The les miles effect in recruiting

We got Terry. My god I love that kid.

    Amazing find, imo.

  • HUGE GET.

Cole Mueller decommitted. Have to take it as a sign they have 15 better in mind.

Perhaps not necessarily next season but more likely moving forward when the staff has had a chance to recruit and the message its sends is that KU will be getting high caliber prospects and 3 star players might not see much playing time in the future.

I see what you did there. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

  • Terry could be a very interesting player for KU. Heā€™s maybe a bit of a project, but he has the physical tools to be an interior force. Even more importantly, he opens a potential secondary recruiting pipeline into Mississippi. While KU canā€™t necessarily count on always getting into a state like Mississippi for recruits, having connections there will always help, as Mississippi turns out a good amount of talent every year.

So far we have three HS players and three juco players. Parchment was previously at Northern Illinois, while Naylor committed to Kennesaw State (FCS) out of HS. That should immediately boost the offense by having a new QB and some new threats on the outside.

Still looking for some defensive signings at the juco level. Having the HS guys is good for the future, but the D could use some stabilizing forces as well with Dineen graduating.

  • Expect a lot of news these next two days. I expect 3 or 4 more guys. Definitely 2.

  • Flipped JUCO DE Caleb Sampson. Former Missouri player before JUCO.

  • 3x3 guy. Huge.

  • Iā€™d say Miles is thinking heā€™s got 15 players ready to come and thatā€™s why Mueller decommitted. We probably would have kept him if we were gonna be a man or 2 short.

  • Iā€™m surprised we havenā€™t heard anything from Jax Dineen at this point. Iā€™d say the attempts to turn Garber either failed or didnā€™t happen with the receivers we have just got. One other kid here in KS I thought we would try and turn was McCullough, 3 star safety outta Blue Valley North thats got a verbal to Miami (OH). You never whos name will come thru once the fax machine gets fired up tomorrow.

  • @kjayhawks rumor is we didnā€™t offer Jax a full scholarship, or wanted him to blue/Grey shirt.

Iā€™ve heard people bitching about the Jucoā€™s - - ( to many ) - -or not wanting that many. - -Like you said NOW at this point we have 4 Jucoā€™s - -3 High School - -true Les has offered ALOT of Jucoā€™s - -doesnā€™t mean we are signing all of them. - -I think he has done fine considering the circumstance - -getting such a late start - -this years group isnā€™t gonna knock your sock s off - -but I think it will end up a lot better then it was going to end up.

Would of liked to get another Dineen but looks like the lil kitties are going to end up with him -heard also we have really backed off Legrande -some possible head issues goin on there - -other schools backing off also.

Come 2020 class I think look out - -thinking we are gonna probably have one of our most talented groups to ever come in. Hide and Watch - - let the Wizard do this thing. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @FarmerJayhawk I havenā€™t looked up any info on him, maybe he isnā€™t good enough to be at this level. Havenā€™t heard anything outta Jay since hes been on campus either.

  • @kjayhawks I personally think heā€™s stuck at FB at this level, and not sure if weā€™re really even going to use one with any regularity. Since weā€™re stuck at 15 this cycle, it makes a ton of sense to blueshirt him if possible. Whether he wants to do that is a different story.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Iā€™d move him to LB like Joe, people forget he actually played FB for a couple of games back in 2015.

  • kjayhawks said:

I donā€™t think Jax is quick enough to play LB in the Big 12. And heā€™s really short. Joe and Jay are 6ā€™2 and Jax is maybe 5ā€™11.

  • Landed Justin Ford, 3* CB. May end up at S because of his size.

  • Didnā€™t get Dontye but I would think with adding Ford today and Agbaw tomorrow I think that makes some sense.

  • Coach Miles tweeted about 8:30 this evening - -stated: - -Looking forward to adding some special guys to the Jayhawk family tomorrow

Starks - -will be making his choice at 8:00 A.M. - -tomorrow

Agbaw - - will be making his announcement at 9:30 A.M. - - - we shall see. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @FarmerJayhawk You seem to be more educated on Jax than I am lol.

Ha! Now that school is on break i just have the opportunity to watch football to my heartā€™s content. And itā€™s a glorious thing.

  • Agbaw is official.

  • Also, all five of the juco commits (MacVittie, Naylor, Parchment, Ford and Sampson) are expected to be on campus in January and participate in Spring drills. That is a big thing when recruiting jucos, as it makes it more likely that they will be 1) eligible and 2) able to contribute next season.

