Other Games Tonight

@KirkIsMyHinrich Exceeding expectations is relative. OU and TTU have a couple of decent wins each, but other than KU’s wins over MSU and Tennesses and UT’s over UNC, the B12 is lacking top 20 types of victories. B10 and ACC are way ahead in quality wins at this point…
-
@BShark G Mason.
-
-
The Big 10 is 9-2 for the weekend, the ACC 3-3 with only the Notre Dame-UCLA game left, the Big 12 is 4-2.
-
@BShark I don’t thinks it’s the flukiest top 5 maybe, KSU really only had to play UK to that point and really should’ve made the final four. George Mason and VCU were flukiest. VCU is probably number 1 because no one even had them in the tournament to start with.

@Woodrow Bad loss for KSU and the B12. Tulsa lost to SIU, Nevada and Utah. Their only decent wins are against Okie State and now KSU. B12 has taken it on the chin since Thanksgiving. Virtually no quality wins since and a few bad losses.
Certainly no shame in losing to Nevada - -ranked # 6 in the Nation - ALOT of teams will lose to team -Utah is so so – SIU would for sure be the one that you would consider as a bad loss. – ROCK CHALK AL DAY LONG BABY

Tennessee new #1 tomorrow?

Wont be ku

Great win for Tennessee at a neutral site and by extent it helps KU. Only team with a somewhat realistic expectation to go unbeaten is now Nevada.
-
Top 5 game I’ve seen so far this season.

Here’s Admiral’s quote. This appears to be a crosssection of what he really feels, and what his coach has told him to feel. Classic…epic …sports quote:
“Honestly, in reality, it’s a big statement,” Schofield said. “We’re not going to act like it’s not a big deal. For us, it’s not. We’re only playing in December. We’re not playing for championships in December, you’re playing for championships in March.”
Translation: Hell yes, we’re excited…but coach wants us to know we didn’t just win the NCAAs, so we still have to keep going…LOL.

South Dakota State scored 90 points in the FIRST HALF! Up 92-37 over Savannah State with 18 minutes left. Wow… (can’t find a box score anywhere, but tweets verify the score).
-
Bragg still on new Mexico’s team?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes. Hasn’t played.

Ask and you shall receive, here is the box score…

Saw the highlights of the SD St game. Savannah State looks like a nice team to practice against. I mean any team that gives up 90 in a half is probably not worthy of being a D-1 school. South Dakota St was enfuego though, 35-46 shooting in that half
-
@BeddieKU23 Man, giving up 23 out of 34 3 ptrs is really going to hurt Savannah State’s defensive efficiency score. The likely fall in their NET rating just might end their April hopes.
-
Savannah State also missed 40 out of 52 3 pt attempts. If they had made them instead at an above average rate of, say, 40%, they could have scored 27 more points. And lost by only 40. Fool’s gold?

Texas tech. outscored Northwestern State 53-10 in the first half on its way to a 79-44 win. Looks like lots of players got to play extended minutes.

jumpin – gee - -hossa - -fats. - - Did Northwestern even come out of the locker room? - -did game officials not let them know the game was starting lol. - - BUT SERIOUSLY , you know what - - what good does a game like this help anybody? - -
I know we have had some games like this too in the past - -but what does a game like this accomplish anyways - -just not sure what the benefit of games like these accomplish - - glorified practice , the other team gets a decent little payout but what does teams like Texas Tech and others get out of this ? -A false sense of security of how good they are – or think they are? - -Sometimes I think games like these actually hurt a team more then help - - just me. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 Grimes could use a couple of those games IMHO.
-
@dylans The fact that we haven’t had those games is due, in part, to Grimes not making it happen.
-
@mayjay KU really hasn’t played that caliber of competition either.
-
Ron Baker was cut by the Knicks. Great Kansas kid; hopefully he gets another shot with a less dysfunctional team.
-
@dylans Good “purnt”!
-
Watched some of the WV Florida game replay. Did you know Konate is 9/21 from 3 this year?

Well yes that’s true -but if he is in a deep of rut as it’s looking then -I’m not sure even those would help
-
@jayballer73 yikes. Hope not
-
Yeah he’s been trying to expand his range for the NBA. Hope he takes about 10 a Game against us and clanks them all.
-
Gonzaga/North Carolina should be fun Sat. 6 PM Central on ESPN2. I’ve been impressed with Gonzaga’s athleticism. No more giant lumberjack centers dominating the Zags game.

Yep. Hate everything about Syracuse and especially Gerry McNamara.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich I second that emotion!! Can not stand the orange.
-
Might have to add UNC to the list of teams that could beat the Cleveland Cavaliers after tonight.
-
WVU now 6-4. Could they be the worst team in the Big 12?
-
Absolutely possible they just don’t have the guard play to keep up with that style of play
-
Oklahoma St was blown out last night by Nebraska. 2nd half belonged to the Cornhuskers
How good is St Johns? 10-0 and have played an absolute powder puff schedule. They have a very talented starting 5 but 10-0 inflates their profile a bit to reality.
TCU 8-1 and a team I think is on the rise since getting back two key starters. 5 guys is double figures a night is going to help them going forward.
Houston is also 10-0, they are very good again this year. They should be favored heavily to win their next 5 games at least. They might win their next 10 with how the schedule is looking. Could be the last undefeated team standing in a month or so.
-
Oklahoma State is not good at all and Nebraska is arguably the third best team in the Big 10. I agree that St. John’s schedule is as soft as it gets but none of the computer polls rank them very high either; Virginia’s schedule, on the other hand, is equally bad and they are ranked in the top 5 of just about every poll. Nevada has the best chance to be the last unbeaten team left since they have likely played the toughest portion of their schedule.
-
I think Nevada will drop a game before Houston. Nevada nearly lost to South Dakota St in a game Daum had probably his worst game of his career so Nevada was lucky to escape that one. Also I saw a stat that its been a very long time since a Mountain West team lost fewer then 2 conference games. Will be interesting to see if Nevada will have the motivation in conference play as they have put themselves on the map for an at-large bid.
St Johns has talent, at least 2 NBA talents. But to this point we know nothing about them. Immediate schedule doesn’t provide any answers either
-
Nevada has not much competition moving forward. Their two toughest games will be against Utah State and Fresno State which are ranked #52 and #65 by Pomeroy. Their best win was over Arizona State at a neutral location and against South Dakota at home and I will guess that their pre-conference schedule was much tougher than the upcoming conference schedule.
Houston has a tough game against Utah State followed by 2 easy games coming up but it gets harder after that with games against Tulsa, Memphis, Temple, Wichita State, SMU and South Florida and while none is great team, they are all capable of having good nights and beating good teams like Houston. Tulsa can be very good and is 2-0 against Big 12 teams.
-
Yeah on paper Nevada looks like they could be undefeated through conference play but History says they slip up somewhere and having seen a few of their most recent games I’m not about to call them dominate. The MWC is definitely down this year which helps their case.
Houston is a bit underrated I think, great depth, good defense and they have excellent guard play which is going to help them out in the AAC. The AAC is also down. I think Feb 7th against a good defensive UCF team on the road could be where they slip up first. Sampson has a good squad again.
Both teams could run the table although I’d expect both lose along the way.
-
@BeddieKU23 Houston is a solid club, I watched them lose to Michigan after KU played last season in the round of 32. They returned a few of those guys, that Rob Gray kid they had last season was impressive. The only reason Michigan had a chance was Houston missed 3 of their last 4 FTs.
-
Was that the guy with man-bun? He was super annoying.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yes, Gray was the guy with a man bun lol
