Mason

  • No assist #'s before '75? I wonder how many JoJo averaged? Block #s for Wilt would be cool too. Is there tape of all the games? Could someone in fact go back and get the stats?

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Going to be an impressive career for Frank when its all said and done. Top 10 in points and assists is something I never imagined he would have at the end of his career. Even more improbable is the POY talk.

He’s going to win the Cousy award for best PG, he’s already cemented 1st team All-American, Big-12 POY, 1st team Big-12, 1st team Big-12 defensive team. If he added POY, Final 4 MVP and a National Championship he will have a strong case for one of the best hawks to ever put on a jersey. Crazy!

  • @BeddieKU23

Absolutely. He is the poster boy for staying 4 years and improving every year by leaps and bounds. Interesting that just now we are starting to notice how good of a career he has really had. Up until this season, we knew he was very good but not this good. No doubt one of Coach Self"s better recruits if not the best.

  • This is what he does every game!

  • @KansasComet

“He can take over games when needed and he can get other’s involved.”

Yes he CAN. So WHEN will he?

His stats are okay. Would you settle for “okay” stats from Lebron James?

Devonte isn’t Lebron. No question. But Lebron is an “alpha dog.” Even when he has a bad game his presence is known.

Like I said… if this was someone else… if this was Vick or Svi… I would be thrilled with his stats and activity.

I just happen to believe he is a much better player than we are experiencing. I’m posting on this because I ACTUALLY BELIEVE he is much better.

Heck… when was the last time a sportscaster even mentioned Devonte? Back in November? When everyone was touting what a great guard combo we have? Now the talk is all Frank. Frank is an alpha dog, not Devonte. Same with Josh… alpha dog and being mentioned.

I’ve said this for months now… DEVONTE is the key to this team’s success in March. You raise his play to that of Frank and Josh and no one has a chance of beating us in March. No one. He doesn’t need to score like Frank or Josh. But he needs to put the scoring pressure on, if for no other reason to help free up Frank and Josh. And through driving and being alpha, the floor will open up for all our guys.

Devonte SHOULD be our best driving guard. He has the handles, more size than Frank, and he can drive on either side.

How about Devonte driving and kicking to a wide open trey for Frank or Svi? Both should be getting more and better looks from trey.

  • @drgnslayr I think his issue is deferring to other guys and not wanting to be selfish. I hope he decides to show what he is capable of real soon. March is the most important time of the year to play great basketball.

  • It was Bill Self directly who coaxed Frank into decommitting from Towson, and committing to KU. Clearly an eye for talent…

  • When Townsend was talking about recruiting Frank, they called Frank and asked if he wanted to come visit KU and Frank said, “Is that the court with the big bird in the middle?”

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Am I the only person who just now finally got the symbolism of Marcus Smart flippin’ (on) the bird at KU?

  • @drgnslayr Devonte Graham is an excellent player and he is doing enough to support his team. This is Frank Mason’s Senior Year, and Devonte is doing a great job supporting Frank as well as Josh. They are both gone after this year. If Devonte comes back, I am sure he knows that it will be his team. Devonte, being the Alpha that he is, stepped up to the line and cashed in 4 straight free throws without a miss against KSU. That’s what Alpha’s do. He also plays great defense. It may not show up in the box score, but I really appreciate his efforts.

  • Frank sits 13th on the all-time scoring chart.

    1,658 points and counting.

20 points over his last 5 will get him into 10th place going into the Big-12 tournament.

  • Frank was able to pass both Perry Ellis and Keith Langford against UC Davis. He currently sits 7th on the all time scoring list with 1818 points just 3 behind Darnell Valentine and 60 behind Sherron Collins for 5th place.

  • Mason needs 23 points against Oregon to pass Collins for 5th all-time on the Scoring List.

  • There better not be any question about the poy! My gosh he’s incredible to our team! Maybe for the first time EVERYONE saw that last night! I repeat, to our TEAM!❤💙

  • Another award The National Association of Basketball Coaches has named Frank Mason a 1st Team All-American and Josh Jackson a 3rd Team All-American!

  • @BeddieKU23 said:

On the verge of becoming the 1st Big-12 player to avg 20 + 5 assists a game.

Isn’t that already etched in stone? I thought since they were identifying it as a Big 12 record, and the Big 12 season is over, that it is in the record books.

  • @nuleafjhawk He started this thread 2 months ago.

  • Here is a ESPN story about Mason being the leader. Swanigan is second followed by Heart, Ball and Motley. No question that barring a complete collapse by Mason and Ball suddenly averaging 40 ppg, neither of which is likely, Mason should get the nod.

