@BShark be proud to call him a son or a Jayhawk!
-
@BShark He blows me away. And he can shoot.
-
McBride dropped 58 pts in a game recently, broke a 25 year school record.
-
Here is video of the 3 games. The last one he had 58 inā¦ absolute stud.

Self looked at the roster and was like āoh shit, need some shootunā which was definitely acquired with the two signees.
I have almost no doubt that Self will massacre the league and make a tournament run with RS JR Agbaji, JR Braun, JR McBride and whoever else is added to that future roster.

Agree, McBride has that assassin shooting streak in him. Really gets up on those jumpers which will help him playing bigger guys. I think he plays immediately

The legend of McBride growsā¦
Didnāt miss a shot in the first half. Then he got hurt and the other team took the lead. He came back in and couldnāt quite lead them to a comeback win.
-
my expert impression: he sure falls down a lot after shooting threes, but he drives like a boss
-
Might come in handy, 4 point playsā¦

Walking bucket. Give him an inch of space and heās pulling up and putting it in the net.

I donāt think he will be quite ready for that as a FR. But he can likely contribute next year. If just for his shot making alone.
-
@BShark shooters? Be nice!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 McBride and Braun are really good shooters so lets hope the rest of their games are good enough.
-
@BShark I think McBride may be quick enough to defend next season. I do not have that same thought of Braun at the momentā¦ To me he looks like the redshirt candidate Ochai was supposed to look like this season.

After watching clips of McBride and seeing Braun play I totally agree. McBride if he is quick enough to defend will absolutely play because the rest is there with him. Only caveat with Braun is if he really is tall enough he could play some spot duty at the 4. Thatās not a world I want to live in though.
-
I hope Braun proves to be good enough to play next yr as a spot up shooter. We need both to make buckets.
-
@BeddieKU23 perhaps. I think the only truly bad shooter will be Garrett. I am fairly hopeful that Grimes will take a step forward in that regard.
-
-
We will take all of that 47% 3 point shooting next yr. Stud!

McBride and Braun = splash bros

@BShark Iād rather just have him and d dot! Sick of this dad!
-
@BShark heās use to wearing rings!
-
One thing is nearly for sure ā¦ weāll be grumbling about Garrettās shooting until he departs. But that grumbling depends on the cast around him. We barely complained in 2017-18 because he had a reasonable role. Starting, 25-30 minutes? Thatās where heads explode.
Shooters please.

I think we need RJ to bridge a year, but I get your point.
@HighEliteMajor This kid certainly fits the bill. Not sure heās ready for big minutes as a FR though.
-
My take? A starting PGā¦
-
@Marco As a JR/SR sure.

