Carlton Bragg to Arizona State
-
A lot of distractions on that campus though… Hope he can keep his head on straight. I’ll definitely be rooting for the guy.
-
I’m thinking that under the optimum situation Carlton can resurrect a promising career, end up in the professional ranks. Change of setting, different teammates and coaches. He left Lawrence w/o a messy exit, nor a whimper. I am pulling for him.
-
Good luck, Carlton!

Don’t we play asu there and then home?

Yes. I would think it factored into Bragg’s decision.

The trade for Sam Cunliffe has now been completed.
-
Figured he’d end up there. I’m still friends with him on snapchat and he was there multiple times this past week. It will be interesting to see if Sam can crack the rotation here. I guess he would pretty much have to if Svi stays in the draft and Duval takes his talents elsewhere. Anyone else remember this many transfers on our team at once. We have Newman, Coleby, Cunliffe, Whitman and the Lawson brothers. Is this trouble to have half of our team filled up with transfers? Guess will know a lot more in a year or two.
-
@kjayhawks No trouble at all. This is what liberation from the OAD puppy mill feels like. We want players that are tough, have some context, come here to work hard, to get better, to win. I think every one of these transfers understand what KU basketball is about. I expect we will be tough as hell.
For the 5 star freshman or lower recruited freshman that is tough enough and strong enough to be at Kansas like Josh or Frank, we need you too. But for the most part, give me Bill Self’s version of Transfer U. I’m all in.
-
I think we made out in this unofficial trade deal.
ASU fans were pissed at Cunliffe for having “baggage”
Well ASU fans you just gained yourself a few more bags with Bragg.
If Bill Self can’t get the best out of you, I fail to believe Hurley is some magician.
Maybe a fresh start is all he need but he pretty much blew millions not going pro after his freshman year and may never get that window again.
Good luck to him, except if he has to play us…
-
Another interesting note. ASU signed another transfer Zylan Cheatham from San Diego St the other day, plays the same position as Carlton and is pretty good. Carlton might not even start there…

And Moore.
Transfers in: Coleby, Whitman, D. Lawson, K. Lawson, Newman, Cunliffe, Moore
Transfers out: Bragg, Maxwell
Wow.

@dylans I’m not feeling great about about it. I want tarik black! I’m happy w/Newman, just unsure about the rest. I can see and I hear great things about Newman fitting in w/team.

@dylans Welcome, all, to Rock Chalk Station! Ride the Self Express to Italy, and to points beyond!

@Crimsonorblue22 @mayjay All the transfers has allowed a more talented roster (at the bottom) than normal. Lightfoot is the worst player on the team and he was the AZ player of the year and a top 100 recruit. The transfers have really helped up the quality of the practice squad. It should help on the court as they will be pushed in practice by talented players every day.

Honestly I don’t think this is the plan going forward but when you look at every incoming transfer they all make sense.
Newman - top 10 (even if slightly overrated) guard talent that is an electric scorer. Can’t turn that down.
Cunliffe - very athletic but needs good coaching. I’m on the fence with this one but if this staff turns him into a basketball player, he has a high ceiling.
Charlie Moore - tough and crafty PG. Gets rid of the need to take a bunch of guards in the weak 2018 class. Better than most 2018 guards KU can realistically get and will have a year in the program.
Lawsons - Dedric is an absolute stud and the kind of player that should be targeted by the staff frequently. A very good player with an NBA deficiency like Frank and Perry. Add in the fact that they have 3 other family members that are all top 25 players in the pipeline and it’s easy to see why KU took them and why even Duke was involved.
Jack Whitman - Needed another post player. 1 year rental so worst case he just doesn’t contribute but imo he becomes the #3 post player next year.
So I think while it isn’t the plan going forward, Self is never going to turn down talent. Honestly I believe KU got the two best transfer adds this offseason in the Lawsons and Moore.

Makes sense because they are desperate for bodies but sucks for Carlton.

Also @Crimsonorblue22 Charlie Moore is a great addition. Thrilled to have him, will probably become a fan favourite.

Many think Malik is due to have a monster season…
-
Interesting position label he gave himself.

ASU got themselves a banger!

Watching the Twitter throughout the year between Devonte and Malik, I can see that Graham is riding Newman as hard as he did Josh. He and Malik were looking for bowling partners the other night. Malik won’t face too many tougher guards this year than he faced in practice last year. He knows the system, and as a 5-star player, I hope he has the “Step on the neck” finishing ability that Frank had.
Udoka learned his D1 fundamentals from Lucas. Landen made up for his few inabilities with great fundamentals in setting screen, blocking out, and being in the right spot at the right time. From the new video, Doke could also use some of the Kevin McHale moves of Whitman.
Garret is lucky to have Cunliffe not playing until Christmas. He could pleasantly work his way into the rotation while waiting for the Wunderkind to take the court.
Many have said that Devonte or Malik will be the Big 12 POY’s. Let’s hope it’s undecided until the last week.
-
In my opinion, the only question marks we have are Doke and Preston. Not a bad problem to have. They will take time to develop, which is why a Coleby and a Whitman are so important. We’re going to punish teams down low with that size- Bill will take full advantage. I think our perimeter is the best in the nation for the 2nd year in a row. Everyone is wondering about Newman’s impact, but the “Vick Impact” could be just as big. 6 years combined college experience at the perimeter. Tons of experience. I think all 3 are double digit scorers. I think we have the talent 1-5 to win the national championship. If these talented players can mesh together, this might be the team that can win the national championship. I think the trip to Italy is huge for this team. Extra exhibition games, extra practices, more time to bond and gel as a team… it couldn’t have come at a better time.

You knocked this one outta da park!!!
