ and Walker would be stellar. Outside of the bad situation for Silvio but I fully expect it.
-
@BShark I honestly keep forgetting about Silvio just because I have no hope…
-
RJ, Dotson, Walker backcourt with Garrett, Ochai, and small flurries of McBride off the bench. Also Braun looking handsome and knocking down 3’s in blowouts. Yes, please.
If by some miracle Silvio is allowed to play next season not only would that even further enhance our squadron, it would also provide some Doke insurance.
-
An RJ, Dotson, Walker, Silvio and Doke starting lineup may be the worst shooting lineup in the country lol.
But they’d also be salty af.
-
@Kcmatt7 we would absolutely wreck people and it would be amazing

A little like last season’s UK team, lots of athleticism and bounce, not much marksmanship.
Haven’t paid close enough attention to know how serviceable RJ & Walker are from 3.

RJ projects to be in the mid 30’s from 3, Walker high 30’s - low 40’s. Dude shot like 47% from 3 last year in HS.

Dam really tough to make call with that 5 - -couldn’t lose with any BUT I think I would have to go with : - - Holyfield - - Tucker - & slight edge of Hampton over Kyree. – just my choice - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

rj has add texas tech
-
It’s funny that Kyree shot so well, yet any film I have found doesn’t show it at all.
But stats are there to back it up. He’s shot 40% from 3 in his entire HS career on 418 attempts. 47% on 117 attempts this past season. That’s not a fluke.
-
RJ has officially reclassified to 2019. He took Duke off of his list and added Texas Tech.
-
@Woodrow - crud. They have playing time, a good coach and players, upcoming team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him there. That could be a nightmare for KU…

He’s at least a good enough shooter to make guys stay honest. 117 attempts is more than enough to show he can take and make threes. And he’s such a threat off the dribble that his jumper just needs to be adequate, not great.

Usually not a good thing when a player adds a team this late in the game. As we found out with Stanley. I also saw where he is planning on visiting the other 3 schools in May, but no mention of visiting KU… ( Unless I missed it)

KU is going in-home. He’s already visited KU officially and unofficially so visiting again would be kind redundant.
Correction: he’s saying he’ll take another unofficial over the summer.
-
Good Lord RJ is a brick layer. 27% from 3 lol.

Sounds like a good ole fashioned bidding war…

Shot selection, at least lately. His AAU team is baaaaaad.

Well just finished reading RJ’s blog off USA since he made this decision to re-classify.
I think we are still in pretty good shape , although still makes me wonder about Tech.
RJ said Duke wasn’t really showing much contact since Stanley committed and Jones coming back and Ellis committing - - He said he wants to sit down and lock down dates set for visits - -do an official to Kentucky & Texas Tech. - -Said and just get back ON CAMPUS at Memphis - -and KU - - since he had already taken officals to those Schools.
Talked again about Coach Self and Jerrance was the 1st blue blood to offer and has always been there from the beginning and they keep preaching if I come there I could be their go to guy and could help get them back to the final 4.
Said he liked how Coach Beard used his guards and give them freedom.
Said he wants to get to ALL the Schools really soon and talk to the Coaches - -and talk everything out with his family - -and make his decision.
Sounds to me like he could very easily be pushing up his decision as to where he is going to commit , by wanting to get back to these schools and talk to Coaches and then get with his family. - would not be surprised to see him move that date up. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

In the words of the great philosopher Randy Moss, “Straight cash, homie.”
Still think he goes to college though. The kids that went to China didn’t have a good time.

Yeah China seems like a terrible option. Australia seems much better tbh.

Very odd place to work from what I’ve heard. I’ve never been myself but a former boss was on a trade mission over there and did not have particularly good things to say.

No way will that happen. - I pretty dam sure his Daddy would not let that happen. - Way to many really good scenario for him here in the good ol USA
-
Family type atmosphere seems pretty important to them!
-
@jayballer73 He’s going to sign with KU. He and his father have both all but said so. We broke out the Asses From Young Lasses campaign.

The timing here seems uh uh uh pretty uh good.
-
I think things are shaping up pretty good for us to not only land RJ but be a much improved team for next season. I’m fairly confident Dot isn’t going to be a first rounder and will return for next season. If we can get Silvio cleared and stay away from sanctions, we could have a legit shot at a FF.
-
@approxinfinity I have been to Perth, great women but it is no paradise.
-
Uh, Texas Tech …
-
Although made me look a 2nd time - -still not overly concerned about Tech - -Still more worried about Memphis with the class Penny is assembling. - Just think Tech coming in WAY to late.
With the things that RJ and his dad has had to say about Ku and the staff. - his dad talking about Howard and him being like family - -how Jerrance is always there - -how he feels he can talk to him at any time -whether its 3:00 in the day - -or 3 at night. - -just like family.
How they talk about his Dad saying he feels comfortable and would not have any problem dropping RJ off at KU and feeling comfortable with it. - How RJ stating that KU has been there from day 1. - -talking about how he could be the guy we run the offense through. - -RJ come here and run the back court with Devon? - -like they were talking about that could very easily be THE BEST back court in the Nation.
You talk about timing? - -Perfect timing for Coach Self to have an in-home visit with RJ last night. - ya know? - -the team that has been there from the beginning. - -Yet even after saying this - -by a chance he doesn’t land here - -then my other choice is very interested in us - - Kyree Walker just like a article I read yesterday he is talented enough by far they describe him as a positionless type player - -that much of an athlete - -absolute Freak. - -we gonna be ok - -WITH RJ - -or Kyree - dude is a beast. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Just good business to add a 3rd bidder for your services. Especially one in Texas that can hide “benefits” a little easier than elsewhere.
-
Texas is especially good at this. Not much anyone can do to stop it either. The trials stopped nothing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the visibility of this all created more wanting their pockets filled
-
If that in-home visit was good news hallelujah. The timing of it all would certainly point in that direction.
-
@BeddieKU23 Trials have proved to be an absolute joke.
How many programs have been at least slightly implicated now? KU, Duke, Texas, Oklahoma State, Creighton, Oregon, Miami, UNC, UK, TCU, USC, South Carolina, Arizona, Depaul, Louisville, Syracuse, Michigan State, Alabama, A&M, Utah, Michigan, Cleveland State, LSU, Western Kentucky, Mississippi State, Xavier, Washington, Florida State, SMU, Arkansas, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Tulsa, ECU, Clemson, UConn, Arizona State, Penn St., Notre Dame, and Pitt.
Did I miss anyone? I’m counting 41 programs so far. Just in the trials… Yea not widespread at all.
-
What are you looking for in a school?
“Just somewhere I can say is home. Somewhere that feels like a family. I want the coach to let us play through mistakes, play early and often. If a coach lets me do that, I think I’ll be fine.”
On Kansas
“Kansas, they’ve been on me hard since my freshman year. Coach Self is a great guy. Him and coach Jerrance Howard have really talked to me the hardest about reclassifying in the 2019 class. They’re really just telling me they’re gonna have a good group of guys around me to play point guard, and off the ball.”
R.J. Hampton recruiting prediction
Kansas. The Jayhawks don’t have a superstar recruit already committed for next season, but Hampton would change that. He’d start in the backcourt likely alongside sophomore Devon Dotson to give the Jayhawks a two point guard look reminiscent of the one they once ran with Frank Mason and Devonte’ Graham. Expect the Jayhawks to be a top-10 team in the preseason polls with Hampton.
