We got our WR1 it would seem
-
@BShark I’ll take Bama retreads all day
Sec is still deepest conference and king even if a big 10 team takes it all. Dogs defense gonna shut Ohio st and Oregon down though……

I hope so! Nice to get Alabama transfers for sure. No doubt he was waiting behind a talented WR crew there, and couldn’t get on the field too much. But WR1? I haven’t looked at our WR crew. Who else we got?
i hope a WR1 would have more than 4 catches last year.

Yeah they had him change positions too. He was an absolute beast in high school. Very athletic I think they can get something out of him. Easy to get buried at Bama.
-
Staff has absolutely cooked this offseason imo. Added some low floor guys and now a high ceiling addition.
-
Cannot be overstated how important keeping JD6 here to pitch recruits was.
Receiving corp is looking good. Pickett, Emillien, Wentz, Henderson, Burnett (TE)
I think they go looking for one more WR maybe, but tbd. Note that Hanika (TE) should also be back and he was going to get a lot of PT last season.
Needs are mostly met ant this point. Expect us to take some home run shots like going after Bryce Foster-type guys these next portal windows.
Really like how the team is shaping up… maybe I’m drinking the koolaid but we should be a good team next year.
-
@Kcmatt7 Have an antidote for the koolaid handy. We were supposed to win the Big 12 this year. Sorry.

Yea I mean clearly a disappointing season but I still like our roster a lot. JD6 should come into the season much sharper than he did last season.
The best thing KU has going for it is solid line play on both sides of the ball. OL should be one of the best in CFB again.
DL should have Dunn, Caldwell, Keys, Miller, Jobe, Brooks, Brinkley, and Withers. I think they’ll add another edge in the portal.
I suspect we will be improved at LB, but worse at CB. Safety a bit of a wash.
Overall I think the roster ends up close to as talented as last season’s. Continuity in the system is massive. Not having a mass exodus of transfers out is noticeable to me. Just feels like we are building something in Lawrence…
-
I think the OL has about 7 good bodies, but how they play them will be interesting
- Foster
- Mercer (transfer)
- Tanner (transfer)
- Baynes
- Clements
- Doiron
- Gorczyca
They added another transfer from NW Missouri that could become a guy, but I personally didn’t love his film. Plenty of other bodies on the roster who could also develop, but top two would be:
- Amir Herring (Michigan transfer)
- Darrell Simmons (got some PT this season)
I think they could add one more here but it would have to be a for sure starter type.
-
@Kcmatt7 Swain is saying that preferably they will go after one more WR
-
@Kcmatt7 I know. I always go into football season with too high hopes. One of these days they will meet/exceed expectations.
-
@Kcmatt7, I’m too negative. Ima make a New Year’s resolution to be better.
Thinking about it a bit, last year’s 9 - 4 team way exceeded my expectations!
-
Interesting to note why it was important to keep JD6.
Tulane’s QB who is a true sophomore is rumored to have a $4M/yr deal to go play at Duke for the next two seasons. You DO NOT want to need a portal QB. Tulane QB is a total stud but that is a steep price.

Exactly. There was a large contingent of KU fans that wanted to move on from JD6. That would have been a true FAFO moment as KU would not be very good at all without him next year. They just cant not realistically compete in the NIL market for true P4 starting caliber QB’s.
-
If Isaiah Marshall is good then that won’t be a problem
-
He can still be good, but he is not ready to start next year.
-
@Woodrow in your opinion…

The QB market in the portal is INSANE.

They continue to cook. Another OL addition with multiple years to play.
Staff has been intentional in adding guys with 3 years remaining on the OL. They know we need to turn the page after this season and are doing their best to be ready for that reality.
-
KC, On paper at least do you think this team is better than last year’s team?
-
@Woodrow that Marshall isn’t ready to start.

Will be tough to replace Cobee, Melo, Neal and the WRs….
But I think we upgraded at TE & LB.
Ultimately, we are probably slightly worse on paper. That’s quite a bit of NFL-caliber talent lost. But there is so many unanswered questions they could just as easily be better.
I would just say that it is my firm belief if we just promoted Z and we have JD6 practice over the summer this team would have won 8+ games last season.
I would put next season’s W/L line at 7.5 probably.
-
@nuleafjhawk obviously it is the coaches opinion that watch him practice everyday.
-
I think the fanbase is really sleeping on Ballard…
-
@Kcmatt7 I don’t think Ballard is too bad watching him play as a freshman against KSU last season. If Rich Miller doesn’t drop a walk in pick 6, he’s in Jayhawk folklore
