Is this why people like @crimsonorblue and @highelitemajor dislike the KC Star?

Who is this Sam Mellinger chump?

  • @wissox Mellinger is a complete donk.

  • @wissox I really liked that article. Much more balanced than I expected from Mellinger. And his bottom line to Huggins amounted to: Prove it or suck it up. Liked that!

  • WVU 35 FTAs

    KU 2 FTAs

These are the facts that matter.

Huggins has nothing to prove. The burden of proof is NOT on Huggins.

Its the referees that have some explaining to do.

    How could this happen?

    Maybe they can explain it.

    Maybe they cannot.

But IMHO the Director of Big 12 officiating ought to review this game, and ask them to explain it, if only to clear the appearance of stench away from this game and the Big 12 conference?

  • @mayjay his line about KU getting more calls than any school in the country irked me.

  • He answered his own question by stating WV had 6 shot attempts at the rim. Bilas himself pointed out several obvious calls against WV that weren’t called. Did KU get a couple of weak fouls and a few no calls? Sure, most the time the home team gets a few in the sport wether anyone wants to admit it or not. Remember when Staten forearmed Mason to the floor and travelled for a game winning hoop in Morgantown? Huggy didn’t have a problem with that then, I honestly think once he sees the tape and how much they settled for jump shots he’ll see it wasn’t a terrible officiated game. Remember to start the season it was troubling that KU couldn’t get to the line?, we were shooting 40 plus jump shots a game. Now we have started driving the ball more and playing thru Doke. Heres a fun fact for the cry babies, in 27 games KU has shot more fts that their opponents just 8 times this season.

Let’s be real for a minute on “Press Virginia”, if you play defense longer and further away from the hoop than other teams, you’d think the law of averages would put you a hand full of fouls more in most games. If a guy wanted to be picky with the freedom of movement and automatic foul when a defender puts 2 hands on a guy, you could call a foul 3or 4 times in one trip and not be wrong. The fouls shots read 35 to 2 but that isn’t the whole story ether, KU shot 4 technical shots and was fouled twice on purpose in the final minute to realistically have 27 attempts. WV also missed a front of a one and one while KU didn’t miss a front end that remember in this game. With the way most coaches do stats that matter we actually out shot them 27 to 3 at the line. Which is still a big difference but that’s all on WV for settling for jump shots. I don’t think there were that many questionable no calls, maybe two that I can think of.

  • Should we blame the refs? Isn’t this what Huggins loves to do? To have his team foul so much that he guilts the refs into calling fouls on the other team to average things about. I don’t know? Maybe the refs got this one right? Maybe the refs sent a message to Huggins? If you kids foul we are going to call fouls and we are not going to feel guilty about it.

I find it kind of comical that a coach that makes a living of turning a basketball game into a street fight, is complaint about fouls. Priceless.

  • More often than not, when a team is in brawl mode the game normalizes around the standard they set and the more physical team gets to continue to beat on the other team as the refs swallow their whistles. In this case, the refs normalized the other way by not calling fouls against us, maybe because we appeared to be under control by comparison. I don’t think more than one or two calls against WV were wrong. And several fouls went uncalled against them. The advantage we got was on calls that didn’t get called on us. I still think this is a calculated risk that WV takes by brawling, and it didn’t work in their favor.

  • @jaybate-1.0

You are taking two numbers and looking at them out of context. Look at my posts on the other threads and you will see the numbers are not that unreasonable or out of the norm.

  • @DoubleDD Ask Fran! 😂

  • @jaybate-1.0

“And if so, is it out of line considering that only six of West Virginia’s 61 field-goal attempts were at the rim?”

    Shooting fouls create more FTA.

    Fact.

Story of our non-conference games. Self set out to change our approach and increase our FTA’s. It has been referenced nearly every pre-game the change in Devonte’s FTA.

  • The FT disparity looks bad in a really close game. That’s not something we can argue. If we had that type of disparity against us, we would be upset, so I get where WVU is coming from.

  • @Buster-1926 He goes overboard to prove that he isn’t biased for KU. Super weird.

    No I am not.

Exactly - - no more needs to be said then just that. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • It’s kinda funny I was just checked Dooks box scores for this year and they have shot more fts in all but 3 games. Several games they shot over 40 fts to a team that shot single digits, you’ll never see an article on ESPN questioning this but to say KU is the only school or the most likely school to get called is a load crap.

  • @kjayhawks good looking out!

  • @kjayhawks Yep I mentioned this. I saw one +30 FTA game and a couple more close to that.

  • I actually forgot WV not only missed a front end but also had 2 lane violations so they messed up 3 of their own attempts to start with.

  • Somebody looked up the teams ahead of us, need to find that.

  • Per @kenpomeroy KU has the 38th best home foul advantage in recent seasons.

I have a KP account. I looked it up. I’m pretty sure I’m on the right page. So what B12 teams get friendlier calls at home than KU?

    #27 OU #23 KSU #14 OSU #10 WVU #6 TTU #1 ISU

    BUT BUT BUT ASK FRAN

  • I would argue that Huggins is neither a “terrific coach” nor does he possess “one of the country’s great dry senses of humor”. I would characterize him as sarcastic and insulting, but not a person with a witty and dry sense of humor.

  • @SlickRockJayhawk He is a boorish drunk.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 , where does KP have UT, TCU and Baylor?

  • @Gorilla72 that’s all the info the guy posted. Maybe someone here has more info!

  • I am not sure how it is factored that KU has typically has led towards the end of games and opponents fouled on purpose. Remember how OU fouled Doke repeatedly and on purpose towards the end of game in Norman?

  • @JayHawkFanToo That, plus I would love to know why no one has presented the notion that some coaches (not surprisingly, the ones of consistently highly ranked teams) recruit more agile and quicker players, and are wizards at teaching them to play without fouling as much as lesser players. So, it would be nice to see how the whistle list correlates over time to season rankings or standings.

Concluding KU gets “friendlier” whistles at home in conference play means nothing if not controlling for us likely having better teams than the Nine Stooges we have trampled for 13 conference seasons.

  • @mayjay

Absolutely correct. Without context it is the same as citing the famous…or it is it infamous? 35-2 FTA numbers.

WVU and OSU have loud fans right on top of you (similar to KU) it’s easy for the refs to get caught up in the emotion of the game. ISU and KSU have super loudly whiny fans. Hell ISU fans are complaining about KU getting calls right now. Eventually the refs will think they missed a call and you get phantom makeup calls as well as them buying into the emotion of the game - crowd goes wild when a call goes against the visitor. I don’t pay enough attention to TTU basketball to know what they have going for them other than Evans.

Stopped looking at the thread I started. Those are numbers from all D1 programs? That’s pretty interesting that ISU is #1. Does it explain its’ methodology? I’d imagine it’s a little difficult to quantify because sometimes the hometeam gets calls that are correct so it’s not really a home court thing…

Since I’m not a subscriber, would you be willing to look at UW’s rankings as well as MIchigan States? Thanks!
