Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread

@jayballer54 well hold on, remember back when we were recruiting DeAndre Daniels out of IMG Academy and offered his lesser known teammate Jamari Traylor? We know how that worked out for Jamari.

I believe Christian Garrett was taken as a walk-on to help get Daniels.
Googled and yes: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2015/mar/01/man-faith-basketball-bible-study-highlight-senior-/
It was hoped KU would also land Garrett’s best friend, IMG Academy’s DeAndre Daniels, who ultimately decided to attend UConn and now plays overseas.
Self says the bottom line is he has thoroughly enjoyed working with Garrett, who also was an IMG teammate of KU junior Jamari Traylor.
“Christian has been great for our team, great for our program,” Self said. “He’s been a great ambassador and representative of what we’re trying to do. He is our spiritual leader, without question. Although I haven’t been to one of his services, I’ve listened to him many times within the confines of our team.”

Well not that this comes as any surprise but just read where Bagley is going to announce where is committing to tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. on ESPN. - -Not that surprises us at all as we knew he wasn’t landing here, and since he didn’t make a visit to KU or Kentucky.
I had thought he was a Duke commit, but a good point was brought up, as he will also discuss his re-classification - - -Duke starts school at the end of August I believe while UCLA doesn’t starts a little later, it says they offer something the other schools don’t - - quarters - which would help him get what he needs for re- classification - -so anyways there you go, NO SUPRISE - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Just saw that about Bagley too. Does Duke even have an open scholly? Curious if anyone knows what their situation is.
-
Just went back to check on Bagley for sure, the thing UCLA can offer that the other schools cant’ - - quarters. - - -Bagley is still taking classes to finish degree - - - Duke and USC start at the end of august - - UCLA starts School in the end of September - -so he could work on finishing up classed for yet another month. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@RockkChalkk Not sure if they do or not, BUT looks like maybe UCLA might have an edge with them not Starting Class till the end of Sept, something that might make a difference for Bagley. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Scuttlebutt is Bagley to USC.
-
@BShark maybe a little surprise to me anyways. - -I figured Duke, that’s what seem to be the talk, then this about UCLA but doesn’t really matter - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
I read the three schools are Duke, UCLA and USC. Looks like he likes California so it does not look good for Duke.
-
Bagley to USC makes zero sense from a playing time perspective. 2 NBA forwards on their roster already.
He starts at Duke. Bolden already proved he was a project. What a saga this kid has led on
-
Jalen Carey tentatively coming for Late Night. I don’t think he’ll make it with his other visits lined up really early compared to this one.

If Dotson and Grimes commit by then (fingers crossed) he certainly wouldn’t bother.

Good point. Dotson will definitely be announcing before Carey potentially gets here. We might be out of it after that announcement
-
Ouch! This guy has an agenda.
-
@hawkmoon2020 The comments sum it up -poorly written.
-
@BeddieKU23 Kind of like you watch Duke will now be out of the picture for Garland since they got Trae Jones and Duval. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Zion Griffin will visit during Late Night. Kid exploded this summer. He is already down to 4 and imo it’s us or ISU. HOWEVER he is a wing and obviously KU has a shot at Barrett and KING EMPEROR ZION WILLIAMSON. Soooo, will Griffin wait? Can he commit to KU today if he really wanted to? Tough questions that I don’t know the answer to.
I really like his game though, and he’d be a 4 year player.
-
It was kind of shocking that he cut Illinois. I think he wants Kansas. He has visits set to each school, KU is the last visit…
-
Oh and when I say exploded I mean he went from fringe top 200/unranked to TOP 75. Kid can hoop. ISU fans are rightfully a bit upset that KU might steal him. They even hope we land Barrett or Williamson instead.
Here is some Griffin for your viewing pleasure.
-
@BShark Nice, and a lefty? - -sweet - -of course I’m kind of bias as I’m a lefty. - -looks like decent hops, nice jumper, so you say he is down to 4 schools? - -which are the 4 other then Ku & Iowa State I guess, the other 2 are bud? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BShark I read that it’s KU - -Iowa State - -Illnois State - - -& Pitt, also read where we got the only CB right now so we are at 100%. gonna be interesting. What do we (KU ) do? - -247 lists him now at # 83.
I mean this is probably more of a sure bet but how does that effect Barrett - -Williamson? - -I mean the obvious is that it doesn’t - but we are not sure of the amount of Scholi’s. - - Surely be better with Barrett or Williamson - -but in reality I don’t think Williamson will end here - -Barrett - -I don’t know. - -what ya think? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
And there you have it boys & girls. - -Bagley re classifies & announces DUKE. - -What a surprise. lmao. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Yep not surprising. We could have used him.

Read on other site that we offered Dontarius James to lure Zion Williamson. Is this old news?
No this is not old news we did offered James
-
Mitchell Robinson announces his intentions to attend KU! Or so I expected to read by now. Wtf?!? Bill must’ve cooled his jets by asking for a commitment he wasn’t willing to make without considerable consideration.
-
Soon.

