UNC/Kentucky game
-
Wow big boy pants for this one.
Monk with 15 early. Shooting the ball unconscious
UNC can’t handle Kentucky honestly
-
wow the ref’s really love Kentucky today.
Roy just got a T for throwing his jacket and honestly he had every right
-
Monk is playing like a NBA superstar
Kentucky will win this game easily
-
@BeddieKU23 yep. I can see UK winning by 20. This is exactly why you have to keep them in the half court like UCLA did.
-
It’s more then keeping them in a half court.
Monk and Fox are killing their small guards
UNC doesn’t have the athletic size to keep up
-
@BeddieKU23 man. Fox is fast!
-
fastest I’ve seen at the college level especially for his size and athleticism
-
@BeddieKU23 I think Wall was faster.
-
@BeddieKU23 I disagree. Carolina getting closer by forcing them into tough shots in the half court. That’s exactly what UCLA did
-
A LOT of athleticism and talent - esp. on UK - but, seriously, this is like one of the high school all star games - very little defense. We could handle UNC - their offensive rebounding would be the major concern - but UK is going to present a challenge - esp. at Rupp…
-
what a game so far. definitely on the way to 100 + for both teams
-
Can they possibly maintain this pace second half?
-
yes they can
-
All I can say If Kentucky is rolling like this when we play - - -Landen and or Udoka will have absolute no effect in the game. - -They will be run to death, hate to say but when these guys are playing like this pretty scary. - - Monk is in-real and Fox is sooooo dam quick - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@jayballer54 The question is can we out score them. UCLA did - put up a 100 on them. UNC may do the same, even if they lose. We may not have the interior defenders, but we have MUCH better perimeter defenders than either of these teams…
-
@DCHawker I agree - UNC would be a tough match but we could beat them.
-
If kentucky plays like they have for 40 minutes and Monk shoots out his mind that is their ceiling, they can beat anyone.
If Monk doesn’t make 7 contested jumpers UNC would be winning
-
-
absolutely nothing you can do, he’s playing out of his mind.
-
Baylor 33 the mighty Tigers of JACKSON STATE 30. Nearing half.
-
the kentucky fanbase is so bad all you hear is booing after every play that doesn’t go their way. so pathetic
-
Highly entertaining game.
-
indiana is getting whipped …
-
no chance for UNC with the way Monk is playing
-
This game is having a great finish
-
I told you guys before, Kentucky has way too much talent not to be really good, the only question is what level of good will it be in a given day and how consistent it will be from one game to another.
-
@JayHawkFanToo you didn’t tell me. oh wait…maybe you did…i’m older than dirt…lol.
-
best game of the year, imo. two ole defenses trading buckets. we’re going to hold the monk to under 20. they’ll feel like a vice grip has grabbed them when we lock down on them. that’s what we’re going to remember most about this crew- they can really be a great defensive team … i mean a national champion type defense.
-
well said. This was their A game and 2 players scored 71 of their 103 points so really it was one crazy good individual performance backed up by another very good effort from Fox. I can’t imagine Bill Self will let Monk be wide open on all those shots he got off. He made plenty of contested shots but for the life of me I couldn’t understand what UNC was doing leaving him so wide open.
-
I have said this before about North Carolina and the same is true now of Kentucky - how much better are they going to get? To me, yesterday was about the peak ability of both teams. For our guys, their best play is still a ways off. Just like in '12 and last year, we will start playing our best in February and March.
Right now, we aren’t getting any media attention. It’s all about Duke, UNC and Kentucky, and that’s fine with me. Our guys will steadily improve and become a cohesive unit out of the spotlight.
-
I only watched bits of this game.
But I think a game like this shows us that the only way we are going to win-out in March is by having excellent defense. We aren’t going to win a game against a team like Kentucky or UCLA by just trying to outscore them. Not going to happen.
We have a big advantage against most of the top teams this year… experience. And we should expect our experience to show itself in March this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean we will be more composed in high pressure games. But it should show up in areas like weak side help. Our guys should have better defensive flow on switches. We should be able to dial in our hedges better, too.
Last night was a great sign for much of this (in the second half). We now have experienced this team operating at a higher level than in all previous games. I wasn’t expecting this until after Christmas. If we can now jump up to another level after Christmas… like… how about we increase the minutes where we play at this level!
-
I only watched a bit of this game. I honestly think UNC is the better team and will end up going deeper. I know they lost but Monk was flatout insane and still dam near it win. He wont have another game like that in a long time if ever.
-
UNC played well, I don’t think they played their best but they showed a lot of grit getting the game to a 1 possession game late. The concerning takeaway I would take if I was a UNC fan was the 71 points from 2 guards, 81 counting Briscoe. It was a great game otherwise filled with lots of big shot making ability from certain players. Monk, Fox & Jackson played like Pro’s. Berry was also good for large stretches of the game
-
Did you guys see the foul trouble for the physical guys?
This is how the college game is now being officiated and soft skilled offensive players will have a field day. Both teams over 100? I hope coach Self is taking note because toughing your way to victories is going to be really hard with today’s officiating.
