If we can’t win on the road again that will say a lot
Bill’s defensive philosophy tonight sucked
Stop pop and let all others beat you
Playing 2 bigs when Hunter can’t move ain’t good
I’m sure things will come out he’s still “hurt”
-
Storming the court means we’re good. I like it.
-
@DanR Increased to +9. 2nd best was Flory at -2
-
Issacs probably won’t come close to 30 points in a game the entire the rest of the Season
-
@Crimsonorblue22 He’s a net negative because of his defense
Seeing now why his teams never amounted to anything
Go get athletes
-
Hard to be mad at Mcdermott. Seems alright.
-
Hmmm. Not great but I’m not too concerned yet. If this happens again I will hit the panic button but for now I will attribute it to a simple case of us missing bunnies and them raining threes.

Meh. We were red hot the previous two games and due for a bad shooting game. Team also has a flu bug running through it. I’m not overly concerned but yes we should of had someone other than AJ on Pop.
-
It’s one thing to lose to a good team on the road, but they basically dominated. 10pts combined from Hunt and KJ. Like that Juan has been looking to score more, but 21 shot attempts!?
-
I’ve said this & said this in this type pace of a game Dickinson is worthless he is just way to dam slow
-
I honestly feel like as I said earlier in the year we need to stop playing 2 bigs a team that can hit the long ball will smoke us. Just one game early in the season. The switching defense just doesn’t work with a big like Hunter. Juan should never shoot the ball 21 times in one game
-
Bush league fans. 35% from the floor. Wasn’t our team on the floor tonight.
-
We also shot horribly on lay-ups tonight. Those kind of things will happen from time to time. If we follow this up with a stinker at Missouri that will be concerning.
-
Yeah “they defended without fouling”. Sure.
-
We have to play a bit better, but… good god, the officiating.
This one was largely orchestrated.
-
@bskeet criminal.
-
Wonder who these guys were rooting for?

@BShark Pop scored on juan all night off switches and Mayo
Flu does suck
Bill needs to play 4 guards but he’s stuck thinking we are in the early 2000’s and that isn’t allowed
He’d also claim we can’t rebound with 4 guards which tells me he isn’t accurately viewing the 5 he’s playing most
-
Had to block the bozos again. Tried to give a fresh chance, but it’s boring and I have zero energy for it.
-
@BShark We don’t attack we think to “learn” the system
Self’s said this multiple times
Tries to break guys down versus just Pearl’ing it
-
Not a word last game, but blowing tonight
-
four shots and two of those four were three point attempts from your starting seven footer that was suppose to be in charge for player of the yr in the Big twelve.
In these types of games with this type of pace he might as well just draw water for the guys on the floor -he was absent doing basically zelch, he is SLOW like a sloth

Very dull indeed. Only waits for the bad performances. This was our “D” game, get a few of those every year. They will be better.
-
Game looked worse than it was, not that some will care. Make or miss game obviously.
-
From the other board… what say you all
I’m starting to think this is Selfs fault. He kets Harris do anything even at the detriment if the team And them doesn’t let other more talented players figure it out
-
@BShark I’m more disappointed and concerned with the defense than offense. To quote Billy Hoyle “ Sometimes the ball just doesn’t go in the hole” . I think we could survive poor shooting with good defense or a friendly whistle. Not many teams survive all 3
-
Well Bucketeers, these games — few and far between as they are — suck. But they suck less because I am part of this community.
Appreciate all of your perspectives and insights.
-
@kjayhawks AJ Storr is very uninterested on D and Diggy is tiny. Rylan is at least engaged.
-
@BShark Griffen is definitely the better of the 3, Storr needs to be sat down for a while.
-
@kjayhawks Our D has been like this with Hunter and zero adjustments by Bill
-
@approxinfinity Orange jumpsuits.
-
@patoh3 White collar crime.

