Devonte Graham Injured
-
@Crimsonorblue22 That’s exactly who I was thinking too.
-
No Greene, Graham, Svi, or Diallo. A shame that it won’t really be KU representing the USA in South Korea.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Wow, talk about PPoor timing. This just sucks. Along with being extremely painful & immobilizing, torn muscles can take weeks of inactivity to completely heal. Maybe we could dial up a Buddy Hield from Lon Kruger at OU for a couple of weeks. Now that kid would bring some real firepower.
-
@globaljaybird not usa
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Damn, you would want a pedigree.
-
It’s time to call Nadiir Tharpe.
-
@DanR What should they call him ?
-
I wonder if it is really a partially torn quad or just a sprain or strain? Partially torn quads typically take longer than 3 weeks to heal.
I hope it isn’t really torn.
-
THIS NEWS LITERALLY RUINED MY DAY!

They said 3 weeks of immobility, not 3 weeks of healing.
-
Guess I didn’t catch that. I wonder if they have him in a full brace? Muscular atrophy begins quickly. I could see this taking several months to come back from.
-
@drgnslayr The medred and blue Jayhawks
-
@drgnslayr he will have time.
-
@REHawk good idea until you said put the clamps on…
-
Some have mentioned X and Selby. I think Self said that X would be playing nba summer league to get picked back up. Would he pick up Selby? I think he’s doing pretty good.
-
This really sucks. Most young guys recover and it is no problem once recovered. But I really think this is a 3-4 month deal.
FYI, partially torn is the same thing as a sprain, which is the same thing as a strain. Sprain is usually used when it is tendons/ligaments; strain when it is a muscle. When someone sprains their ankle, it’s a partial tearing of structures, as opposed to a full tear (or a rupture).
So, the partially torn tendon is a sprain. Same thing.
Oubre goes to the NBA; Greene has surgery; we don’t land the OAD; Graham goes down.
Who said Svi was the most important player for the upcoming season?
-
@Statmachine DITTO!
-
Ron Baker would be great addition. As far as Xavier and Selby, we have to keep in minds that these are the World “UNIVERSITY” Games, and the players have to have at least a semblance of being currently attached to a university; Xavier and Selby have been gone for a while and, TTBOMK, neither is taking classes or actively pursuing a degree. I believe McLemore might qualify since he is actively pursuing a degree and has been gone for only a couple of years; however, I seriously doubt the Kings (who pay his salary) would let him risk injury in non-King related activities.
-
@JayHawkFanToo yeah, no way Ben Mac could. But, he would be perfect! I think Self goes thru the KU family.
-
To me, Ron Baker would be the perfect candidate since it would play basically Davonte’s position, shoots great, handles the ball well, has a high BBall IQ, he is native Kansan…and he might decide to transfer to KU for his 5th year (he red-shirted) and be eligible immediately.
Ron Baker or Bust???
-
@JayHawkFanToo someone said he would be trying out for the pan am games during that time. Van fleet too
-
Yes, the tryouts for the Pan American games team are July 7-9 to Colorado Springs, Colo. and the game will be July 21-25 in Toronto, so it would definitely conflict withe WUG. I could not find the complete list of players invited to try out, but Baker and VanVleet were indeed invited; the coach is Mark Few and Tad Boyle is one of the assistants.
-
@Crimsonorblue22: Ron baker
Kill me if that’s the case. Don’t lay with the enemy!
Agree @HEM, this isn’t going to be a quick recovery. You’re better off breaking a bone than straining or spraining something.
-
@Kip_McSmithers no need to kill u! he won’t ask him.
-
The question has to be asked here given the number of injuries we have suffered - is this a case of overtraining? I know these guys are working under watchful eyes, but it sure seems like we have a lot of significant injuries.
-
@justanotherfan Thanks for bringing it up 'cause I’ve been asking the same. Yes, the season is hard on these players, but we seem to be more injury-prone. At least it seems so. A personal trainer once told me some body types increase muscle while others don’t no matter how much training or weightlifting. Could you see lean muscle Manning, Elijah or Tyshawn (Greene & Graham belong to this group?) becoming Valentine or Collins or Mason? It’s no wonder Greene’s hip took a hit while lifting weights - true he didn’t follow the proper instruction, but who does at that age. All that pressure couldn’t be mustered by his lean muscle mass so hit the bone? I don’t know anything about training and perhaps it is all coincidence, but this sure has been on my mind wondering why so many injuries to such young bodies? Maybe their bodies aren’t yet matured to handle such pressure & pounding? Someone please enlighten me with physiology, medical scientific data!
-
@HawksWin I think BG said he was stretching? He also said he was not very flexible, which goes hand in hand w/a weight and conditioning program.
-
Injuries last year had more to do with Devonte being stepped on and Ellis being rolled up on. They had nothing to do with Hudy over training them.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Oh I thought I read somewhere he felt something on his hip while lifting weights. I trust you more than my fading memory.
-
@HawksWin I’m not sure either, he was at wt lifting.
-
@wrwlumpy Agree, but how is it that we ended up with a few injuries by the end of each season? Did Mari ever injured his hip? Can’t recall.
-
More injuries towards the end of the season are the norm as players are wearing down and games are getting tougher. This is true for all sports.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Ohhhh why aren’t their bodies made of machine?! You know, like the $6M Dollar Man. That said, would you know stats on the number of injuries per season by school? That’d be very interesting to see. If the data supports your assertion, I’m in your camp.
-
@HawksWin yes and just redid it
-
@HawksWin so many players play thru them, you don’t always know. I knew ll was hurting, but didn’t know he was that bad.
-
@HighEliteMajor Have endured many severely & partially torn muscles & none I can recall healed in less than 4 months. But only a couple was I "immobilized’ & the injury allowed to heal. One was at least 6 mo to be pain free & about 85-90 % & another almost a year after surgery just to reach abt 75 %. Wouldn’t be surprised to see this young guy back a lot faster, but wouldn’t be shocked if it’s next year either. It’s just a crapshoot. His age & the prime quality of his medical care are certainly the greatest factors in expediency,
-
@globaljaybird You’re right, it is a crapshoot. I saw where Self says it would be 6 weeks before he could start any sort of rehab. That tells me it will at least three months after that before he’s possibly ready to roll. This is clearly bad news – but from a timing perspective, better now than any day later than now.
-
@RockkChalkk Crap, crap, crap, crap and more crap! I just read this! Damm, another injury? This sucks. I hope he recovers quickly.