Just realized that is premium and I donāt really see why sooo
Yes, Issac āMackeyā McBride is excited to arrive on campus.
āYes sir, very excited,ā McBride quickly corrects.
The three-star combo guard and one of the early-signing members of KU basketballās 2019 class is the No. 131-ranked player in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 22-ranked combo guard nationally. He was discovered by KU assistant Kurtis Townsend in a similar fashion to how Townsend found Frank Mason, but heās more than just a good story.
McBride chose Kansas for a reason. He wants to get better.
A lot better.
The first steps of that improvement will begin this summer. In a recent phone call with Phog.net, McBride talked about the things heās looking forward to upon arriving on campus. Unsurprisingly, there were quite a few things he mentioned.
āPretty much the summer workouts, individuals and even with the team, but just trying to get better because the ultimate goal of why I decided to come to Kansas was to develop myself and try to be even better than I am right now at every aspect of the game," McBride said. "And also getting acclimated to campus and whatās around it, and knowing the people around there, getting to know them a little better.ā
McBride, a 6-1, 170-pound combo guard, has spoken to Phog.net about his basketball philosophies and how they have been shaped by analytics ā at least his mentality of attacking and making sure heās taking the shots that get his team the most value. He thinks through the game like a point guard ā or perhaps a coach ā even when the coaches arenāt asking him to.
āI watched a lot [of KU last year] and was trying to see what I could do and work on to make an impact early on," McBride said. āI tried to look at specific sets, but coach told me not to worry about trying to look at plays and stuff because it changes every year. Offensively, theyāll try to put in new stuff. But I watched a lot of it.ā
He was looking for the details, but he still was a fan at heart.
āIt was kind of hard because even though I wasnāt there, I would get nervous,ā McBride said. "But I just tried to watch and open my mind up and explore all the stuff that was in front of me on the floor.ā
So then, McBride might not be a top-100 ranked recruit, but he absolutely possesses the mentality of a Day 1 contributor.
In fact, one of the Day 1 contributors from last season, Devon Dotson, has already been in his ear a little bit. The two have discussed topics off the court, and McBride has also linked up with Christian Braun, among others either on or joining the team, on social media.
Through all his conversations with players and staff members, heās found things to take away. But he also recognizes there are going to be things he canāt quite prepare for.
āThey just told me to come ready to work,ā McBride said of the staff. "I donāt think any of the freshmen know exactly whatās going to happen, but you just come with the mindset and mentality that every day Iām going to try to become better at everything in life, whether itās on the court or what weāre doing in our classes. Thatās the type of mentality they tell us to come with. Just try and get better and work hard every day.ā
And yes, McBride is embracing that advice, both on and off the court.
āI feel like as much as Iāll have time around Coach Townsend, Coach Self and Coach Howard and Coach Q and all the coaches on the staff,ā McBride said, āI feel like Iāll learn a lot more about the game.ā

Thatās our future PG.

cool story. big fan of him already. I do think he plays next year as a bit of spark plug offense. Might have a role similar to what Vick did earlier in his career

I could see us needing that. I think heād be a great fit at the 2 next to Devon. Adds another shooter and he has incredible range.

Indeed. He might be only 6ā1 but he jumps high on his shot. I love this kids play making ability and I think he carves out a role. How he defends probably decides if heās the immediate back up to Devon
-
@BeddieKU23 Just found out that he apparently shot 48% from three this last season.
We might need him as a secondary ball handler this year.

I like him enough to say that weāre not going to need to recruit another starting PG for awhile.

Donāt get me wrong, I like McBride a lot. I just think heās a better canned offense option off the bench for a couple years. And Daishen Nix is a STUD

Yes he is extremely likable. Have a feeling he goes down as someone we talk about for years to come

With guys ranked in this range, I tend to take a wait and see approach. I think Braun and McBride will both translate well to the college game, but I thought we would get more out of Anrio Adams and Brannen Greene than we did, too. McBride could be Frank Mason, or he could be Naadir Tharpe (on the court). Itās hard to project guys in that range because the outcomes are so broad. Some guys ranked there end up as All Americans and NBA players. Others wash out without ever making an impact.
Both Braun and McBride seem to be smart, thoughtful, hardworking players. That should help
-
The more I hear about Braun the more I like him. Heās going to need a year or two, but if he can add good weight and play at 6ā8 205-210, look out. His skill level is really good. And may develop into a really good shooter.
-
Itās wise to take a wait see approach with ever player. It is hard to project, period. I though weād get more out of presumed OAD Alexander, presumed OAD Diallo, presumed OAD Grimes, and presumed OAD Selby. On the other hand, presumed OAD X, presumed OAD Wiggins, and presumed OAD Jackson performed fine.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Do you think he has potential to be Svi like his jr/sr years?
-
@rockchalkwyo theyāre different players, but I think thatās his ceiling. Braun has better ball skills at this point than Svi did, but Svi was the better pure shooter. Hard to say how Braun will develop for sure. Not sure heāll ever be as good a shooter as Svi (whoās legit elite at this point). Struggling to come up with a great comp at this point but Svi isnāt a bad one.