Fairchild, Russell, Terry and Agbaw should all arrive in the summer.

Thatā€™s nine recruits, with a position breakdown of 1 QB, 1 TE, 2 WR, 2 DT, 3 DB.

We could still use depth on defense and along the offensive line. An impact skill player or two wouldnā€™t hurt. With six scholarships left, that gives some flexibility. Miles has ensured that this year wonā€™t be a complete disaster on the recruiting trail.

  • @justanotherfan i havent seen ny offensive linemen yet though

  • @ReggieKansas

Neither have I. KU also added Malcolm Lee, a juco defensive end. That makes 10 signings.

  • @justanotherfan When is Terry supposed to make it official?

  • I donā€™t expect any o-line until late, if we take any this year. We blueshirted quite a few this year. Terry should be this afternoon but Iā€™m still a little nervous.

  • Really good start so far with the requisite band-aid JuCo players. I will guess that future classes will depend largely on how well KU does next season; 6 wins sends a message that KU is on the rise and a few players short of being a contender which might get higher ranked prospects to consider the up and coming team. Another 2-3 win season and we are back at the usual spot. With better coaching KU could have won 5 games last season and with the improved coaching staff there is no reason not to expect at least 6 wins.

  • @justanotherfan Lee was a pretty nice snag for the staff. Most people thought he was going to Iowa. I believe he was a top 40ish JC player.

  • Another signing that was not listed earlier is Torry Locklin, a dual threat three star QB from Texas (although he grew up in New Mexico). QB of the future?

Terry is still listed as committed, though he has not signed yet.

  • KU footballā€™s 2019 recruits (ratings from Rivals; āˆš = signed)

āˆš 3-star St. Thomas Aquinas S Jayden Russell (6-2, 190)

āˆš 3-star McEachern H.S. (Ga.) CB Valerian Agbaw (5-10, 170)

āˆš 3-star Mesa C.C. (Ariz.) QB Thomas MacVittie (6-5, 225)

āˆš 3-star Iowa Central C.C. WR Ezra Naylor (6-4, 210)

āˆš 3-star Golden West Coll. (Calif) CB Justin Ford (6-1, 180)

āˆš 3-star Iowa Western C.C. DE Malcolm Lee (6-5, 270)

āˆš 2-star Coahoma C.C. (Miss.) DL Caleb Sampson (6-4, 285)

āˆš 2-star Iowa Central C.C. WR Andrew Parchment (6-2, 185)

    ā€¢ 2-star Meridian H.S. (Miss.) DL Daā€™Jon Terry (6-3, 345)

āˆš 2-star Andale High TE Mason Fairchild (6-5, 250)

āˆš 2-star Rochdale H.S. (Texas) QB Torry Locklin (6-2, 195)

Grayshirt last year. Not sure we have any clue what we have with him yet. Get him here for spring and see what happens.

  • @dylans I LOVE IT!!!

I think we are going to like Locklin down the road - -a real dual threat -he was right about 2500 yards passing ā€“ 2500 yard rush both just a hair under 2500 - -like 32 TDā€™s looks like be a nice 4 YEAR player for us - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Heā€™s a year out of HS, but he still has 4 years of eligibility. With MacVittie already here, could he be a candidate for a redshirt if he doesnā€™t win the QB battle out of spring practice?

  • So Ol Les snuck this is on us lmao - -he some were worry about the commit of big boy not coming - -but in reality he just wanted to hold off until Wednsday to make it official with I think he said his Coachā€™s.

Didnā€™t mean he hadnā€™t signed his LOI - just the Coach didnā€™t say any thing about it so as to comply with the kids request - -canā€™t blame him for that - -still glad we know he is coming for sure. - - - Ol Les being sneaky lo - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @FarmerJayhawk I was able to speak to one of my inside sources to KU this week with the holiday. He told me Jax was offered to be a preferred walk-on and was not happy. I was told the Dineens dad was escorted out of the football complex after a heated exchange with Les Miles.

    Interesting.

I understand that the Dineenā€™s are a legacy at KU and thereā€™s no doubt they have been good players and ambassadors for KU. That said, itā€™s not clear KU is going to use a FB heavily in their offense (Jax position). If Jax were going to move to LB, I could see that, but his best position is FB. That makes KU a difficult fit for him.

