A break from our own troubles

Grayson, I’m just speechless this crap keeps happening. And I know, I’m being a hypocrite because last week I was accusing us of being haunted by Duke.
But here you go:
Video seems pretty conclusive. Notice the sign, Gipper v. The tripper. Referees favored Duke in the little bit I saw. Brey got a T on one call that was Horrible with a capital H.
-
Obviously his “indefinite suspension” didn’t hit home. Time for ACC and NCAA to step in before he seriously hurts somebody. Or somebody seriously hurts him.
-
Over on the ESPN/Puke Network not a mention of Tripper’s latest exploits. Expected. But there is some good news. Mush-mouth is calling his last game tonite in the Georgia/Kensucky tilt. I take it back. They do have a clip titled “Gibbs Falls While Guarding Allen.”
-
@wissoxSimply no surprise with anything dook - IT’S MAGIC !!
-
@brooksmd Brett’s last game. One of my least favorite announcers. He was arrogant, always talking about himself, name dropping. Unfortunately it’s his voice calling the 1988 championship with Billy Packer whom I didn’t mind until he screwed up the 2008 championship!
-
@wissox Man, for real, if any of OUR players did this!? Coach Self would have benched them immediately, no questions asked.
-
Did you see the broadcast he did with Vitale of the OU-Florida game? Vitale had his arm on Masburger’s shoulder just about the entire game and they were constantly holding each others arms; I think at the end of the game Vitale kissed Masburger…weird does not even begin to describe the broadcast.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Missed that game. Between KU and Wisconsin games that are must watch, there’s not much time to watch other games.
-
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I love this like so hard!
-
@brooksmd Suspending a guy for one cupcake game and then immediately bringing him back isn’t a punishment. Of course he didn’t learn…
We suspend Bragg for the UK game and Baylor game. And sit him out during his legal trouble from before that he was found not guilty. That sends a message.
K is a hell of a coach. But he didn’t handle this right, and it is clear to everyone else outside of that program.
I can’t wait for K to be gone and Duke to fall back into mediocrity. I think Nike got tired of fighting him and embraced him. But once he is gone, I think you will see a lot more top recruits wearing Carolina Blue…
-
The key to me is that it looks like Allen looks at the official on that side before he makes his cut. Right as they go to the enlarged box, it looks like Allen peeks at the nearside official. That official is watching (as he should) the action between the Duke player cutting to the ball (Kennard I think) and his defender. The baseline official should be watching Allen’s cut, but it looks like his view is obstructed by Jefferson and his defender, and his eyes shift when Kennard drives.
Allen has a habit of trying to pull this type of stuff when he thinks/knows the officials aren’t watching him. That’s why a suspension should have been more harsh.
-
@Kcmatt7 But Bragg got arrested, Grayson didn’t. Maybe those should warrant different suspensions, although I agree, Grayson probably should have been sat longer.
-
@wissox also true.
-
The time Bragg was arrested was for the wrong reasons and charges were dropped, This last time, I don’t believe he was arrested, he was simply charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Day Tripper’s misdeeds were on the court and during Nationally televised games for the whole world to see…basically a gigantic middle finger to the entire sport and fans.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I can’t believe I’m kind of defending Grayson, but in my humble opinion I’m thinking Bragg has done worse than tripper boy.
-
@wissox Just not as bad as Bo Ryan having an affair - what an awful stain on the program that was.
-
Before the investigation is complete there is no need for us to speculate. All that does is exasperate the situation. Step back, swallow your fear and see how it plays out. Leave speculation to the haters. The reporters at the Enquirer…I mean KC Star have stirred up quite a bit of crap lately. Doesn’t mean it’s factual. It does mean we have to deal with the storm though. So wait and see before casting judgement, you’re much less likely to look like an a$$. I leave that to my KSU “friends”.
-
So, you think an immature college student smoking pot…in private is worse than making a mockery of college basketball…on National TV?
-
@JayHawkFanToo Actually, what Allen did when he deliberately tripped people should be considered assault, as it would if he went up to a stranger and did the same thing. Someone could have been injured. So, perhaps like you, I myself am in the Allen-did-something-worse camp.
What Bragg did in possessing pot less than two weeks after coming to the attention of the cops and luckily being cleared and being reinstated to the team, was probably equally as, or even more, stupid as Allen, however.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Well Grayson never was charged with a misdemeanor, or whatever it was he was charged with. Sure he has disgraced himself, but it’s kind of an apples and oranges type of thing, maybe I never should have made the comparison.
@mayjay If you start to threaten athletes with assault charges for something they’ve done in the course of play you open up a whole new realm of penalties in sport. Not sure I’d want to go there.
-
I believe it has already happened in ice hockey…
-
@JayHawkFanToo You’re right, I forget when.
-
-
@approxinfinity Hadn’t realized an old thread of mine had been revived. Looking through the comments, got a little ‘homesick’ for Lulufulu, brooksmd, JayHawkFantoo, KUSteve, etal.
