Jake Weingarten on Twitter is saying Kyree Walker might reclassify to 2019, with KU and Arkansas being the leaders. Additional comment is that KU now has a chance to land two 5* guards this year. Interesting…

    The other is RJ Hampton.

I’d be ok with this. He looks like a multi-year guy to me though. I don’t know what he thinks he is, but he’s a little rough around the edges.

Great size. College ready physique. Decent athlete. Plays with a physicality. Handles are roughhhh. Pretty good finisher. Not shooting .400 from 3, but better shooter than JJ. Goes after rebounds.

Looks to me like a modern day 4 man not really a wing.

That is a good point about merging into one. 247 and Scout did it recently but even that pool of fans was one-sided in size with the Phog having way more. I don’t think many on here would stick around if this place one day merged with the Phog. Nightmare over there and takes away from some of the people that post on there that actually are good.

Basically 90% of this board would not last on the Phog. I agree.

Phog was around before this place. I chose here for a reason. Thanks @approxinfinity !

  • Walker is a lot like Tucker honestly. Big, physical wings with very good athleticism who can really stroke it. Last year Walker shot 47% from 3 and 77% from the line in HS ball. Dude can play, and is a great fit at the 3 for us. But yeah, he and Tucker can’t play together since that would leave only Dotson on the ball.

  • @FarmerJayhawk Exactly what this program needs a lot of. Athletic guys who can shoot.

  • Going to be tough to beat out Arkansas but I’d take Walker in a second.

Same. No guarantee he’s a one and done either.

  • I don’t think reclassing is done for 2019 yet by a long shot. You’d be dumb to be in that 2021 draft if you can be in the 2020 draft instead. I wonder how many more guys are able to do it. Just going down the ESPN 60 list:

    • Mobley
    • Hampton
    • Johnson
    • Brown
    • Barnes
    • Boston
    • Todd
    • Cunningham
    • Christopher
    • Suggs
    • Walker
    • Roach
    • Brakefield
    • Dante
    • Juzang
    • Williams
    • Cooper

Yea I’m done. Like 90% of the top guys are old enough. I expect several more names to start popping up.

Tell the good ones to come on over! 🙂

  • Yes! Thanks, @approxinfinity! I’m not sure there are any good ones left over there, though…

  • @BeddieKU23 Mr. Hampton (yes, he is already pro - being paid) will be going to KU.

  • @BeddieKU23 Dotson will not be coming back. The starting line-up for next season will be Dok, De Sousa, Agbaji, Hampton and Tucker - McCormick, Holyfield, Enaruna, McBride and Braun coming off the bench.

  • @Marco source? Gut?

  • Clairvoyance and scrying.

  • We suck if Dotson isn’t back.

If you are right on all that I’ll buy you a beer Marco. :p

    HE WILL

  • I’ll try and say this Again - maybe more simply - - DEVON DOTSON - - - is NOT GOING ANYHWERE this year. - he is using this for an informational tool. - Finding out where his weakness is according to the NBA.

He had a Solid year - not a GREAT year but a solid year. - He knows he needs to improve yet in area’s - -More consistency with his shooting. - -His 3 pt shot needs to improve - if you look back most of his 3’s were wide open 3’s - -that won’t happen in the NBA - most of the time last year he was so wide open on 3’s he had time to set his feet plant and shoot.

Question is can he create his own shot? - can he get his jumper of the dribble? - Ya he can drive - but can he consistency get his shot when he wants. - -He could tighten up some yet with his Handle - -at times a little loose with the ball - These are things that he will get feed back on.

He comes back next year works has another Solid year he can work himself into a middle or lower 1st round possibly. - -He tries this year would be a middle 2nd round - -DEVON will be back - well if he has any sense he will. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @approxinfinity No source, just a gut.

  • @BShark Okay, I’ll take you up on that.

  • @jayballer73 I respect your opinion, but I don’t think that Dotson can much improve his stock, I really don’t. Hell, look at what Frank did his senior year and he was still a second rounder, ditto for Devonte.

  • @marco I agree that he probably can’t improve his stock much, but he is a pretty efficient shooter and I think he understands that he is only effective when it’s in rhythm and wide open. I don’t see him changing that approach to try to wow anyone with his shooting ability.

I think what we will get is a stronger, smarter leader for the team when he returns after the draft (and I totally think he is coming back). I would be willing to say that Dotson isn’t really ever going to be a starting NBA PG with his lack of size. Frank was insane and had athleticism like I’ve never seen and what did that get him? I think it’s likely we have at least one, maybe two more years. He is a perfect college 1. If he goes to the draft, I couldn’t help but expect to see him go LATE or be left on the board after the second round.

I would fall back a little on the Frank/Dotson comparisons. Dotson is 6’2, not 5’11 and Height does matter. I’d be interested in seeing what Dotson’s Wingspan is compared to Frank’s as well. Frank made up for his height by being a world class athlete at 5’11.

Dotson was already a better defender coming to KU then when Frank left KU. Dotson will hold his own defensively from what I’ve seen of him.