Itā€™s unfortunate that KU and the Dineenā€™s couldnā€™t work this out, but with only 15 scholarships this season, they all count.

  • @kjayhawks

Difficult situation. When several generations of the family have played for KU I will guess they expected some preferential treatment that apparently Miles was not willing to give. While I understand that the coach has to look for the best players available, given that there are scholarships available, perhaps a good will gesture would have gone a long ways and it is possible that the local pipeline might have been damages in the process.

As much as we ( KU )had our relationships with the Dineenā€™s and the guys have been really good for us - -just have to wonder on the other hand - -What? - -if Coach just feels we donā€™t or canā€™t afford to use a Scholi for Jax - -thatā€™s wrong not to offer? - - If Coach doesnā€™t feel like he is at that point where he feels like he can use one on Jax then so be it.

I think at this point I trust his judgement more at this point. Yes Jax is a local kid - - yes the Dineens have played well for KU - -But from what I understand Jax is more of a fullback type - - -Ku doesnā€™t use the fullback very much in our scheme - -just not a good fit.

Wouldnā€™t you think for him you would want him to go somewhere that he fits - -such as K-State - they implement the fullback quite a bit in their scheme - -perfect fit - -I would want him to be happy - -not just because well my brothers both went here so you owe us for him. - - doesnā€™t work that way -think this works out for both actually

  • My thought is with him being undersized, playing at a seldom used position and us only having 15 scholarships, maybe we just couldnā€™t take him.

If it was a bigger class with closer to the full 25, you could do that. Les Miles is not in the business of kissing ass though, heā€™s in the business of winning football games and has to be very selective in this recruiting class because itā€™s only 60% of a regular class size.

This also says that KU will be running Chip Lindseyā€™s offense and Les Miles offense because Miles absolutely utilized a fullback more than just about any other P5 program not named Georgia Tech. Were KU running Les Miles pro style system, Jax wouldā€™ve been one of the first players offered by Miles.

With all this said, I do wonder if Jay Dineen will transfer out due to this.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Honestly it sounds like a little bit of ā€œMy baby is the best and Iā€™m too proudā€ to me. Itā€™s not like he had tons of D1 offers, I believe KU was the only power 5 team with him on their radar. Jay has decent size but Iā€™m not sure heā€™s been on the field to this point. Iā€™ve heard that there is another little brother besides Jax, that supposedly the best of the bunch.

  • @kjayhawks special teams, didnā€™t he get his bell rung?

  • @kjayhawks

Looks like KSU had him on its radarā€¦

  • @JayHawkFanToo I didnā€™t realize he had signed with KSU wow, but yes KU and KSU were the only power 5 offers he had. Most were FCS, Iā€™d be shocked to see him on the field much for at least 2 years.

  • Who was that guy on that one site who boldly (and at the time preposterously) predicted - after the Miles hire - that KU would win a national championship in football within five years? I very seriously doubt that. What say you, folks?

LMAO ā€“ I think the Chances of KU EVER winning the National Championship in foot ball is about like me becoming the President in the next 10 years.

Now thatā€™s not saying Les canā€™t bring us back to respectibilty in the next 5 years - -get us to bowl games in the next 5 years - -possibly even might get to the point of challenging for the big 12 - -but the National Championship in the next 5 years? - - -umm - -donā€™t think thatā€™s happening. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73

With the way that the college football playoff is set up, if KU were to challenge for and win the Big 12, they would have a shot at the national title. Being in a P5 conference means that winning the conference could get them into the playoff with a chance to win the whole thing.

  • @justanotherfan KU could win the Big 12 and still not sniff the CFP. Texas went into the B12 title game at 9-3 this year. Had they beaten OU a second time this year, they still wouldnā€™t have sniffed the CFP as they were ranked 14th going into that game. They werenā€™t moving up 10 spots.

Even though the 2nd place team has been 7-2 since the return of the game. I donā€™t think itā€™ll be all that uncommon for a 6-3 record to make the B12 title game. Itā€™ll probably be a 3 way tie or something like that to get a 6-3 record in the B12 title game so KU could get there in a few years and if they get lucky with tie breakers.

I donā€™t see KU making the CFP because the B12 schedule doesnā€™t allow for something like 2007 to happen anymore. I donā€™t think KU wouldā€™ve beaten OU that year anyway.