I’m honestly not a 100% sure what Bills game plan tonight was, obviously it wasn’t executed well. He still is trying mold these guys and shape this team. I definitely don’t like that Coit, Juan and Storr shot 61% of our FG attempts in the game. Hunter wasn’t given hardly any post touches tonight nor Flory or even KJ for that matter. Our highest percentage shooters only got 11 shots up. Thats just not going work against a good team. I don’t think Juan took any terrible shots but that’s what teams will do to him. Bait him into taking a ton of shots and his career FG% isn’t great for a guy that shoots mostly runners/layups in the lane.
-
Other positive is we won’t be #1, which you all know I think being ranked #1 especially in March is cursed lol
-
Not going to bag on individual players here. This is on Self. He recruited players to fix the issues of last year, but he is still using the same formula.
This needs to be reposted so much. Coming into today Storr was averaging 21 mpg and Griffen 20. We brought in top transfers to play half the game. Griffen started on a better Alabama team than us last year and went to the final four and he plays less here.
From tos and true
Bill ain’t maximizing the roster go figure
-
@kjayhawks That’s what I flat out don’t get
He’s playing the same D with Hunter for two years
He’s had frick 4 years with KJ and Juan offensively and still hasn’t schemed crap up to utilize them
You sag off those two and no offense can run
Bama, auburn, isu, Marquette would all run us off the floor and completely stifle our offense while just killing us on defense with pick and roll
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah bs I had a whole analysis after the Duke game because I wasn’t in a spot to post during the game
Comical here no one comments on that but u all remember the negative real quick and block like weak sauce
It’s really true negativity sells and is remembered - pathetic
-
@BShark just like Bill tonight ur SAAAWWFFFTTT
-
@kuballin10 haters gonna hate. I appreciate the conversation starter.
-
@kuballin10 but i also agree that we played a shitty game: shots didnt fall, rylen was sick and several things went against us. We arent going to win all our games.
-

I’ll tell you who is completely uninterested on D — Hunter. It’s not even an afterthought. It’s like he just doesn’t give a crap. I was screaming at him multiple times tonight. Loafer. Lazy. I desperately wanted him out of the game. I dunno how Self didn’t pull him a few times. Maybe would have given our offense a different look.
For the rest of it…crap. Nobody gets a passing grade tonight. I take that back. Clemence gets an A+. He was great.
We were outrebounded by a very large margin.
We were out-free throwed by a huge margin.
Self gets a triple F-minus tonight. Zero adjustment to get Hunter a shot, any shot. Very poor game planning and adjusting. That may be the most shocking thing tonight.
An all around clunker.

I did think our guards were afraid of contact all night. A LOT of floaters shot.
-
They sagged off on the pick and roll and dared our guards to shoot tough floaters/contested layups over length.
They basically took Hunt out of the game with this too.
Bill will get that fixed. This is also where Rylan and Storr will learn these are their games to shine. They are basically giving you a free driving lane right at the big man, and if they just go up strong it’s and easy bucket/foul.
This was a game you pencil in as a loss to start the season. Not concerned at all yet
-
Folks, I did everything I could to help.
I went to bed at halftime, just like I did during the UNC National Championship game.
Didn’t work this time.
-
Wolp. Back to work for the boys.
-
Would rather lose this game than the Fizzou game

The issue with our guys is “just going up strong” to get a bucket or at least draw a foul. For reasons that escape me, our guys seem to be unwilling or incapable of doing that - a recurrent theme and not just this year. Juan had a dozen drives toward the rim - ZERO FT attempts. He always leans away from contact. Given the length of Kalkenbrenner, not suprising that he was the 3-12 on 2pt attempts. More frustrating is that KJ does the same. Go back and watch his drives - he does not drive into the body of the defender to draw contact. Also leans away from contact and throws up the ball. 2-6 on 2pt attempts and also ZERO FT attempts.
Eight FT attempts on 70 shot attempts - hard to comprehend. And, that is not simply bad officiating or getting jobbed on the road… We had half the FTAs as Furman at home, about half as many as UNC at home, significantly fewer than UNCW at home…
-
Jaun it is kind of understandable, he doesn’t have the size/strength to bump a defender and still stay on balance to reliably finish his shot. Agreed it might help him a bit but I don’t know that we want to rely on those plays for offense.
KJ/Storr though, 100% need to be driving and getting to the line more though.
First road test of the season, looked a bit rough. Just have to see if the team can learn from it since we’ll have a lot tougher road games in conference play.
-
@kjayhawks Agreed, and honestly am ready to forget the loss if it means the team is more motivated this weekend and hangs an extra 30 pts on them