Where they are similar is they both came to College as more of a scoring guard then PG. Dotson’s role at KU changed over the course of the season and by seasons end Self was relying on his offense more then anything. Frank was always juggling being a team manager and a scorer. Dotson has to improve his PG skills if he’s going to stick at the next level. He should absolutely watch film on Cassius Winston and how he runs Michigan St. Winston doesn’t have blurring speed like Dotson does but his feel for the game and his ability to get to certain spots on the court are almost impossible to stop. I think Dotson can improve on everything coming back. Shooting from the perimeter, mid-range, we saw very little in his arsenal outside of straight line drives to the hoop. Does he have a floater? He’s far ahead of where Frank was after his freshman year. Another year could definitely get him into the 1st round potentially.

  • @BeddieKU23 I’d compare Dotson to Damian Lillard and would say he will always be more of a scoring lead guard in that respect. Lillard raised his freshman scoring ppg of 11 to 20 his sophomore year. I think Dotson could raise his similarly from 12 to 20 if he comes back.

Good points. I do agree that I see Dotson always being a scoring guard. There’s nothing wrong with it either, Winston for example however found a balance between the two his Jr year which is why I believe if Devon watched his film he could definitely learn a few things. I also don’t think its out of the question he raises his scoring from 12 to 20. He’s capable and with all that left this season he’s the most likely person to step up and take on more. I hope he lives in the gym working on his shooting and confidence in his game this summer. Same for Ochai.

  • uk ku duke and Memphis are all watch rjhampton14 right now

  • @woodrow this is the news I want to hear. Also f AZ

  • He wants the ball in his hands🤔

  • @BShark

Has good size, very long arms. Has to have a 6’9 wingspan I’m guessing. We offer?

He’s blowing up and should end up top 70 across the board.

KU has been keeping tabs. Michigan is also involved. I don’t think KU has offered yet. I think he is going to end up in a major conference now.

  • He’s rail, string bean thin right now. Long term prospect.

  • So this Kyree Walker thing could happen. We’ll take the first of him and Tucker.

  • Why not both?

  • I just hope that it all shakes out. Sign someone, please…

  • Enaruna began his official visit yesterday. Hopefully Miami and Creighton weren’t able to drop off the cash

  • dylans said:

    Why not both?

No room for two guys that are both immediate starter level.

@FarmerJayhawk Seen a lot of good things about Walker. It’s gotta be us or Arkansas you think but we’ve been here before with a Hillcrest Prep player…

I think the real question is can KU match the offer. Also if that stuff about him wanting to play a lot right away isn’t fluff KU might not be the best choice for him.

  • “Bill Self said he needs a point guard and a point guard that can do a lot of things," Walker said. "I’m 6-6, 230, so at my weight and my height there’s not a lot of guards [like me].”

    👀

Saying he needs a point guard makes it sound like Dotson isn’t returning. Not a scenario we’d like to have

Miami still has the most immediate playing time to sell. I can’t imagine any kid in the Top 100 saying they want to come in and sit the bench but if playing time is truly a factor yeah KU probably isn’t where he goes

I think this is just Slick Billy at work.

  • It would only hurt Bill Self if he started lying to recruits. K can lie right to their faces and turn around and get the #1 class the next season.

I would have to say I think he is probably right - -really big boy and has or seems to have it all - -when he attacks the rim - - - LOOK OUT

I just really have a hard time seeing Devon in the NBA at this point. - -Had a really good year - -but still has things to improve on - -think where is the case with some where with them coming back - just doesn’t help them a lot - -BUT in Devon’s case – I think coming back for his Soph year would improve his NBA stock dramactically. - I think he has a great shot in the NBA and have a nice career -

I mean maybe Coach obviously knows more - -maybe he is sticking -but as good as a year he had - -think it might be a mistake from going from a midle 2nd round to quite possibly coming back and becoming a late 1st round. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

The only KU level starter on the team right now is Dok. (Adbaji might be hurt or he may have been playing out of his head at first and came back to earth, Dotson may be gone, Garrett is a backup, McBride and Braun -not ready yet, McCormack is a year away) Plenty of room for 2 starter quality guards. And we both know if Cal or K wanted an extra body it wouldn’t be an issue. We’ve got to get back to the good old days of having high quality players like TRob waiting on the bench for their turn.

  • As muc as I would love to have RJ - -I’m afraid that Calipari getting involved even though they have so much returning that some how he will be able to manipulate twist words around to sway Hampton. - His daddy was talking about being impressed by Kentucky but still non comital but Hell RJ is not even going to decide I read about is not even going to make his decision about re classifying until in July and then probably choose his College in August.

So I love RJ BUT if Kyree wants to Commit and it’s earlier - like others have said I’m taking the first to commit - -I am not going to put Kyree on hold to see what turns out with RJ - for sure not willing to let Kyree get away and hope for the possibility of RJ

  • @dylans The staff expects Dotson to return.

@Kcmatt7 Yeah I don’t think Self is lying here per se. THREE HEADED HYDRA PG LETS GOOOO.

  • @BShark I do too, but that’s only one starting guard with another 2-3 starting guard spots depending on team make up. Plenty of pt for more quality guards.

  • dylans said:

I don’t think you can add RJ, Walker and Tucker. Honestly though it sure seems like Tucker is Auburn bound anyway, and UNC is involved as well.

  • I wasn’t factoring in RJ. W/o RJ I see no reason KU couldn’t land Walker and Tucker. With RJ it could get crowded. Walker and Tucker compliment the pieces we have better though. RJ, Garrett, and Dok couldn’t play together - the lane would be choked shut!