  • I think I read today Mason is one of only six players to score at least 25/7/7 in an NCAA tourney game. He is one bad man. #BIFM

  • @nuleafjhawk But it was Big 12 players in a season, not just the conference season.

  • @mayjay meh…

  • @JayHawkFanToo If you (Ball) didn’t even get POY in your own conference (PAC whatever) I wouldn’t think you’d have much chance to be named as Naismith winner. Where as, BIFM is Big 12 POY, plus numerous other POY awards, not to mention his stats so far in the tourney, he should be a lock.

  • @BeddieKU23 I think Fearless Frank has this one locked up. Noone else can touch him for NPOY

  • Frank earns Unanimous First Team All-American honor and is only Unanimous pick this year.

First KU player since TRob in 2012 to be first team.

Players were voted on by the same AP writers who vote for the weekly top 25.

    Hart of Nova

    Ball of UCLA

    Swanigan of Purdue

    Jackson if UNC

    Josh Jackson was third team.

  • @FarNrthJHwk Might want to edit that post 😃

  • @wissox yikes. Thanks for that. Fat thumbs and new phone.

    Sorry

  • Frank Mason was Named AP Player of the year

  • @BeddieKU23 yesssssss

  • @FarNrthJHwk You’re new here, I’m the grammar cop! I mete out fines, sentences, etc. The worst was I forced someone once to watch a whole season of Missouri basketball.

By the way, I’m just a little nosy, and I was a geography major at KU, so how far north are you?

  • @wissox Great so you were the reason they sold that 1 season ticket last season.

Just south of the Canadian border about 4-5 miles as the crow flies. Whitlash MT. Only way to get here is on dirt roads. Lothair is the closet town to me.

Retired up here. It’s not for everybody but I completely enjoy it. Spent 17 years in Wyoming before that.

Enjoy the fishing, hunting and just watching the wildlife.

  • @FarNrthJHwk So is it easy to accidentally end up in Canada or are even the dirt roads clearly marked/blocked? That solitude would be fantastic, but I’m not a fan of bitter cold weather. Best of luck to you!

  • @dylans Well yeah you can get lost on the wrong road. Usually there’s somebody there to let you know though. There’s a few trails that go back and forth across the boarder. But there is a border crossing there with border patrol.

I will have been here two years in June. Wasn’t planned, just kinda fell on my lap. Lost my wife 23 years ago and lost contact with her parents shortly after. Well when her dad passed, he left everything to me as she was an only child and he had lost his wife a few years after his daughter. There were 200 acres in Montana included. So when I found out and I visited I decided to retire and move. Sold half to an old coaching friend and he lives across the road basically.

This summer the cabin should be finished. Built a aluminum barn first and built living quarters in it for the time being.

Thanks to having a satalite I can get tv and internet. There is no cell service for about 40 miles south. There are days turning into weeks you just stay inside. Too much snow or too cold.

But I have a snow machine, 4 wheeler, and my truck. Most of the people that live near by are good with checking on us older types. Lol. There’s also a group of guys that will come around everynow and say hi, but you never go say hi to them. They don’t like trespassers much. You can probably put two and two together there. Lol

Not sure how many more winters I’ll spend up here, but a few more at least. Then might travel south or travel elsewhere for a few months and enjoy this Graceland from May to October.

    No plans yet.

  • @FarNrthJHwk

Very interesting. Absolutely beautiful country in the warmer months but I am not sure I would like to live there year around, particularly in the colder months.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Got enough firewood to last. Collected a lot with this cabin but there are plenty of trees around.

There’s a sign in the Postoffice that reads, “Welcome to God’s country. Because if your car breaks down only God can fix it.”

    It’s pretty true

When I split the land and built the road decided that the two cabins would be within a half mile. That way if all else fails we could snowshoe and play cards and see somebody.

I enjoy being up here. Last winter which was my first had a few questionable weeks but this year it was all good.

  • @FarNrthJHwk

I admire and respect what you are doing. A while back I looked at some nice opportunities in North Dakota and decided it was for a younger person since I am now too used to the comfort of the suburbs…plus it would be difficult for me to move away from the children and grandchildren.

  • @JayHawkFanToo You are a lucky man to have family. Wouldn’t trade family for anything in the world. I miss my wife every day. Never had kids of my own, just the kids who played for me. It’s missing them come back to town and seeing how they’ve grown up. But the internet helps a little with that.

But Minot uh. And I thought I was in he middle of nowhere. Lol.

  • @FarNrthJHwk

Minot was one of the larger cities, the others were Willistone and Watford with huge development due to the Bakken field oil boom that now appears to be going bust. Big rewards but more suited for younger individuals.
