Checkmate - Border War Back On

@BeddieKU23 A potiental answer to poor post play. It also would’ve allowed Self to move on from Bragg earlier. Bolden could’ve been a good player given the right set of circumstances. Would he have at KU? I don’t know, but we all know how the season did end - abused by athletic post plays.
I wanted Bolden in a KU uniform but after seeing how his year played out for another HOF coach I can’t help but think we got the better deal of the two (Doke vs Bolden) even despite Doke’s injury which nobody could predict. Bolden has been recruited over twice, first by Wendell Carter and Marvin Bagley. Duke wouldn’t have jumped through academic hoops to accommodate Bagley had they felt confident Bolden was their man. They regulate him to 1st big off the bench now and his role is probably where it belongs. We’ll see how this year plays out but I have an easier time envisioning excitement around players that actually wanted to play at KU then a player who wanted nothing to do with KU

Bolden was very close to transferring after last year.
-
@BShark bet he wishes he did now!
-
…or he could be the next Karviar Shepherd; I seem to recall you being pretty bullish on him.

According to Duke people he decided to transfer to TCU, then he changed his mind. Sounds like a bit of a headcase.
-
@BShark probably didn’t want to sit out a year and didn’t know he was being recruited over, I’m guessing.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Good point. If he knew Bagley would come, maybe he would have stuck with bolting. Almost no chance he plays much this year.
-
I’m glad we didn’t get Bolden and have Dok and Billy. Nuff said.

@JayHawkFanToo You’re just not a nice person with a memory like that … I was also very high on Bragg. Perhaps the best thing to do is IGNORE my favorite recruit.
I do hold to the position that Shepherd would have been much better here vs. TCU (and, you know, I say that knowing you can’t disagree given your proximity to Bill Self’s back side…)
I was excited to see Mr. Lightfoot break out last season, as well. Hmmm.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Well, @HighEliteMajor also liked Tyler Davis of A & M, so it is a wash perhaps. He made the Jabbar list, I believe.

I thought Bragg was a good fit too. Turned out he wasn’t for quite a few reasons. We all miss sometimes.

Sadly my memory is slowly going away and with both parents having suffered from dementia I see that in my future as well.
We all were high on Bragg and Alexander and both were misses, Bragg more so. I am still high on Lightfoot, the book has not closed on him yet; he might well end up having a Lucas like career at KU, not a bad thing.
Sorry you did not get my friendly ribbing. I guess you should know all about Coach Self’s back since that seems to be your favorite target.
I think I liked you better when you were the nicer, kinder HEM. I guess its is back to normal now
-
@JayHawkFanToo I was kidding around too my friend. I understood you were kidding. Just throwing some back to you. I always enjoy giving you a hard time about your unabashed Self loyalty – and noting that the loyalty might help me get off the hook on Shepherd seemed a reasonable time to point it out. But I may point it out at unreasonable times too …
@mayjay Ah, yes, my favorite post guys are not always complete failures. Thanks for the recall.

@HighEliteMajor Can we still call them Meth U?

Keep in mind that if recruiting and players landed panned out/stayed healthy, Lucas doesn’t have a Lucas type career. So, I think some tools are there with Lightfoot too, but this year might be his best chance to see the court.
-
It always comes down to being at the right place at the right time. Lightfoot might be a solid 15-20 minute per game contributor in his last two years; he seems to have a nose for rebounds which might come handy this season as well.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I think Lightfoot could have a great stint at KU, contribute solidly and never average much more than 15 mpg in a season.
-
I see Lightfoot as a different flavor of Kevin Young. He is focusing on this role of being the “energy guy” now. That will take him far with Kansas and can do nothing but help us!

Did you folks notice how Bill Self dodged the Wichita State question in post game dialogue? Evidently, if such a charity exhibition situation should arise in the future, Bill would much rather play Mizzou than an in-state non-con rival. I have been a strong “denier” regarding future KU/MU matchups; but this exhibition contest and its magnificent response tends to bend my outlook. If MU can sustain hoops strength for the near future, I can envision a Big 12/SEC matchup between the schools, a situation which Bill might not dodge. And, of course, the NCAA Tourney managers are bound to calculate dollars generated by such a post season contest between the two programs. Looks to me as though the “series” might be bound to slide in again…by the back door.
-
@REHawk Only in the years we play 'Tucky in the Champions Classic. The KU/'Tucky match up is the marque game of the series.
-
Self proclaims that Devonte is perhaps the most popular Jayhawk athlete on campus. Spends some of his free time sitting in the Union. I see Lightfoot as a kid who embodies much of the Jayhawk Spirit. A player who always craved the opportunity to wear a Kansas uniform, now an upwardly mobile force whose energy and determination push toward meaningful minutes. And, when on the pine, he’s a guy who gushes enthusiasm.
-
@KUSTEVE A very good point.
-
You might want to Photoshop the logo…
-
Ha… yeah… where is “Multnomah?” It’s in Oregon. But we’ve all seen this guy on I-70 when pumping gas to keep moving…
-
@drgnslayr Actually, that might well be an official picture of a deputy before and after being on undercover loan to a department in Missouri.