Well Zags Blog had the little article about Zion Griffin listing his four schools and his listed visit dates. - The one thing that I read and slaps me right in the face is - - He says he doesn’t have an exactly date for his commit but has a deadline date of end of September, and this is what sticks out to me he says - - UNLESS he likes a School so much and feels ready to commit on THE SPOT.
Hmmm this strikes me as we have a really golden opportunity right here, he is visiting here what I think the 15th of Sept? - -Late Night right? - -Late night has always been a big recruiting tool in the past, recruits have said repeatedly how the environment was crazy couldn’t get over how loud it was. I would have to feel if he really has interest in KU then it would not surprise me in the least as a matter of fact it would stun/floor me if he didn’t commit that night/ late night when he was here on his visit - taking in everything considered, he will see the crazed fans, how we love our basketball - -our team, how recruits get treated while they are here on that weekend. - ya I could very easily see him committing on the spot. - -what ya think? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
IF KU turns up the heat I think he’s a Jayhawk. However is Self going to take him before Barrett and King Zion Williamson announce?
If you are referencing the article I think you are he called KU a dream come true…
-
Another thing is, I think ideally he is a take along with Williamson or Barrett. However…to get Williamson his friend may have to be a take…
-
And I mean…
“After I take my officials, if one of the schools that I’ve already got my eye on, if they basically show me that I’m a bigger priority than what they’re saying then I’m going to make my decision toward the end of September or start of October, one of those.”
Come on…
-
@BShark This was an article that I read of zag’s blog just about an half hour ago - -just a little piece they had like three different players and talking about their schools, in this on Zionmentioned hi four schools when he was taking the visits and said If he liked the visit enough hand he was ready to commit he could commit on the spot. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BShark See this is one of those situations possibly as to where here we have a pretty decent player, like you have said probably a 3-4 year player that will contribute and probably constantly improve through the years, has good hops, decent shot, a player that exploded this summer and probably will continue to move up some, here he is and say he is ready to commit after his visit to KU.
Like you say do you take him right then? Or do you put him in a hold pattern and wait for one of the other two - that you have no guarantee that is going to commit to KU in the end run? - Thing being if you put him on hold and then it turns out neither Williamson or Barrett commit, your taking a chance on the kid still being there to take. - -kind of like what to do -what to do. - -a pretty dam decent player that saying wants to come right now solid pledge to commit OR take the risk - maybe he comes maybe he doesn’t. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
I don’t think he wants KU so bad that he would hold off on committing from ISU if KU plays it too slow. You never know though. I think he’d be a great get.
-
You take a player like that and develop him (ala Vick) unless it severely hinders recruiting. Zion Williamson and Barret wouldn’t be scared off unless there is no spot for someone’s friend…
-
Scuttlebutt from other boards is Robinson will commit today to KU. Only about 1/4 the commitment we need depending on how the school chooses to deal with his situation…
-
@BShark Ya that’s what I’m afraid of bud. Is he a Williamson ? - -umm no - -Is he a Barett? - -umm no - -But what he is - -is a pretty decent player looks like to me and he is headed up. I’m like yo I’m afraid if he visits and wants to commit and we try and hold off have him wait -Then ya he is gone and then who knows if we land Williamson Or Barret either one and end up zero for three.
I just think these are the kind of kids if they want to commit to us - -then we take them, solid Player sure isn’t gonna hurt ya I don’t think. I think we need to take him if he wants to commit. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BeddieKU23 What do you mean only about 1/4 the commitment? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@BeddieKU23 do you think the sources are reliable? I’m seeing nothing to make me think he is moving towards that decision.
-
@RockkChalkk I haven’t heard he was planning another visit or seeking an agent?

Probably not reliable. It didn’t happen yesterday but could still be in the works over the next few days.

Obviously it will be exciting if he does commit but we literally have no idea how anything will play out.
If the school seeks a waiver and wins, great Robinson gambled and won, gets to play, then he’s gone for the draft next spring. That’s a win-win for both sides. It’s the only scenario that guarantee’s his scholarship is used for the benefit of the team and himself.
If the school seeks a waiver and he loses, the floodgate of possibilities exist. This is where committing is only about 1/4 the commitment we need at that point.
Committing -1/4. Sitting out the year commitment- 1/4, passes on NBA draft- 1/4, makes it through summer/fall without leaving- 1/4.
I’ll give this kid major respect if he has to sit and goes through with it. I think its unexpected someone in his position and talent will do that. I hope I’m wrong
-
Video game society…it used to be players came out of college way more prepared for the NBA. Now everyone (not just ball players) want everything handed to them today. It’s crazy! Too many pity parties for guys not making enough money straight out of college, working to the top takes a little time. Many OADs are the same - want it handed to them before they ride off into the sunset…well they’re going to have to work some more to be successful and that hits some pretty hard.
-
I hope Robinson doesn’t shy away from making a commitment to KU if KU will commit to him.
-
@dylans I think they are waiting on what the NCAA says whether he is eligible or not. This kid’s ego is not going to allow him to sit on the bench for a year waiting to be eligible, imo. He is already being listed in mock drafts as a top 15 pick. i expect if he isn’t eligible, he won’t go to college at all.
-
@dylans Hey hey hey. That type of post doesn’t belong on this topic. You want to hash out how “young people” are worthless entitled little brats today then start a topic on the politics side and I’d be glad to debate that with you. But we have generations of all ages on here and that generalization is a major insult to a lot of us.

Can KU really go to bat for him without him being apart of KU though? I think he has to be apart of the team/university first then if he goes through the process to get a waiver and doesn’t get one he either can leave or stay and train…

From what I understand it’s done to KU. He’s getting backlash from his circle who wants him in the NBA next year no matter what.
Oh and Devon Dotson news… Up to top 20 (and 5 stars) on 247. Doesn’t change how he is as a player, but a deserved bump imo.

Dotson really upped his game this summer. There are a ton of similarities between his game and some former and current hawks!
